AirPort Express Base Station with 802.11n and AirTunes
Quick fix
Written by RB from Cranbrook
Dec 10, 2009
This does exactly what it says with no trouble what so ever - real plug and play. I bought it extend my wireless network and hook my ethernet printer up to. Had had huge connectivity problems with another wireless bridge and this has just nailed it on a BT HH wireless network.

Music from my Mac to my HiFi
Written by MH from solihull
Nov 27, 2009
I think this cost me £70 and for that I am able to play all of my music on my HiFi system. I have heard stories about setting up but for me it was intuitive and fairly easy. I plugged it in and attached it to the network and plugged into amplifier and hey presto - within about 10 Minutes I was streaming music. I have saved so much storage space with puttting away CD's and can now mix and create playlists. All in all I listen to much more music than i did before because its so much easier and thats what its about isnt it? listening to the music. had no problems with delay and would thoroughly recommend. Only thing i want to do now is work out if i can sore music on external HD and still play.

Amazing!

When I initially bought this I had some problems getting it to work with my BT Homehub 2.0. Then I found this help page: [search discussions. apple . com for thread 8702354] - Sorry can't publish URLs. I have since had nothing but the sweet tunes coming from my Bose Speaker Dock - it works seamlessly now, no interruptions to the stream.
Really handy if you want to move your tunes around for a house party - use it with the Remote App on an Ipod Touch/ IPhone and you're set!9 of 9 people found this useful

It works.
Written by KG from BARNSLEY

I bought the Airport Express (AX) along with an Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS). Plugged in set and working in around thirty minutes. I get occasional drop outs on the AX but I use it for hours each day for music without any hassle at all. The manual cautions against using either unit close to other cable runs and cordless phones. In this day and age this amounts to being asked to drive a car but avoid tarmac. Each individual set up will vary so much that one star reviews saying AX doesn't work should be viewed with caution. I live in a fairly regular house with the usual amount of cables, phones and external interference (eight other networks show on Airport next to mine) and would buy the two units again without hesitation. BTW, the music sounds way better via AX than it ever did plugged in directly by cable from iPod to the same hifi.

Superb Product

I bought this because my Imac 24" wouldn't connect to my wifi router - mainly because of weak signal strength. The airport express is located 4 feet away from the Imac and is connecting 100% of the time. It is so reliable I have just installed a 10/100 hub connected to the LAN port, which now connects the Imac and 2 pc's - loving it.

Be wary, serious AirTunes fault.
Written by BT from Plymouth

I adore apple products because they're easy to set up and use. This device should be no different. I have two 'Airport Express Base Stations', one in my lounge connecting to my modem using the Ethernet port, the other is upstairs connecting a games console to the network allowing it to go online, again via Ethernet port. Furthermore, laptops (apple and windows-based) and a PC connect to this network wirelessly and both 'Base Stations' are also connected to hi-fi's in each room to take advantage of AirTunes.
Once set-up, i have had no issues with the wireless networking (main) aspect of the Apple Express. However, the AirTunes is completely unusable, songs regularly stutter or drop out for 20-30 seconds at a time, making it a complete waste of time.
If you need a reliable wireless network, get this. If you want to use the AirTunes feature now, or at any point in the future, forget about it.15 of 21 people found this useful

Most unreliable product I've owned
Written by NO from Manchester
Nov 10, 2009
As others have pointed out, when it works it's a dream; especially when used with Apple Remote. The problem is that ever since I've owned it, it doesn't work properly several times a week and now is not working at all, as many others have experienced after owning it for a year or so. Either my MBP will not recognise it in a scan (despite the base station being feet away with a green light) or when Itunes does recognise it it won't play and I get that error 15006 message.
I think it's an indictment that so many of the reviews point to the same problem yet what looks like a newer version has come out and still people are reporting similar problems. A blot on an otherwise blissful Apple experience for me, in general.18 of 25 people found this useful

Pretty good but could do so much more...
Written by RP from South Woodford

This is a very handy piece of kit for doing a few basic tasks. I use it on my existing network to allow me to play itunes music through my hifi. Combined with the free Iphone Remote app, its pretty good at what it does and amazingly easy to set up.
I have one gripe though... why doesn't it support the addition of a wired (USB or otherwise) hard drive? I refuse to spend £300 on a time capsule - its a rip off. Perhaps this is the reason or am I just being cynical?16 of 21 people found this useful

Not so sure about this
Written by SD from London
Oct 21, 2009
When I first bought the Airport Express I was more than happy with it. I loved being able to play my music where ever and wire free. However, a few months down the line and it stopped working. The music would cut out, iTunes would report that "The base-station is dead, blah, blah, blah" and would then not be able to reconnect. It works for about a day after a factory reset and then just stops working again. I've tried updating the firmware, turning it off and on again but to no avail. Apple have been unable to help me resolve the issues and it's now too late to return the product. Has potential to be a 5* product but for above reasons I am hesitant to buy another.

Such a brilliant idea. Great for party's. Can now have songs playing throughout the flat through different speakers in different rooms. I can even choose songs through my ipod touch. Its also great for boosting our wireless signal and great for wireless printing. Ive also connected our xbox to the ethernet port in the base station so we can now run xbox live. Its easy to set up too. Buy it! Buy it! Buy it!

Excellent WiFi solution
Written by MF from København K

The Airport Express works flawlessly! The connection reaches every corner of my 80m2 apartment without loss of connectivity. I have it set up with a MacBook Pro, a PC, an iPod Touch an Xbox 360 AND two printers (one wirelessly on the network and one through the Airport Express itself via the USB) and I haven't met any problems whatsoever so far. Software's excellent too. Highly recommendable - since you also get value for money with internal antennas, 802.11n, AirTunes and great design! A fifth star would have required a lower price or perhaps the ability to connect to other things (TV, hard drives etc.).

Airport Express Disaster
Written by CW from Wargrave
Oct 14, 2009
Just bought Airport Express today to stream i-tunes from my PC. I have spent over 4 hours trying to get it to connect wirelessly, but it just won't get recocgnised on my home network. It is fine with an ethernet connection, but the whole point of buying it is for wireless. I fear this product will be binned, as Apple will no doubt refuse a re-fund. I am a reasonablY competent techno guy having set up small server based office networks, but this has stumped me. Suggest any PC users avoid this like the plague. I'll just have to wait until Apple allow people to stream through PS3's - that was dead easy to set up and streams photo's etc really well. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

UNRELIABLE
Written by GE from TENBY

After two days of trying to get it to work and a revisit to the store I find this to be the most temperamental and unreliable products ever produced by Apple. Each reset and setup fails to deliver connectivity. I would not recommend this to anyone on any account. I will be returning it for a refund but am tempted to throw it out of my bedroom window as I write.

Take it from an expert...

The AirPort Expresses are the best wireless extenders on the market.
Whilst not cheap, they're certainly the easiest.
Even someone with very little technical knowledge can configure them as wireless extenders. And, unlike a lot of wireless extenders that use WDS, you can chain more than three together. Great if you have thick walls or live in a large house.
They have the added benefit of AirTunes and printer sharing (although no compatibility with the scanner part of All-in-Ones, probably due to driver issues).
They do offer some prosumer and professional options, such as RADIUS support, but they don't offer as many features as some of the cheaper routers out there. This being said, many of the Linksys units, once the best in this area, are very buggy.
The Expresses are also very reliable and take well to being unplugged and moved about, compensating and reconnecting automatically.
Range leaves a little to be desired but not awful.
A web interface would be nice too, especially to configure over the web (you have to use AirPort Utility for this).
Beware: If you need to connect more than 10 wireless devices at once, you'll need the AirPort Extreme.
If you're fed up with wireless dropouts, fiddly networks or you want something simple that you can plug in and forget about go out and get one of these!10 of 10 people found this useful
