Good headphones but ....
Written by TS from København N

The silicone-tips tend to fall of after a while, and aperently it is not possible to by ekstras in the appleshop - the same goes for the mesh caps, when you have used the to replacements that came with the headphones, then what?
I have had mine for about 4 months now, and tips are very loose and sooner or later the get lost, and I have just put the second mesh cap on!Was this useful?

Cable Noise!
Written by SS from London
Dec 12, 2009
Impossible to use when walking, the noise from the cables overwhelms everything else. Had an older set that worked great but I managed to destroy them so replaced like for like. Bad idea. They are comfortable in the ear (unlike the Apple standard set that was designed by giants) but that doesn't really matter when you can't hear your content.

Apple in ear terrible
Written by AM from Glasgow
Dec 11, 2009
I don't know where the good reviews come from. I'm comparing these to free headphones that came with the iPhone. The normal ones have good bass & sound. These in ears, comparing them, have no bass and terrible sound. You need to turn the volume right up to get any decent sound or any bass at all. Any £15 decent branded in-ear pair would annihilate these terrible headphones.
2 stars because they do drown out outside sound, they're good at that. But why if you still need to turn them right up to try and hear anything? Shame as I really love the remote & mic. If you're just looking for in-ear headphones and don't care about the mic: Don't buy these!2 of 4 people found this useful

I'D AVOID THESE
Written by KB from Rugeley
Dec 11, 2009
I bought some of these three months ago. Here are four reasons why I recommend you should avoid them.
(i) Some of the reviewers mention that the earbuds didn't fit them. Before buying them I asked the Apple Store staff what happens if they don't fit. They told me it was a risk I had to take, and that they wouldn't accept them back, even if I tried them on whilst still in the store. Fortunately for me, the smallest earbuds were just about small enough. (It turns out I have narrow ear canals, which was news to me.)
(ii) The sound isn't great. Don't get me wrong, it's _much_ better than the standard iPhone headphones, largely because of the fact that they have such good contact, but I was surprised that there wasn't more bass. Before buying them, I read reviews that said the same, but I suspected the reviewers were audio connoisseurs who were deliberating over things that were barely discernible. If you're the kind of person who notices the difference between good audio and bad audio (my Mum wouldn't, for example), then you'll probably feel the same.
(iii) They're less robust that all the other iPhone/iPod headphones I've had. The bottom-most rubber parts on both sides have both detached and now slide up and down the leads.
(iv) The earbuds slide off ridiculously easily. I lose one about once a week, and have to go searching for it. (Sometimes, it's still in my ear.) I've had to crawl around pub floors, shop floors, take my clothes off (not in public), etc. Apple don't provide replacements, which is outrageous! Fortunately, I've just discovered that you can buy replacements elsewhere: try searching Google or eBay for something like "replacement tips/earbuds small for apple headphones". Until I discovered these resellers, I was furious at Apple, and was going to give the headphones a one-star review.
You can go running with them. Yes, the headphone cable makes a lot of noise with each step—because it transmits the vibrations directly to your ears—but I thread them under the sleeve of my running vest, or wrap them around the back of my neck, and that makes them acceptable.7 of 8 people found this useful

Great headphones on the 3GS
Written by GG from Edinburgh
Dec 7, 2009
All the features work (including the volume) on the 3GS. The sound is crystal clear. At first I thought they sounded way too trebley. Change the ear covers for the large size and made sure they were in the ear fully and they sound great. A slight increase in bass would give them 5 stars, but I am more than happy listening to electronic/drum n bass and other dance genres with them.

Complete waste...very very poor
Written by JK from Salisbury

I bought these today (6th December 2009) to go with my recently purchased iPhone. If you are seeking to use these for anything other than phone calls then you not going to be very happy as they sounds very tin. Not worth £59. A very weak product that knocks a bit of the shine of the Apple brand.

No Thanks
Written by JR from Towcester
Dec 1, 2009
I was so disappointed when I tried my new headphones. I'd looked into the different models available and decided to go with the Apple originals rather than any other manufacturer. But, I'm taking them back tomorrow. The sound quality is rubbish, they keep falling out of my ears, the right one keeps crackling - horrid. I got out my old headphones that I got with my Ipod mini many years ago and these are 1000 times better. I'd rather stick with them and lose the remote functions than put up with these. I can only assume Apple outsourced the fabrication of these.

A big let down!
Written by JN from Watford
Nov 27, 2009
I do not claim to be any kind of audiophile when it comes to listening to music but I find it utterly frustrating when that music has 'No Rhythym!'
My original Apple iPhone earphones stopped working so I needed to buy a new pair. I spent some serious time researching all the options that are available to the iPhone taking into consideration those that have the inline mic/remote facility to find a new pair. There are so many options that it became a bit of a mission. I finally plumped for these!
Bad idea!
These earphones have the typical beautiful Apple styling, however the sound reproduction is awful, and I am not exaggerating! The bass is totally non-existent! The treble over powers everything so much so that its unbearable to listen to music with these earphones! I was so disappointed with them I took them back to the store the following day after trying different equalizer settings on my phone as well as different types of music to hopefully get some kind of 'decent' sound out of them!
I do find it very strange that there are so many positive reviews on this item considering the terrible sound they produce. Maybe I had a dud pair!
So as you may realise, I am still looking for a decent replacement pair of headphones!6 of 7 people found this useful

Disappointing
Written by DG from Cardiff
Nov 26, 2009
Sound clarity is good, but as many other reviewers have said, these are low on bass. Even with EQ set to bass booster they are worse than my (much cheaper) sennheisers with EQ switched off. Not everyone is into bass however.
My main issues with these are:
1) No volume control for iPhone 3G, even though the 3G was the current iPhone model when these headphones were released. This could easily be cured by a software update.
2) Poor quality construction. Everything feels very flimsy. The mesh cap unscrewed itself on mine and fell out, which in turn caused an ear bud to come loose and fall off. You get a spare set of mesh caps, but the ear bud is lost and there is no way of getting a replacement. The other sizes in the box are no use to me so now my very expensive headphones are useless.
Frankly not got enough for £59.4 of 4 people found this useful

Good but not the best...
Written by JH from Købenahvn, Frederiksberg

You know that the sound is brilliant and good isolation for sound out comming.
But the "silicone" things that you put on the top of them, you know, they can fall off very easy, and here comes the problem: YOU CAN'T BUY NEW OF THEM!
It's very bad of Apple to not sell them separately if you loose them, and if you need to clean them, you've got a problem :-(
But worth to buy if you can keep those white things on :-)7 of 8 people found this useful

very good set
Written by PV from London
Nov 13, 2009
Don't be put off by comments about bass frequencies. it's not true, it's just the fact that the most of the people are used to cheap headphones which as we all know have beefed up bottom and bit on top. In-ears on the other hand are quite flat with very sweet mids and highs.
In fact, bass goes very deep, deeper than on Senn's MM50ip, is very accurate and detailed so if your recording has huge amount of bass frequencies in it, in-ears will reproduce them, if they're not there they simply won't 'add' them as cheaper alternatives do (and not only cheaper alternatives but quite a few of more expensive ones).
Will see how they perform after few weeks, after they burn-in. So far i'm quite impressed, didn't expect them to be as good.19 of 22 people found this useful

I'd like to say it's good but...
Written by TB from Brentford
Nov 11, 2009
These are amazing headphones, the sound works great and feel so comfortable in the ears!
But that's when they're working.
The plug is easy to break, the ear tips can easily come off when pulling the headphones out of a tight pocket.
My headphones are now basically useless, without these flaws mentioned, these would be fantastic headphones. Mine only lasted about 1 month.12 of 15 people found this useful

Be Worldy but Enjoy the Music!
Written by JM from Cardiff
Nov 2, 2009
This amazing pair of headphones really excell in most catagories. Of course music fanatics will look down on owners of these and scoff with Shure headphones costing at least 300 times the price.
Shop around and if possible actually listen to them before you buy!
I got an amazing deal, way below the average RRP so maybe this sweetened the deal but even at full RRP I wouldn't have been disappointed.
So then, its time you dumped those old, original iPod headphones and got some thing well made, beautifully designed and most importantly something that will make your music sound great!
I have no idea what high ends and low ends are and what to look for and I don't really care, all I know is that these are leaps and bounds over anything I have ever owned.6 of 7 people found this useful

Great sound but earphones frequently fall out.
Written by AW from East Looe

These earphones deliver very good sound quality, far superior to that of the original earbuds, however this is compromised by the fact that they slip out of my ear nomatter which size silicone pieces I have attached. These are great as long as you're willing to push them back in every 10 seconds!

Mic section snags
Written by PC from Maidenhead
Oct 27, 2009
I want a good set of in ear headphones and would go for these but for one thing. If you are a guy and wear shirts sometimes then the problem is that the sharp, square edges of the mic section on the right ear lead are at exactly the right level to snag on your shirt collar. I am so fed up with the right ear lead being ripped out every time I raise or turn my head.
Why can Apple smooth these sharp edges off so they just 'ride' over any item of clothing at neck height.9 of 12 people found this useful

Good pair of cans for the money
Written by GK from Granville
Oct 22, 2009
The headphones are very well balanced. They seems to have nice drivers and at no point to you feel like you are pushing them to their limit. However there is that Apple sound to them. The bass is under stated and is nowhere near the level of FSI ( arguably one of the best ). If you want to listen to bass rich music make sure that you use the bass boost EQ setting. It helps a lot. Actually one thing that I noticed with these headphones is that unlike more expensive ones, these respond very well to EQ settings on the iPhones and iPod. Flat really sounds flat and you don't really want that for most types of music. I guess the bottom line is these are probably not the best headphones for hip-hop and electronic music.
However, mids and highs are near perfect and I have never head headphones in that price range sounding so good.
One big negative is that Apple still does not sell replacement silicone jackets and you will need some sooner or later.8 of 9 people found this useful
