Rechargeable Battery - 13-inch MacBook (White)
equally unhappy
Written by AE from London
Jun 1, 2007
my macbook is just over a year old. i calibrated it regularly as this is my first laptop and i am very precious about it. it has now decided there is no battery in there and has gone completely dead. not reduced capacity, but refuses to see that there is one present. £100 pounds for a new battery to replace one i didn't break is completely unfair and unreasonable. it is a hardware fault not bad maintenance that caused it.
i'm a student and will not be able to replace this for some time. very unimpressed.570 of 729 people found this useful

Battery failed 18 months old - not up to Apple standards
Written by AP from SWANSEA

I don't think I should be replacing this battery at only 18 months old for £99 - this isn't good quality/value but the Apple helpline says it is within their acceptable standards. Disappointed. I'm usually a great Apple fan.

Like others, the battery in my wife's MacBook went, system profiler said that it was unrecognized. Spoke to the nice people at Apple and although the MacBook was out of warranty by over a year they sent a replacement battery for free. Nice service from Apple!

Battery down
Written by CC from SNEKKERSTEN

My battery just gave up the other day. A quick search on the web revealed several instances, showing both the symptoms, the timing and cycle count within Apples extended warranty (search: macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/). According to Apple the Macbook I own, is outside the serial numbers affected.....
Less than two years of performance is not impressive.45 of 50 people found this useful

It does last, just take care of it!!
Written by AK from LONDON

Like with any battery, proper usage should involve a full drain and full charge. I can reach 114% of the original capacity on mine after 4 months with over 160 charge cycles and 10Hrs + usage per day. Download Coconut battery (battery mointor program) and also learn how to calibrate the battery, and it will last. Remember that even when the battery shuts the machne down on 0%; there is enough juice to keep the work your doing on 'pause' in sleep mode for over an hour so you don't have to panic to charge it at 4 or 2%.
My only complaint is that 5200mAh capacity isn't fair for the battery's size and price, as this averages 4 hours on an older Core Duo. (But four end to end standard psp batteries, taking up less area, would give you 7200mAh- or 1hour1/2 more life) meaning that theorically there can be much room for capacity improvement.161 of 284 people found this useful

Rechargeable Battery - 13-inch MacBook (White)
Worst product you could imagine
Written by SJ from Haderslev

I've had my MacBook for 3 years now and this is my third battery. The two first batteries was replaced under the warranty. Please note that I'm not allowed to comment on Apple's Customer service in this regard.
Now there's a problem with the battery again and I'm therefore forced to purchase a new one. It seems as if Apple has great problems with their batteries in general. This is the third time I've experienced that my MacBook is not able to recognize the battery. There's an black X under battery status.
Try and Google: "MacBook" "X" "battery" and "problems" and you'll realize that this is a wide-spread issue.
Sometimes the problem can be solved through software updates etc., however that has not been my case.

Apple Battery Racket
Written by GS from Dartry
Jan 7, 2009
Bought a new macbook from apple March 2007. In Dec 2008 the battery was not recognised even though the cycle count was less than 300. As I was out of warranty and the battery was not included in a certain batch, they would not replace it.
It's a corrupt little business apple have going where they can charge people another 130Euro because Apple themselves supplied useless batteries.
Have a lot of Apple products but I'm gonna steer clear in the future. 1-star for this and if they don't sort it out soon they will lose a lot of their valued customers.45 of 54 people found this useful

Rubbish short life batteries
Written by KG from London

Same for me as for everyone else. I have had my Macbook for about 15 months. I use it for home use only - about 3 times a week, maybe only an hour each time. And now the battery is dead, it has a red X in the battery symbol so now i have to keep it plugged int he whole time to make it work. I am not paying £100 for a battery when i spent over £700 on the laptop just over a year ago. Am i meant to spend £100 every year on a new battery?

Woefully unsatisfactory
Written by CC from london

Mine started not charging after about only 12 months, nowadays I have to have it plugged in all the time. Someone said it's not up to Apple standards, but in my opinion the only thing that has ever been up to Apple standards is the OS, this is nothing more than I would expect from Apple hardware. Now it looks like it's going to cost me £100 for a new battery every 12 months.
Exceedingly disappointed.

The MacBook is a grate product, the battery is not

In 18 months 2 MacBook batteries have stopped working, they went from working fine to the Mac not recognising. As this had not failed due to normal use and was the second time you would think Apple would replace it. However, they would not, so after having no battery for nearly a year I am about to buy a 3rd party one for £30 instead of the near £100 Apple want. I am also willing to bet it will last just as long if not longer.

Very Poor
Written by AM from London

Have had my laptop about 18 months now and gradually it started not charging randomly, then sometimes I'd had to have it plugged in to use, then sometimes I'd fully charge it and it would die as soon as I unplugged it, then it just stopped charging. £97!? If you are forced to buy this item, do so elsewhere.

A let down for Apple
Written by ED
Oct 11, 2008
this battery is a complete let down. within 18 months it becomes faulty. £99 is too much for a battery that only lasted that long. If you don't have a battery that works then you have to have the macbook plugged in at all times. Because of the animals in my home, they are constantly knocking the magnetic charger out and i have to restart the computer every time. This is not up to apple's quality and should be improved. I was very displeased with the product.

It is NOT about taking care... -- controller failure
Written by SO from London

Mine went DEAD after ~6 months. We are NOT talking about reduced capacity here. The on-board control ciruitry went, the battery is no longer recognised by the MacBook. MacOS says "no battery found". A mains power interruption of just one second will kill the MacBook. Not happy, me.

very poor

The battery had to be changed in my laptop 3 times during its first year, now it's no longer under warranty i am having to chnage it a 4th time and cannot believe it is £100. This is shameful and has completely lowered my opinion of apple. The battery prices should not be this much especially knowing how poor the batteries are. I have 3 macs, 2 desktops in my home and shop and a laptop but i don't think i will be bothering to buy them anymore after this, poor show

How I got a replacement battery free from ...
Written by KS from London
Jul 18, 2007
I've had the same problem as everyone here. I bought my MacBook on 7th July 2007, so its not old at all & yet when I tried to run it off the battery it would shut down immediately. It would switch off as soon as the power cord was removed. I phoned apple & told them about the problem. They said i needed a battery update. What a load of rubbish because it didn't work. Then they said i needed a software update, also a load of rubbish. I phoned them again & told them nothing was working & I was extremely dis-satisfied that I was sold a faulty battery. I was then told to go to an official apple store where I could replace my current faulty battery for a brand new one. If you have a faulty battery, I would suggest you get onto apple & demand a new one as it is totally unacceptable to make & sell faulty products to the public

Terrible. But What Can You Do?
Written by CD from Lowestoft
Sep 22, 2008
I bought a MacBook on their first release. There were reports of battery failure and eventually, mine died too. I thought this wouldn't be a problem as Apple would replace a faulty battery as it had been admitted that it was their fault. But no. My MacBook was just over a year old. Not covered. I didn't buy another one as I didn't want to give Apple anymore money (£100 being alot of money to me). But now a year later my patience has run out... Because of the magnetic charger, whenever the table is knocked by computer cuts out. Which has proved to damage my Macs health, quite a lot. I'm now off to part with £99 to stop it completely dying. So, thanks for ruining my Mac with your faulty, expensive batteries.

Absolutely appalling.
Written by TT from Nottingham

I do NOT expect to pay over £1000 for a MacBook whose battery and fan dies less than 18 months after purchase.
Now I have a MacBook which turns itself off after overheating, which is approximately TWENTY MINUTES after turning it on, plugged in. That's if it is allowed to cool, otherwise it will switch off in under three minutes.

Not Happy
Written by JW from Bideford

Using my laptop on the sofa as usual and suddenly it switches off! Now i can only use the laptop with the power-cord. If i wanted a freaking desktop i would have got one!!! I did my research on the web and found that this problem is very common in macbooks. The battery is fully charged yet the macbook doesn't seem to think so and i've only had the mac for 20 months - no problems with the battery until yesterday. Now i got to fork out £100 for a new one.
Sort it out apple! Or maybe put this major flaw in one of your sparkly adverts next time!22 of 26 people found this useful
