Exellent Battery, but take care of it.

    • Written by from London

With over 700 cycles in the last 12 month my battery is still charging up to an average of 5320mAh, 5% over its original capacity of 5020mAh. The secret? Calibration every couple of weeks where you let it drain to zero, leave it for a few hours and charge it to full again... The instructions recommend a full charge before you start using it... if you don't do that, you can't expect it to last.
It makes me sad when somebody tells me their battery died.. it's such a waste.

    Mixed Feelings

    • Written by from Hawick

I seem to be lucky given that my Macbook battery has lasted for just over two years. One day without warning the 'x' appeared and that was the battery broken.

I'm not really upset about the battery dying after two years most laptop batteries have run their course after two years but why is it that apple think they can charge £99 for a new one.

If this product is so fantastic apple, then offer a warranty that reflects the price a year is a joke and why should I pay almost £200 to get this extended to three years.

    Good Service, but why

    • Written by from West Dumbartonshire

The battery on my MacBook would also not hold a charge. Went to Scotsys in Glasgow, who told me that it was out of warranty by three months and would not do anything for me, even when I informed them that they had repaired the machine twice unsatisfactory and that I was without the machine for over a month!

Went to the Genius bar in Glasgow and told them the problems I have had and the battery life problems and they replaced it for free, good service!!

Was also told by the Genius, that Scotsys had not entered my serial number on the new logic board they fitted. Why are these people allowed to represent Apple.

Good choice - you will definetely need a new battery

    • Written by from Helsinki

I myself used over 100 euros for new power adapter as the old one quit working. Now, one month later, my macbook won't recognise the battery any longer. Although many people have had the same problem I was informed that Apple won't replace the defective battery. I would understand that the battery lost its ability to keep the charge over time, but the total failure to recognise the battery is something I consider defective product that should be replace regardless of the expired warranty.

I got this laptop 2 years ago, and my battery is really, really terrible. Now it doesn't even work and I have to have it plugged in. Apple is capable of a lot better, pick it up!

    Battery is rubbish

    • Written by from Surbiton

I love my MacBook, but the battery is shockingly bad and expensive.

I've looked after my MacBook, and done what I can to preserve the battery, so was disappointed when it stopped working.

My battery suddenly died on me and stopped charging, so I'm now having to painfully shell out and get a new one.

I was told by mac care that the battery for the old 13 inch MacBook (in which they enjoyed telling me was out of warranty) is only meant to last 300 charge cycles which is nothing and that because technology has moved on and that new devices can expect longer. If technology has moved on, the surely Apple can improve the life cycle of batteries for older devices.

My boyfriend had an a G4 book and the battery on that lasted much much longer and many many years than this battery. When it came to replacing it, his reason was not because the battery had died.

Please Apple sort this out otherwise a lot of loyal customers are going to look for cheaper options when it comes to consumables.

I have had my MacBook for about 18 months and the battery has completely died.. I habe have a Dell PC for 3 years and have had no problem with battery life.

This is not good enough Apple, especially when you are asking an extortionate amount of money..

    A very unhappy Apple user..

    more battery problems

    • Written by

I bought my mac 2 years ago and in that time ive had to send it away to be ficed 4 times. The first two instances a faulty battery (only 6 months after purchasing the mac) and a faulty CD drive were covered by warrenty, the third instance where my hard drive blew and i lost everything saved on my mac was covered by my apple care plan. Last week my battery went again and ive been told that not only is it out of warrenty but batteries are also not covered in the apple care plan. My sister purchased her mac the same day as me and had had similar problems. I am a very unhappy contumer and would not recommend mac products. Macbooks are prices a lot higher than other laptops but do not offer a better preformance in return.

    "Unbreakable" - Rubish

    • Written by

I got very confused when my battery failed me. I just could not believe it! Less than 2 years?!! The reason I bought this laptop in the first place was its supposed "unbreakable" nature...

    Man, am I disappointed...

I bought my MacBook about two years ago and since 2 months my battery is gone. Genius people in Apple Store told me that I have to pay £99 for a new one. Isn't it stupid? I bought APPLE notebook. I paid premium price for QUALITY!!
    I'm very disappointed with that.

Like two other reviewers, I have a dead battery after only about 18 months. Very disappointing indeed and, frankly, not up to acceptable standards.

Would it be that difficult to design a new battery?

    • Written by from BLACKROCK

My second battery has failed after 2 months. Apple store have covered this battery under the battery's warranty although the laptop isn't under warranty. Their warranty service is excellent sending out a replacement battery prior to receiving my dead battery. However the mind does boggle how 3 years on this hardware flaw hasn't been sorted out.

    Third battery in 14 months

    • Written by from Milton Keynes

This is the second time my battery has failed in 14 months, the last time replaced was 5 months ago. Unfortunately now out of warranty I have to purchase a new one, but what choice do I have? Not impressed, this is my first mac and I was expecting much better quality.

    Still pleased

    • Written by from Fordingbridge

I'm just about to purchase my second replacement batter for my 13-inc MacBook, bought in 2006. Each battery has lasted roughly three years and this latest one has gone through over 360 cycles (I'm told that 300 is about the average).
Having inherited work laptops whose batteries only held about 20 minutes charge after being left running off the mains continuously, I've always taken care to charge and run down my battery, allowing it to completely run down until it powers off at least once a month.
If you look after these batteries, they will give you a good long life. I've recently been given the tip of removing the battery when you can run the laptop off the mains and I will be making use of that to further the length of time between replacements, if not increase the number of cycles, and save battery use for when I don't have access to a power source.

    Can't complain about performance

    • Written by from Biggleswade

I have had my macbook for 3.5 years now, battery used to last nearly 4hours now it barely lasts 2...hasn't done too bad, but I have looked after it well. The price for a new one is far too high, I don't mind paying a little extra for Apple product but when it is £30 from a third party you wouldn't expect apple to sell for more than £60!

If you have the money buy the apple product...but I wont be this time

    Very disillusioned with Apple

    • Written by from Cork

I bought my macbook at the end of November and can relate to the alarming number of people who are peed off that the battery on the mac is all of a sudden no longer recognised, I saved long and hard to buy my mac as I am a student and now I am looking at having to pay out another 134 to buy a new battery. The quick release AC is great generally but not when you can only use your mac through the mains and any movement shuts down your computer.......very very angry

2 batteries failed, woeful Apple response

    • Written by from East Kilbride

I bought 2 MacBooks for my 2 kids (stops any fighting over homework etc).. We went on hols and when we came back, BOTH batteries refused to be recharged. On screen message on both said that the batteries were not recognised.
Apple store support said as they were past 300 cylces (one was 301) this was to be expected and that was it.. I am deeply suspicious of both batteries failing at EXACTLY the same time.. and not happy and having to spend £198 for replacements..

    Really Good

    • Written by from bristol

    My battery just died :-(

But it's 3+ years old and had 892 cycles on it. I used it 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, for over 3 years and it died with a 77% life.

Battery are random, some are good, some are bad. But the one I'm replacing was a good one. Hopefully the new one will be just as good.
