Nice idea...
Written by SM from Henlow

But why spend £35 on something that nearly all other music devices on the market already have built in, and which seem to work a lot better!
Concentrate more on better battery life (user changeable batts would be nice) or build in radio to the pod itself. Pointless having this when you need to get the pod out to see the screen anyway, you may as well just build it in.
Nice idea, but still miles away from a perfect pod apple!26 of 30 people found this useful

Apple iPod Radio Remote
Better than I expected
Written by AB from Keighley

Once I got through the childproof packaging... I was very impressed. It's even smaller than it looks, and of course impossibly perfect and beautiful, with a little aluminium sprung plate on the back to clip it to your jacket or whatever.
As another reviewer mentioned, the first thing to do is go into your iPod's settings and make sure the radio region is set right. USA was the default on mine.
The new display it brings up on the screen is very cool, especially the red needle that you move by 'winding' the click wheel around.
But actually, you won't do that much. Press and hold on the left or right arrow and it jumps to the next strong station. To make it a preset, hold the centre button down for a couple of seconds. Once you've set presets, you can flick between them with the left and right arrows and it does it instantly. I had all my stations set up in less than a minute. Dead easy.
I'd forgotten this thing has RDS too, so you get scrolling text info about the station you're on. But this only comes in if reception is excellent. I found it didn't work sometimes, even when reception seemed pretty good.
Luckily, reception is a strong point because there's no way to select mono to kill the hiss. That would have been a good additional feature.
That, the additional drain it puts on your battery, and the inevitable extra cabling are the negatives. Everything else is positive and it really is good value. Apple Store delivered next day too, so bravo!15 of 17 people found this useful

A fm Radio With Signals 10,00 ft High!
Written by CE from peacehaven
Apr 12, 2006
This is a great iPod product and definitely a must have, why? well you get great reception on it and its really handy when you want to skip a song at the click of a button, not having pulled the iPod out of your pocket first. the only con is though that if you have it plugged into your iPod you cant really have you iPod off or on sleep because it just turns the iPod back on again, so basically you have you unplug it when you put your ipod on sleep.
oh and by the way heres an example of how good the reception I got (100% true by the way):
I bought this product in Hawaii (Maui) And the day I got it we were taking a drive up haleakala (A Dead Volcano) and when we reached the top which by the way is 10,000 ft high I still got 4 signals of radio on this with clear sound and its just an fm radio!
it also doesn't require batteries or to be charge, a must have, trust me! ^_^23 of 24 people found this useful

Apple iPod Radio Remote
VERY GOOD BUT A BIT EXPENSIVE !!!
Written by DS from Sheffield

This is very good if you want to use it as a radio and also very good if you want to use it as a remote as well, but make sure that you go to Settings > Radio Region and click the centre button until it says Europe because a lot of people have been complaining that the reception is not very good and thats probably why because mine works perfectly inside my house and outside too! The remote is very useful too. You can set your iPod with video or iPod Nano to hold mode and just use your remote to listen to whatever song or radio station you want (unfortunately you cant change between your music and the radio with the remote youll have to use the click wheel for that) without reaching for your pocket every time you want to change radio station or song. But despite all of this I think that £35 is a bit expensive about £20 would have been the right price. The product is worth 5 stars but the expensive price is the down side with the iPod Radio Remote.

Very Disappointed
Written by DJ from YORK

Too much cable, poor reception and only tunes to odd numbered frequencies - why? Cannot get Capital (95.8) when in London. I love my Nano but find the radio remote a VERY poor accessory. Would love to get some response here from Apple as several previous reviewers have made similar comments.

Pricy Junk
Written by DO from Ballincollig

I love Apple and its products, except this! Why? Simply because it does not work!
Over the years I've got used to Apple products being the best you can buy but this is just a piece of expensive junk and it actually hurts to have to say that about an Apple product. What were they thinking when the released it?16 of 24 people found this useful

Hmmm!
Written by AS from YORK

A good product but my mine gripe is the fact that when you turn off your ipod and you "lock" the ipod and / or the remote, the ipod will still turn on again when touched!!!
This obviously has battery life implications and is annoying - the only real solution is to remove the radio remote completely which has connector wear & tear issues if you do this a lot and, frankly, why should you!!!
I have tried this with my wifes nano (for whom it was a present!) and also my own nano - the problem still exists - does anyone else out there have this trouble???
On the plus side it does work well, reception is good and the analogue style "dial" is a nice touch
Could have done better guy's !!!7 of 8 people found this useful

BAD RECEPTION? CHANGE COUNTRY
Written by AA from LONDON
Apr 1, 2006
I read the reviews before trying this product myself. Unfortunately it lived up to its disappointments. The idea of a radio is great and it would have been nice to have this feature the day I opened my iPod box.
Despite my disappointment at the poor reception, I decided to stick with it. I could only pick up about four radio stations and the tuning could only scroll through odd numbers. For example you could get 99.9 FM and 100.1 FM but not 100.0 FM.
Playing with my iPod as I do, I noticed a new option under the settings menu, RADIO REGION. It was set on USA. I changed it to Europe and lost all my preset radio stations (only four). However, the reception improved dramatically. I was immediately able to pick up ten times more stations. I now have twenty presets. Much much better. And I can now manual tune to even numbers such as 100.0 FM
To all those people who returned this product... try it with the right country setting. It makes a world of difference!
I have now bought this product for two other members of my family. I give it four stars instead of five because Apple Europe need to put a BIG STICKER on the box that says SET RADIO REGION TO EUROPE. Without emphasising this crucial information many loyal iPod customers are suffering in silence... or in the white noise of poor reception. Also, it is a little over-priced. £21-£25 would have felt right.82 of 89 people found this useful

Remote/Radio for Ipod Video & Nano, it does work!
Written by DW from Reading
Mar 29, 2006
I read through all of the reviews and some were helpful some were the usual moaners who want everything perfect.
You won't always get perfect reception and for £35 you won't get DAB radio on it. Works excellent as a remote control if you are playing tunes in the car or on the train or bus and don't want to keep reaching for the ipod.
The Radio is fun, takes a bit of power but then lets be honest you want an ipod mainly for your digital music not radio, but it's great to have radio if you need it. It's nice and small and you get a pair of standard ipod ear phones for free which is great in case you mess up your original ones, ok if you have fancy sound isolating earphones then these are of no interest to you.
Like other people have said it's a another enhancement at a reasonable price, not cheap I agree but something most ipod owners could afford.
If you want a really fancy radio with amazing DAB type signal all the time then this might not be up to scratch for you but the average person this is great and well worth buying. As far as being a remote control is concerned 10/10.19 of 22 people found this useful

Firstly the radio remote is very poor value, £35.00 for a remote that has a crackly reception? if it was clear and un-interupted i would understand but it is overpriced. secondly as i said the reception is very poor even in urban areas. however it is very useful as a remote itself which is why it gained 3 stars. it is quite frustrating if you listen to something like radio 1 but if you only listen to local radio its fine.

Great item but.....
Written by BC from Hessle

When I upgraded from a 3rd gen iPod to the new video iPod I was extremley upset that my old remote wouldn't be compatible. I was given the new radio/remote as a birthday gift. The style of the remote is second to none and is unique, I've had so many comments on how good it looks. Works great as a remote, however like other peoples reviews the radio does have a problem with reception.
Good idea in theory but not as expected which is a shame.7 of 8 people found this useful

I bought this item as a birthday present for my dad (he has a nano), the delivery was next day (which compensated for the £4.00 postage cost). When it came to opening it on his birthday it would not work on his so I tried it on my 20gig photo ipod and it didnt work on that either.
I took it to the apple store and they tried it on theres it too did not work on theirs either.
Myself and the sales assistant then found out you have to have version 1.1 software on your ipod and when you get your ipod nano its 1.0- so it needs the free upgrade you get fron the apple website. We also found that it does not work on ipod 20gig photo it only works on the new video ones! whish they told you that on the description.
the price is a bit steep but once we got it working its absolutly fab and i highly reccommed it. just a shame like another reviewer said they dont do a D.A.B radio - but oh well cant have everything!!50 of 59 people found this useful

not good enough

couldnt wait to get hold of one of these after reading the first reviews...should have read the worse ones first, as it seems that apple only post the positive ones...why FM and not DAB i could have let them get away with that if the reception was good...er??? unable to listen to any stations for any reasonable time..say one song!! without the reception crackling in my ear forcing me to remove my headphones...i live in london, and the reception is terrible, not the outer reaches of cornwall or scotland where FM reception is poor due to hills, mountains, and freak weather conditions..i love my apple pc/ibook and most apple related products, and the build quality on this as with other apple related products is top notch, great interface for the radio using the click wheel as a tuning dial but this is a very poor attempt to cash in on somthing that should have been built into the ipod in the first place, i would have taken it back but i needed some new headphones in the first place, only two stars for the earphones themselves

Just received my radio remote..... what a fantastic accessory. Styled beautifully, the reception is excellent and its simple to use. Yeah the iPod could have come with a radio built in but then you wouldn't have the opportunity to go one better than other iPod lovers out there.

I have just bought this product yestarday on 18/3/06.I didnt think that the reception would be good but i thought wrong.I can pick up all my favourite stations. The signal is fantastic. The radio also picks up the names of who is presenting the show at that time and more imformation about the show.A DAB radio does this too.The product is brilliant and well done apple.

I do like the design of this item, but the reception is not that great, even in a big city - lots of static noise while about town.
Great as a remote control though.2 of 3 people found this useful
