an excelent product even if you're not going to use the fm radio

    Written by AE

    Jul 10, 2006

i read the reviews for this product and some of them were slightly worrying. but after i bought it, i loved it. i dont use it to listen to the radio as after awhile it wore off out of my system. i prefer to listen to the music i have on my laptop as it is more me. but this little gadget makes life a heck lot easier,, when walkin down the road to school instead of tryin to walk and changing song or volume on the ipod itself which can get distracting and hard with the odd touch wheel, i can have this hooked to my bag strap and the ipod in my pocket an just click either skip, back volume up or down, paus play etc, i know it sounds stupid but this little gadget make life alot easier to listen to your pod. i would recomend it to every ipod owner,, on older ipods it will only do control, you wont be able to listen to the radio but it is still worthit, you can then use it just to change songs an stuff, and when you finaly upgrade,, listen to radio aswell. GET IT!!!

Initial fan, long term loser - ardent Mac fan speaks out

    Written by PG from London

    Jul 9, 2006

Initially I loved this remote. It looks great, generating a lot of 'oh what's that' comments, however, this is the only Apple product I have disliked (and I've bought a lot! Hopelessly in love with my Intel iMac)

It has now fallen apart into two halves, clip and control. In central London high buildings and changes in relief of the land make the signal for the radio unreliable and scratchy and I never manged to get the GPS to work.

I haven't seen it said here yet but I'm convinced that it zaps the battery and I find that if you use the iPod without the remote you get at least 3 more hours battery time.

I wouldn't recommend this, maybe it could just do with a few more tweaks or even a lower price tag. Thanks Apple for - well - practically everything else though.

    Volume Too Low!!

    Written by BK from Ilford

    Jul 3, 2006

I love the design and the radio, but the remote dramatically reduces the volume on my ipod. If I am listening to music (not the radio), and pull the earphones out of the remote, and plug them in the earphone socket on the ipod, the volume increase is huge, which I find annoying. I just wish the volume was as good through the remote as it is through the standard headphone socket.

Not designed for every day use

    Written by WM from SOUTHAMPTON

I bought this product when it was released back in january and was initially impressed, clear sound good quality and nice to look at. However 6 months later i have encountered a few problems with the radio and with the headphones. I use my iPod for about 10 hours a day so it is safe to say that i have put this product through its paces.

The first problem i had was after about a month the clip came away from the body of the radio itself, not too happy with that but nothing a bit of superglue wouldn't fix.

The second problem was with the headphones, I thought i'd give the apple headphones a go after using my own ones since i purchased it and after about a week the left earphone packed up so i had to revert back to my old ones which was a bit of a shame as the apple ones look far nicer.

Finally... last week on my way home from work i was listening to the radio and it kept cutting out, the only way to get the radio back on was to switch it off and switch it back on again but this would only solve the problem for a few minutes and then would keep re-occuring. In the end i had to disconnect the radio and plug the headphones directly into the iPod itself.

I have now exchanged it for another one, Maybe it was just a one off but for £35 plus £5 postage I would expect a lot better quality for my money.

    Radio Star!

This radio remote is brilliant! One of the things that I previously missed on the ipod was not being able to listen to radio. The quality is great (for the main stations) and it works well on the move. A must have.

Forget all those who are saying that the sound isn't that good, i think it is fine and although the sound is not as good as plugging directly into the headphone socket, the difference is miniscule. As for reception, the national stations are perfectly clear and the local ones are as well as i can recieve with a stand alone radio. The only thing i would change is the size of the numbers compared with the space given for the text. Nitpicking

Finally, a remote/radio control headphones.A nice little clip-on to attact on your T-shirt/shirt/jacket. The volume and track is easy to control(while on the move). It hide your iPod from any preying eyes. Let's hope iPod will bring out built-in or DAB version in future.

Do people complaining about too much cable & poor reception realise, the cable is the antenna? All UK FM broadcast radio 87-108Mhz needs an aerial, wind up the cable and it hasn't got one.

This iPod radio is great. But at £35 a bit over priced. I would recommend getting it. The Sound Quality is better than i expected, The Remote is good because you can use it for changing songs not just for the radio and changing stations. The only down side of this radio remote is that you can't get in in black, just like my iPod

Works well, but falls apart easily...

    Written by JA from OXFORD

    May 25, 2006

I bought one of these as a gift for someone. Everything started off fine as the product worked really well. However, after a while it started to fall apart...first the clip on the back, then part of the control casing until it stopped working all together. (All within a short period of time, despite the fact it was looked after well, never dropped etc). I'm waiting for a reponse from Apple about whether or not I'll get a replacement or refund, but would hope so as the radio remote is expensive for what it is...
(Have given 3 stars despite this as product initially worked well and none of the other reviews seem to have had the same problem).

    Money for old rope

    Written by RD

    May 23, 2006

How many other people are annoyed that they've had to buy one of these just to have the functionality that came with previous iPods?

I previously owned a 3rd gen 40gig iPod which came with not only a plug AND a docking station, but also a remote.

I live in Brixton and work in central London. My lovely new video iPod wouldn't last 5 minutes if I had to get it out of my pocket on the bus every 5 minutes to change track.

This accessory is only partly useful. You still have to get your iPod out of your pocket to see what station you're tuned to. What is it with Apple and their refusal to put a display on anything?

Buy a Griffin iFM instead. Not as pretty, but cheaper, has a basic display, and you can change between tunes and radio WITHOUT having to take your precious pod out of your bag.

This is a great product, at £35 its a little expensive but worth it. The radio works great and I get a great signal, and its really handy to have the stylish remote. The signal quality is great especially as I live in a rural area where normally I get a very poor signal. 9/10, only problem is the price. Hopefully one day Apple will release a DAB/Digital Radio attachment.

Vey happy with it, but found that the sound quality isn't quite as good as plugging in your headphones to the socket on the ipod when listening to music on the player.

dont knock this product give it a chance....

Whist spending some time in the states I purchased one of these radio remotes. Getting back here in london I had thought of having a great regret buying this product ready to go to the mac store to complain on how it was very limited finding stations and only able to find odd numbered stations. So no capital no kiss fm. Until I worked out something very useful. Go to the settings when the radio is attached to ipod then go to Radio region. Change to prefered region to have a wider range of signal. Apple should really give more of a detailed intructions with this product. Cold be a bit cheaper but Its money worth spent.

    Not really happy!

    Written by SP from Ingatestone

    May 1, 2006

I bought this accesory because EVEYBODY told me how great it is. However, once I worked out to change the settings from USA to UK, I dissapointed at the reception. It's fine if you stand still but don't try and walk with it. Another major problem is the reception on the train, it's shocking. This defeats the major reason that I bought as wanted to listen to radio on the train and while i'm walking to work.

Guess it'll become another piece of junk in the corner

Very neat idea for an FM receiver. Works perfectly in London (you do need to change the setting to Europe from US though, otherwise you only get odd numbered frequencies).

    Neat Idea - Bad Reception

Wanted the choice to listen to the radio on the way to work in London reception intermittent and makes it annoying trying to listen to London based radio stations as it is constantly fading, also I agree with a previous comment too much cable.
