ISSUE WITH MAC MINI WITH A GRAPHICS CARD GMA 950

    Written by AG

This is a great game if installed properly. I first played on a PC which make me even more excited but there is one problem I had I have a Mac Mini but the Graphics card is a GMA 950 is it will not work, it is not very clear on the spec.

IT WILL NOT WORK ON A MINI MAC WITH A GMA 950 GRAPHICS CARD (THE SIMS COME UP BLACK, ONLY LOADS THE HAIR & EYES AND THE LOTS ARE GREY), CHECK YOUR MAC SPEC FIRST BY GOING TO THE APPLE LOGO AT THE LEFT TOP HAND CORNER BAR, CLICK ABOUT THIS MAC, CLICK MORE INFO AT THE BOTTOM, ON THE LIST ON YOUR LEFT UNDER HARDWARE CLICK ON GRAPHICS TO SEE WHAT YOUR GRAPHICS CARD IS.

IF IT IS A GMA 950 DON'T BOTHER WASTING YOUR MONEY AS IT WON'T WORK ON YOUR MAC MINI.

    Great and not so great

Sims 3 is a fabulous game and I have very little trouble playing it on any of our new Macbook Pros or Imac. Not perfect but bearable. There is a BIG problem, however, if you want to get deeper into the game and begin to add custom content to it. The EA store will take your money to add new sets, hair, clothes, etc which HAVE to be downloaded via the game's launcher. This has been a huge headache for many, not just Mac users, as you may not get what you pay for and just get a 'there has been a failure' message instead of that pretty baby room you were expecting for the tenner you just spent, and can't get back!! The launcher is painfully slow to upload anything into the game, nearly 5 minutes for 329kb !!! What is that about.
But if you are happy to play with unbearably ugly people, clothes, furniture etc. etc. Its Great!

    Great game.......BUT

I have been playing this game for a while now and it is definitely the best Sims yet. BUT this game for some reason gives me rubbish graphics and performance when running it on my new high spec iMac. My graphics card is listed as compatible too.
I updated the game and it still hasn't made any difference. However when I tried installing it on the Windows Vista Bootcamp partition on my iMac it ran extremely well...but I bought the game mainly because I could use it on Mac OS X.
Overall a fantastic game if you don't come across this issue.

    Sims 3

This is a great game but only if you have plenty of patience! It seems to run very slowly on my macbook but when loaded it is worth the wait. I used to be a big fan of sims, but got bored of the first edition, then didn't bother with the second. But this one caught my eye and i'm extremely glad I bought it. More
