Brilliant product, great value and easy to install

Bought this printer today, I'd been looking for ages for a decent wireless printer that wasn't too big or too pricey. Walked into the Apple Store on Regent Street and was confronted with this beauty, nice size, nice price, and looked like it would do the job nicely. AND - it's got a scanner, copier, card reader as well, all for sub £90. Setup was really really easy - I set up 2 laptops in about 15 mins, and it prints great.

I'm sure HP will get me on the price of replacement inks, but hey you can't have everything!! I can't believe I'm banging on about a printer on a Sunday night. I really should get out more, but thought I'd share this with you. Well impressed.

    Wireless setup is a nightmare

    Written by AM from LONDON

Printer itself is good & easy setup via usb. However trying to use it wirelessly is a different story. Checking forums for help and this is a common problem with this printer. I am not sure why apple sell this as all documentation is xp centric!!

If you want a wireless printer that is easy to set up I would probably advise against this.

    Wireless? Pointless.

This printer has single handedly changed my view on today's technology. As a proud owner of a mac and an iPhone i am used to things working without hassle, except when i have to print things...or scan...or copy...or buy new cartridges...

firstly the printer is wireless, which i will admit, works quite well, but, when you go to collect your document (which happens to be in another room) you find a paper jam, as the printer seems unable to handle more than one, human fed sheet at a time. this hassle soon became the norm and i accepted it, until the second problem came along.

every time i turn on the printer, "print cartridge missing or not properly installed" i have tried everything, buying new cartridges, cleaning it, resetting it. nothing. this is made worse by the fact the C4580 is now also rendered useless as a scanner too.

    Really not great

    Written by DG from London

    Jul 6, 2009

I bought this printer to use with a shiny new Mac. While I am delighted with the Mac, the printer is very disappointing. I didn't really NEED a new printer at all.. but the £60 cash-back offer from Apple meant I could replace my now 6 year old HP printer for only £30 net outlay. This felt like money worth spending to get what I assumed would be a better printer (6 years must be a lifetime in printing technology?

Although the printer looks nice, is very compact and set up fine (I didn't have any particular problem with Wifi setup although it's true to say it's not a breeze), it's the basic printing functions that have been a problem. 2 main things:

    - I have had several paper misfeeds, where the printer decides to take 2 or 3 sheets rather than one. No idea why.

    - While quality of document printing looks very good, photos come up quite grainy looking. Significantly less sharp than my 6 year old HP printer.

I am returning this product and will probably trade up to a more expensive model (which I hope will be a quality jump also).
