  Most expensive headsets I've bought, Are they worth it?

  Having plucked up the courage I’ve just bought my first and most expensive sennheisser Headphones to date! Are they worth it? As soon as the postman had delivered them I was tearing into the packaging trying to get them out. On first inspection I was a bit disappointed as I’d been building up the anticipation for days and at the end of the day they’re just a pair of headphones! This was kind of fuelled by the fact that there was no protective case or bag included. Having experience from in earphones in the past I know how easy it is to loose the silicone ear buds. My last set came with a protective case and these were twice as expensive, not a good start!
  
  Having come from Similiar in ear Sony headphones that cost half the price, these sennheisers had they’re work cut out! Especially as the sound characteristics of the sony’s had long been ingrained in my ears for the last 2 years. It’s always difficult moving to a new sound even though it may be better.
  
  On first touch the sennheiser’s did feel a better quality. Without disclosing my rubber fetish, the cable has got a nice rubbery feel to it and the specifically designed jack plug feels sturdy enough to handle the usuable abuse that many cheaper ones fail. The cable length is just right at 1.0-1.3 m and so is the microphone positioning. The microphone has a single button that allows you to answer and end calls and also pause and start music. The speaker pods themselves were small and very lightweight with a mixture of plastic and alloy materials used. All very lightweight! The silicon buds did feel more robust and fitted better than my sony's so the lack of protective case may not be such a big issue after all. Although it is nice to look after your hard spent money! Are you listenning sennheiser!
  
  Now the important bit, on fitting they certainly felt comfortable and hardly noticeable that I was wearing them. This was obviously due to they’re excellent size and weight. Even though I had to use the smallest buds from the 3 supplied. The sound was indeed different to what I had been accustomed to from the Sony’s over the last 2 years. Dubiously I carried on listening and after about 10 minutes I was totally sold, especially when used in anger. This is when they quality of the sound is really noticeable over cheaper headsets. The sound quality was very tight with a little less bass than what I was used to. Although this is probably because the clarity was better.
  
  With a Frequency response of 80 – 15,000 Hz they covered all the important aspects. Incidently for those who don’t understad frequency is measured in Hertz (Hz); 1Hz = 1 cycle per second. Most humans can hear sounds between 20Hz to 20,000Hz (or 20KHz). Frequency response is the range of sounds a speaker makes: Tweeters can get up to 20KHz. Mid-ranges are 500Hz-3KHz. Woofers reach 500-200Hz. Subwoofers go deep, close to 20Hz. An earthquake, for comparison, is around 5Hz; you can't really hear it, but you can feel it in your bones! A good way to make comparisons between speakers
  
  If you like to listen to music and also marvel at the quality of the sound then these are for you. The only down sides I can see is the lack of protective case and that because there were specifically designed for the iPhone, they will not work properly with any other device. You get a mono sound coming through. I’m sure they could have added a jack plug converter as most people also have iPods as well as iPhones.

  Decent headset. Beware of wind noise.

  I'm no audiophile. I spend a lot of time in noisy environments like the train. I bought these to be able to reduce the volume at which I listen and protect my hearing. I tend to listen to indy, classical and spoken word.
  
  The good
  - Much more detailed sound than Apple's iPhone headset.
  - I've been able to substantially reduce the volume levels when listening to music and spoken word.
  - Headset button is easily accessible and works fine with the standard iPhone shortcuts.
  - Microphone is well positioned - so long as you wear with the left hand earpiece cable behind your neck. Wearing them it this way also means the earpieces hang conveniently when you need to take them out at shop counters etc.
  - Comfortable and easy to insert / remove.
  
  The bad
  - Even in a light breeze I experience distracting noise from wind on the earpieces. Not a problem that affected my old Shure E2c or Apple headsets. I've experimented with the different ear-fit-rings but no joy. You’ll find this problem mentioned in reviews of Sennheiser’s other headphones. I’m shocked they’ve not fixed it.
  - Given the above, sixty quid is a bit steep.
  - As another reviewer noted, it’s strange to speak on the phone with both earpieces in - but popping out the left hand earpiece during a call fixes this problem.
  
  Also
  These are sound isolating headphones. Don’t wear them when you’re jogging (unless you want to get run over).
  
  Overall
  They do what I want. But I suspect that I’ll be keeping my original Apple headset in my bag for windy days. …More

  Superb but lacking a case

  I've lived with these 'phones for a couple of months now having previously used a pair of Bose in-ear which I sold due to them not fitting the iPhone (without an adapater anyway). Of course, they'd now fit my 3G but still have no mic! I have a pair of Sennheiser HD555 over ears for home listening too and am very happy with the brand.
  
  When I compare the Bose, Apple iPhone original issue's and these MM50iP's I immediately discount the Apple's on sound quality and noise bleed grounds and the whilst there isn't much in it, I'd recommend the MM50iP's over the Bose (although neither suffer appreciably from noise bleed - I made the wife wear them! - enough of that)
  
  Finally, when you consider the MM50iP's come with an in-line mic but the Bose come a nice case, I guess it boils down to selecting the MM50iP's if want hands-free talking and treat things with a modicum of care or opting for the Bose if you are an oaf of a recluse who has a tendency to damage or lose things!
  
  Enjoy the MM50iP's. I'd buy them again and whole heartedly recommend them.
