Etymotic hf2 Hands-free Headset
Good product, still the same design fault.

I pre-ordered my hf2's from Etymotic when they were first announced. I was very happy when they arrived quickly and they gave a discount for pre-ordering (although I still paid more than they are offered for sale here once shipping and tac was included).
I used them a couple of times a week for 3 months and the sound quality was excellent, somewhere between the ER6i's and the ER4p's which I had already own. They did get a bit painful on the ears after approximately 6 to 8 hours of use which I never had previously with Etymotic products.
The button functions in exactly the same way as the standard iPhone headset, but is much larger and less attractive, and the button does feel really rather cheap.
The problem occurred when I was delayed at an airport a few weeks back. All of a sudden the left channel died and, low and behold, when I wiggles the cable neck near the headphone jack the sound faded in and out. I am yet to meet an Etymotic owner who has not had the same problem of weak soldering at the headphone jack, so accept that you will have to send these items back to the US for repair (with £8 worth of insured shipping and hassle of being without them) when you buy them. …More150 of 180 people found this useful

First no, then YES!
Written by MS from JOENSUU

I used the basic iPhone headset, then bought these. First use was a dissappointment, weak sound and allmost no bass. I tried the earplug pieces and they were a little better, but not suitable.
Then I just tried the silicone earpieces again and I was surprised that they have to be really deep in your ear to work! Now when I've learned how to position them correctly (which is easy when you get the feel for it), they work just great! Bass and the overall sound quality is from another world. …More85 of 88 people found this useful

Etymotic hf2 Hands-free Headset
Quality product

I bought my pair of hf2s after seeing a review in the Mail on Sunday a month or so ago, and they are possibly the best £100 I have spent. I am very surprised to see a negative review on here, and cannot understand how anyone could have any qualms with this product. The clarity when listening to music or taking calls is far better than any product I have ever used, and being a regular commuter for 20 odd years now, trust me I have tried many earphones!
Etymotic has obviously taken great care in the placing of the microphone; it picks up everything that comes out of your mouth (not ideal when speaking to the wife!)! Likewise however, no matter where I am, I can hear everything that the person on the other end of the line is saying to me.
The music listening experience that the hf2s offer is incredible too, I cannot hear anything else whilst the buds are inserted and the quality of sound leads me to believe I am in a studio! I highly recommend this product and so do the press according to the reviews I have seen!

Etymotic hf2 Hands-free Headset
cheaply made product WARNING it will not last
Written by AC from Mitcham

My set failed before the end of a month after that I ve returned it for a refund. I ve now then read the reviews and I find that most people suffered from the same problem.. The product simply is not built to last. After a first week the clip that hold the headset mic to your jacket just snapped without any pressure or strain. I looked at the way it was built and the plastic where is jointed if by far too thin to last. I was even prepared to live without it but after less than a month the right headphone died without notice or misuse. I think etymotic research have really messed up here.. so many people had this problem, is now hardly a coincidence. The set sounds good but suffer from lacks of bass and volume..the native iphone headphone have much more bass than this cheaply made overpriced headset..shame cause the sound is quite clear if u push them far back into your ears. so if u buy this be prepared that they very likely fail quickly..not worth spending £100 for …More

Etymotic hf2 Hands-free Headset
A surprisingly average product with poor build quality
Written by JW from Amsterdam

I bought these head-phones on spec based on some online reviews, the brand name of etymotic and the reassuringly expensive price.
Previously I have used many different types of in ear headphones from Sony and Seinheiser. At the time of my purchase my requirement was a high quality in ear headphone, with an iPhone remote control and microphone which neither of these brands had available back then.
On first use I tried using the plastic ear buds which I found extremely painful after short periods of time, so I was forced to switch to the foam buds. To be honest I was underwhelmed by the quality of the sound: I had expected a far superior sound stage: The treble was not crisp, the mid-range spongy, and base was acceptable if you are willing to push the buds deep into your ear canal. Also the volume range peaked particularly quietly and I frequently found I was using the maximum level (on my Seinheisers it rarely gets above 70%).
The remote control and microphone worked well however, even in windy or noisy conditions.
After 8 weeks the left ear bud ceased to function. There was no warning, or crackling, it just stopped working. Apple replaced the product and since then I have continued using the earphoens, all the while feeling that they were distinctly average (my 50EUR Sonys sounded better) and not very comfortable.
Last week the left ear bud broke again. This time with a crackle and then only works if I hold the cables together at the jack. I have asked Etymotic for a refund now as I feel this product has an inherent weakness. I strongly recommend not to buy this product. …More15 of 17 people found this useful
