Works perfectly with Mac mini and Windows PC

      Written by SL from London

I purchased this product to use with my new Mac mini and my existing desktop PC running Windows, and chose this one in particular as I have a DVI monitor.

I had read the reviews of the other Belkin KVM boxes being used with the Mac mini and how they rarely work so was sceptical about this but purchased anyway and am glad I did. It worked flawlessly with both my Mac mini and my PC straight out of the box. Sturdy construction and great build quality and very easy to use with the included remote (no key combinations needed to switch).

      Great product!

      Didn't work for me

This product seems to have problems switching between a Macbookpro 15" using a Mini display port to DVI convertor and a PC with a DVI interface. Technical support couldn't seem to help.
Recomend you check carefully before you buy.

Great product, let down by poor manufacturing quality

This product should be great for the many people (like myself) who primarily use a laptop in conjunction with a larger screen, full-size keyboard, mouse etc but who also have a second computer (in my case a Windows PC for testing websites and playing COD).

To a certain degree the product has given me what I required and I can flip between Mac laptop and Windows desktop with relative ease. The downside is the build quality of the thing. The connectors look and feel cheap and the quality of the actual electric connections suffer as a result. Often times the connectors need a fair bit of 'wiggling' to get the connection to be made and lights to come on. This is annoying as I cabled everything away nicely when I set the KVM up and hid it all away as discretely as possible behind my desk. Now pretty much whenever I want to flip between the 2 systems I have to pull my desk out and give the cables a good old wiggle before the thing will work.

On the plus side, the included software is good allowing you to choose which of the components you wish to flip between systems. In practice this means that if you're listening to iTunes on the Mac and want to flip to the PC you can just flip the keyboard, video and mouse and not the audio thus keeping your music uninterrupted.

There isn't much competition for simple KVM solutions (especially ones with DVI) which could explain why Belkin haven't put more effort into making this product live up to its full potential. Perhaps if a few other manufacturers put some similar products out there Belkin would revisit the Switch2 and make it the cracking product that it really should be.

Does the job but doesn't thrill

      Written by CB from Cirencester

I'm using one of these to hook two Mac Mini's up to one Apple Cinema Display with Apple KB and Mighty Mouse, via the Mini-DVI to DVI adapters shipped with the Mac Minis. It switches everything between the two machines with no problems, but has that general air of cheapness, flimsiness and poor design I've come to associate with the Belkin brand. In particular, the switch, which is the bit you want to be heavy and stable, is very light and flimsy - you'll want to be using blu-tack or something to hold it in place or you'll be chasing it around the desk. Meanwhile, the rest of the cabling and the junction unit is awkwardly shaped, heavy and bulky, making it hard work to fit tidily on top of your desk, or around floor-standing computers. More
