RollerCoaster Tycoon 3
The ride of your (computer's) life

RCT3 is fun and exciting to play. There is a huge array of pre-built rides that let you build your dream park with ease. The 'sandbox mode' is great if you just want the fun of building as much as you want be you eight or eighty eight. The game works well on laptops - both the iBook and Powerbook play this with ease. Ride the mouse! …More

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3
A good quality, fun Sim game
Written by SP from BRADFORD

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 is a really fun Sim game whose roots can be traced back to the original Theme Park (in 1997 for DOS), there are several scenarios and a free-for-all mode which should give many hours of quality gameplay for those wanting to build the ultimate theme park.
Hardware:
RCT3 is originally a PowerPC game but has now been made a Universal Binary via a freely downloadable patch from the Aspyr Techincal Support site. This makes the game run nicely on an Intel iMac (lots of RAM needed though). Even with the graphics set to medium, the game looks very pretty. MacPro owners with good graphics cards can push the graphics quality further but on all hardware, the game will slow as the park size and complexity increases, especially with lots of scenery. This is most evident when going to the "coaster cam" and riding the rides may become stuttered or even unviewable.
Despite some lag which will begin to occur in large parks, the game is still very playable and should not become a concern.
GamePlay:
You can either play scenarios of increasing difficulty (with the later ones becoming unlocked once the earlier ones have been successfully completed). Or for those who want a blank canvas, there is a Sandbox mode for you to build the park of your dreams without having to worry about mundane things like money.
Scenarios begin with a gentle learning curve that steepens as you become more experienced with the game and obtaining "gold" entrepreneur standard becomes challenging.
There are also extras like a rollercoaster designer and a fireworks display designer. The fireworks display designer is quite complex and it is more likely that you will download ready made shows from the internet. The rollercoaster designer is more interesting (and useful) as it will let you make out and test the ultimate ride.
There is a lot of detail in RCT3 and you can change and customise just about anything, from paint work to the amount of sugar put into lemonade drinks. This vast amount of options and information can seen a little overwhelming at first and make starting off slow and to an extent too complicated for young gamers.
Bugs and Issues:
In personal playing experience, I have not come across any major issues that have made the game crash (on my Intel iMac at least), nor any game crippling bugs. Note that this is with the game updated to Universal Binary to the latest patch release. …More71 of 88 people found this useful
