Product Information

  • The 45W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector so if someone should trip over it, the cord disconnects harmlessly and your MacBook Air stays put safely. It also helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector lights up; an amber light lets you know that your notebook is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adapter for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives you an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adapter has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible only with MacBook Air featuring MagSafe 2 power port.

Works flawlessly.

The heating issues described must be related to the input voltage as I have never experienced anything close to overheating on Danish 230 V. The MagSafe 2 plug fastens securely to the rMBP, too. Less so to the MBA13 - but have never had an issue worth mentioning (though I do have to pay a little attention to it when in bed/on the sofa).

The magsafe 2 is absolutely hopeless. It disconnects from the laptop at the slightest movement. I never had a problem with the previous connector. It is impossible to use the laptop on a lap as the magsafe 2 disconnects much too easily. It juts out from the side of the laptop and looks clumsy and crude.

Not only did I find the magsafe 2 an absolute nuisance to use but the whole charger failed after less than a week having got far too hot. I took my new Macbook Air back to the shop for a refund. Apple should be ashamed of this. This is terrible design and very poor quality. This is not what customers expect from a premium brand.

The product should be recalled as it is not fit for purpose.

  • Poor design: bad angle, inadequate magnetic pull

This mea There are three problems with the new MagSafe: 1) the cable projects from the overly wide connector at a 90 degree angle. This means that if the computer and MagSafe are not completely level, it falls out. So the "laptop" has to be "table top-only" if you want to charge it. Add this to the flaw (2) of inadequate magnetic pull, and it's a disaster. If there is any grit in the power outlet in the MBA, the weak pull is lessened. The charger constantly falls out. 3) The coating on my cable nearest the connector (perhaps because of its 90 degree projection?) got stressed and split. Now I need to buy a new one as the internal wiring is exposed. This has never happened with any Apple cable before, and I am a long-term user. It has to be the design of this one.

Apple, please, go back to the old design of the brilliant MagSafe 1. And offer it for the 2013 MBA.

I had this power adapter for 1.5 years and it's now damaged. The cable broke and it wouldn't charge anymore.
