Product Information

  • The 85 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light up; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adapter for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adapter has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with 15- or 17-inch MacBook Pro.

I love my macs no doubt about it - but the magsafe adapters make me hate apple. The magsafe is such an expensive devise and at the same time the cord is so prone to braking off where it is connected to the charger. And then you cant just buy a new cord...you HAVE to buy a whole new charger...this is both very bad for the consumer and also for the environment. I really hope apple will soon realise that this way of milking costumers is not viable in the 21th century.

So I beg you Apple: please fix the real problem and make a magsafe with a detachable cord.

This newer connector is marginally smaller and does not fit snugly into the socket on the computer. I bought two of these at the Apple Store, Regent Street which didn't work, and I was eventually advised to buy the older part number MA938B for my January 2008 MBP. Check before you buy!

They always come apart at the same point; where the mag safe end of the lead attaches to the transformer. They're not good enough, way too expensive and I'm bored of having to pay upwards of £65 to replace an entire unit, when it's just a cable and it's insulation that are the problem. Really bad, do something about it.

I've had my current MacBook for less than three years now, and in that time I've gone through two adapters and my third one just started acting up so no doubt is on its last legs. As any MacBook user knows, the problem is most often that the magsafe plug separates from the cable, and given that the cable's other end is hard-wired to the adapter, one has no option but to throw the whole shebang away and buy a new one - and the blasted things cost upwards of £60 a pop! Apple -- you really need to sort this issue out, because it's seriously cheesing off your otherwise happy and loyal customers, and you're not doing yourselves any favours by pretending that there's no problem! :-(

Cable deteriorated where it connects to the Macbook, leaving exposed wire and posing a potential fire risk. So many one star reviews speaks volumes! This was my first Macbook Pro and it will be my last.
