Product Information

  • The 85 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light up; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adapter for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adapter has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with 15- or 17-inch MacBook Pro.

I love my macs no doubt about it - but the magsafe adapters make me hate apple. The magsafe is such an expensive devise and at the same time the cord is so prone to braking off where it is connected to the charger. And then you cant just buy a new cord...you HAVE to buy a whole new charger...this is both very bad for the consumer and also for the environment. I really hope apple will soon realise that this way of milking costumers is not viable in the 21th century.

So I beg you Apple: please fix the real problem and make a magsafe with a detachable cord.

This newer connector is marginally smaller and does not fit snugly into the socket on the computer. I bought two of these at the Apple Store, Regent Street which didn't work, and I was eventually advised to buy the older part number MA938B for my January 2008 MBP. Check before you buy!

This part of cable should have been made of a stronger material, or designed so that this part can be easily changed like you can with the Plugged section of cable on the adapter. £65 to buy a new adapter each time is too much, when you could have designed this to have the option of just replacing the part of the cable that is damaged at a cheaper cost to the consumer and also being more environmentally friendly as well.

I generally consider Apple products reliable and robust. This power supply is rubbish. It's not hot (it's a cold winters day). Lou I generally consider Apple products reliable and robust. This power supply is rubbish. It's not hot (it's a cold winters day). Loud bang, big yellow flash. £65 down the drain. Days work lost waiting for new power supply.

My 8 year old Dell laptop is still on it's first power supply. In fact, I've never known a power supply fail before on anything.

I've been through two of these chargers already, and my girlfriend's has also stopped working. The cable appears to have melted at the end! Of course things are prone to wear and tear but come on!? Please — please — just sort it out Apple!
