Stunning is an understatement.

Made for the new Macbook family

Made for the new MacBook family.

The LED Cinema Display is the first display designed specifically for the MacBook. Three easy connections allow you to extend your desktop, charge your MacBook and access a world of USB peripherals.

Connect via Mini DisplayPort

Connect via Mini DisplayPort.

The LED Cinema Display attaches to your new MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air using the new industry-standard Mini DisplayPort connector. Other display connectors have you lining up pins or fumbling with screws. But the Mini DisplayPort connector is easy in, easy out. Now you can also attach your LED Cinema Display to Mac desktop computers that have a Mini DisplayPort: Mac Pro, Mac mini, and iMac.

IcExtend your desktop

Extend your desktop.

Connect the LED Cinema Display to your new computer, and it's like upgrading your screen to first class. The 24-inch LED-backlit widescreen display adds 1920 by 1200 pixels to your workspace, giving your work more room to impress. And its glossy finish makes graphics, photos, and video appear in rich colors and deep blacks.

The LED advantage.

The LED advantage.

LEDs are solid-state light sources that are an ideal complement to digital LCDs. They light up very quickly, which means you experience full screen brightness the moment you connect your LED Cinema Display to your system. And LEDs are completely mercury-free.

MagSafe connector.

MagSafe connector.

The LED Cinema Display is the perfect companion for your new MacBook, because it includes a convenient universal MagSafe connector that powers and charges your MacBook when you're back at your home, office, or dorm. You can leave your MacBook power adapter right in your bag, ready to hit the road.

Built-in conveniences.

With a built-in iSight camera, microphone, speaker system, and USB hub, the LED Cinema Display keeps your desktop clutter-free. Have video conferences with your MacBook closed. Listen to music without headphones. And leave your USB peripherals connected to the display for quick get-up-and-go productivity. You can also connect it to your Mini DisplayPort-enabled Mac Pro or Mac mini to instantly enjoy these convenient video and audio features.

Green Design.

Green design.

The LED Cinema Display, like the latest-generation iPod, iPhone, and Mac computers, features mercury-free LED backlight technology and arsenic-free glass. The display is also free of BFRs and PVCs in all internal cables and components. In addition, the glass and aluminum construction make the display highly recyclable, so its raw materials can be used in other types of products.

    Superb product

    Written by FM from London

I own a new unibody 15' MacBook Pro and was looking for a monitor to allow myself to work more precisely with applications such as Apperture or iMovie. I shopped around (HP made interesting ones as well with integrated mic and webcam for half the price) but in due fairness the LED cinema display was the best choice (although the priciest) for several reasons:
    - no cables and wires dangling everywhere
    - plug and play
    - for the price to have a 24' LED (and not LCD!) is a bargain (and yes I am going to have to eat pasta for the whole of March after spending that much in one go!).

I had a scary moment when once plugged I found the definition a bit grainy and gross but when using it with the MacBook monitor off (allowing you to be able still to use the keyboard) the resolution is just amazing, especially comes to pictures. The glossiness of the display has not been a problem as far as I am concerned, and given the room where it sits.

It is important to note that this display is usable only with the new unibody MacBook and MacBook Pro family as it needs to minidisplay port to function. However, it seems that Apple has allowed 3rd-party manufacturers to produce adaptors so people with the older generation shoud be able to use it anytime soon.

The reason why I give it 4 instead of 5 stars, is because it is not a very nice move from Apple to forget people who are loyal to the brand and could feel left out, especially if they bought a less recent MacBook brand new from them just before the unibody family was released. On top of that this display is not usable with game consoles as there is no hdmi or any other kind of ports. But comes to the product as such it is remarkable, and a nice piece of design too).

Great monitor, but check compatibility first!

This is a superb monitor (as long as you like the glossy finish). However...

This monitor only comes with a mini-DisplayPort adapter. Unless you have a brand new Mac laptop or desktop, you will not be able to connect the monitor.

Optimists hoping to be able to find a mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter of the right gender (opposite to those sold in the Apple Store) will be doomed to a long search.

    24 inch Cinema Display

I agree with all the positive comments about this display. The quality is very good. But I also want to emphasise what at least one reviewer has already said. This is really only suitable for use with a laptop. I made the mistake of buying one to go with my desktop, or rather, desk under, MacPro (itself a great bit of kit) and the mini display port lead is nothing like long enough to reach (its less than three feet) to be able to position the two items comfortably. A search for a longer lead, or a way of extending the existing one including creative use of connectors, failed miserably (and I was looking in the UK and the US). So this is a potential show-stopper unless Apple, or a third party supplier, fix this problem.

I strongly urge, therefore, a google search for a longer lead before buying the screen, so that you can be sure that a stupid minor glitch like this doesn't render your expensive purchase unusable.

    Was I doing something wrong?

    Written by WS from Aberdeen

    Dec 10, 2009

Find it difficult to believe I'm reviewing the same product as everyone else.
I was looking for a new monitor for my (pre-MiniDisplayPort connection) MacPro so (because I'm a bit of an Apple freak) I decided to investigate this expensive display. I went to the Apple Shop in Aberdeen and asked an assistant if I could use this with my MacPro. I told him I didn't have the MiniDisplayPort connection on my Mac, so was there an adaptor for a DVI port? Yes, he said and gave me a MiniDVI-DVI adaptor. Excellent. I went home, pleased with yet another great Apple purchase, happily unwrapped it then it all went wrong. I realised the adaptor was the wrong one. I looked on the Apple website and realised the adaptor didn't exist. If I wanted to use it with my MacPro I had to go and buy a soundcard for around £125. I was about to give in and set about ordering one, when I thought first I'd better try it out on my 15" MacBook Pro. I plugged it in and found the display to be very pixilated compared to the on board screen. I tried all the different settings in the System Preferences but couldn't find one that was as good. I was now extremely unhappy, took it back and got a refund. It's a pity this and the £1173.00 giant 30" cinema display are the only options from Apple.I can't afford the larger display, so I'm stuck contemplating buying a generic PC Monitor.
That's the first time I've been unhappy with an Apple product, and that's coming from someone with a G3, G5, MacPro, 15"Macbook Pro, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3Gs, Original iPod, 2x Classic iPods (3 if you count the one that got stolen), not to mention all the Apple Software I've bought over the years. Please get this sorted.
If someone can tell me I was using a wrong setting for the display, fine, I'm willing to try again!

Is this display worth the money?

    Written by IG from Chester

    Dec 8, 2009

I had been toying with the idea of purchasing this display for a while so had read numerous reviews and talked to guys at an Apple authorised seller to see if it would really meet my needs for the not inconsiderable purchase price. I was already using a HP 22" monitor with speakers which was adequate enough but, as a keen photographer/videographer, wanted to step up to an LED display for the extra clarity. Seemed like the Apple display would suit that need.

As I like to keep my desktop clutter free I was also keen to know whether I would need to attach an additional audio cable to power the speakers. A simple enough question, or so I thought. On asking the Apple authorised seller if the mini display connection carried audio they said no and that I would need to attach a cable! An assistant in a department store said that the mini display port transported audio and mic feeds so I did not need to attach a cable. Even chatting to a representative from Apple via the Apple Store did not give me a conclusive answer. Finally, I downloaded the documentation to find out that audio and mic feed is transported via the USB cable. All of that sorted, I went ahead and ordered.

Delivery took place on the third day after ordering so well done to Apple for that. After getting the display out of the packaging I found it an absolute breeze to set up (as I expected, only three cables plus a power lead after all!) Despite having viewed the display in action in an Apple store I was still utterly amazed at how much more clarity and definition my pictures had once I had fired my Macbook up. In fact every application looked better. I was also pleasantly surprised about the quality of sound from the speakers despite having read reviews to the contrary. Not professional speaker quality but far superior to most monitors with inbuilt speakers and very satisfactory for my needs. All of that and the display looks superb on my desk which, lets face it, plays a part in the decision making process when buying Apple gear!

One point to note if you are considering purchasing this display and, like me, have fitted a Speck shell casing to your macbook, the display magsafe connector does not fit properly as it is obstructed by the Speck casing! I got around this by taking a sharp knife to the Speck casing and carefully trimming a hollow where the magsafe cable was hitting it. This took about two minutes and did the job perfectly still retaining enough structural integrity in the casing to prevent it breaking.

So far my short experience with this display has been outstanding. Hopefully it will give me years of service and I won't be tempted to upgrade to the next model (which will undoubtedly be out about two months after purchasing this one, will have better features and cost less!!!)

Is this display worth the money? For my requirements, definately.

Fantastic display though lacking on sound quality

    Written by CS from Preston

    Nov 29, 2009

Just got the new display delivered on Friday and been using it over the weekend.

As a display it's a fantastic piece of kit. I work with spreadsheets, schematics of buildings plus use the display for catch up TV, surfing, etc.. and have found viewing all these a real pleasure and infinitely better than previously on the standalone MacBook Pro.

As always with Apple products, the design, look and feel of the Screen gets top marks 10/10. My only negative comment is as mentioned in other reviews, the sound quality is lacking. OK, I wasn't expecting state of the ART crystal clear audio but would have thought with the level of detail and quality put into the actual screen and picture quality Apple may have got the Sound quality better?

A shame but don't let this put you off.....a great product overall. Really glad I have taken the plunge for this display
