Overview

Innovative Scroll Ball and button

Perfectly positioned to roll smoothly under just one finger, the Apple Mouse's Scroll Ball offers full 360-degree scrolling capability - up/down, left/right and diagonally. You can scroll long web pages, pan full-sized images, manoeuvre around large spreadsheets, control a video timeline and more. And you can even click the Scroll Ball to access your favourite Mac OS X features, such as Dashboard, Spotlight or Exposé.

Touch-sensitive top shell

It looks and feels like a sleek one-button mouse, but the Apple Mouse's smooth top shell hides a powerful secret: touch-sensitive technology under the shell detects which part of the mouse you're clicking, so you can both left click and right click. And if you prefer the simplicity of a classic, one-button mouse, the Apple Mouse is up to the task. Just use the Mac OS X system preference pane to configure it as you want.

Force-sensing side buttons

When you give the Apple Mouse a squeeze, force-sensing side buttons can be configured to activate Mac OS X features, such as Dashboard, Exposé or a whole host of other customisable features.

Customisable

If you have Mac OS X, the Apple Mouse can give you fingertip access to the special features that you love. Simply use the system preference panel to configure the Apple Mouse in the way that makes you most powerful. Control the Scroll Ball's tracking and click functions, as well as the right, left and side click functions. And you can even set up different mouse profiles for every user account on your Mac.

Optical Tracking

Powered by a precision optical sensor, the Apple Mouse provides responsive and accurate cursor movement on almost any type of surface - no mouse pad required.

READ THIS if scrollwheel not working

    Written by NT from Charlbury

    Jan 7, 2008

OK, granted, there is a flaw in the design of this mouse, but I bet 90% of mice problems can be solved like this:

    1. unplug the mouse from the keyboard
    2. turn it upside down
    3. roll the scrollwheel in all directions on a blank (clean) piece of paper, in all directions, for 60 seconds
    4. re-attach

bingo! works every time. this is a good mouse in both OS X and Windows, I have used it for gaming and is excellent for browsing large webpages or large documents, with its 360 degree scrollwheel. although at times i want to get away from the mouse/keyboard combo (it is 2008 now, after all), at least this Mighty Mouse lessens the pain somewhat.

    scroll wheel problems

Written by SM from NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE

    Aug 27, 2007

I like Apple products but I'm very unhappy with the scroll wheel problem on the so-called "Mighty" Mouse. I found that within a few months of getting my new iMac I lost use of vertical scrolling on the mouse and had it replaced. A couple of months further on and the same problem has occurred with the replacement. The 360 degree scrolling capability is a nice idea, but it has been poorly implemented. More

    Scroll ball clogs

    Written by SR from BRISTOL

    Oct 16, 2007

Works fine for a couple of months, then the scroll ball clogs up. You then need to crack it open with a screwdriver (forcing open not unscrewing), unscrew the scroll ball assembly, clean the minute rollers, put it all back together and super glue the base back on.

Repeat this routine every 2 months (I've done it at least a dozen times). Helpful technical support people suggested buying a new one when I complained, and then put the phone down when I pointed out that this was rather an expensive option.

i bought my imac about 2 months ago which came with the normal mouse.in the last 3 weeks the scroll wheel/button has gradually stopped working to the point that it can no longer scroll anything...ive tried cleaning it but still no luck.

so , its generally looks nice, doesnt work too well...

when it did work , it worked well but I'm surprised how quickly it has become faulty through normal , clean use.

    Not comfortable to use

    Written by DK from Darlington

    Oct 21, 2009

My Mighty Mouse (or Apple Mouse as it now has to be called) hasn't had any problems at all in the couple of years I've had it. However, it's clearly a product of style over ergonomics.

The mouse looks great and the scroll ball and squeeze sensors all work fine. But it's simply not a comfortable mouse to use. Mine only gets used intermittently as I eventually got sick of its poor, uncomfortable feel and replaced it with a proper ergonomically designed mouse - that is, a mouse that's designed to feel comfortable in my hand, rather than one that's designed to look good sitting on my mouse mat.

Take my advice, don't buy this mouse, unless you're looking for an ornament.

I've used my mouse every day for over a year and there has never been a problem with either mouse or wheel - Maybe you should wash your hands once in a while ;-).. More
