App controls the WeMo Switch and WeMo Motion.
The iPhone home remote. Control stuff in your home – from anywhere.
Belkin’s new WeMo system is a family of simple, ingenious products that use your iPhone and your home Wi-Fi® network to connect you to the things and people you love. WeMo is your home at your fingertips.
WeMo can control just about anything.
With WeMo you can turn on a light from another room, or turn it off from across town. You can put your home on a schedule—living room lights go on in the evening, kids’ TV goes off at bedtime. You can check to make sure you turned the iron off, after you’ve already left. WeMo Switch is the iPhone home remote.
The Complete WeMo System.
The WeMo App runs on your iPhone and controls any electronic device you plug into a WeMo Switch—if you can plug it in, you can turn it on or off with WeMo. And WeMo Motion lets you control the devices when motion is detected. Have the floor lamp go on when you enter the living room, and turn off when you leave.
WeMo Switch and WeMo Motion are available at major retailers.
The WeMo family of products is great at automating repetitive tasks, and at allowing you to control your household in ways you’d never thought possible.
The beauty of WeMo is it’s completely modular. You can control as much or as little of your home as you like. Control one light, one room, or the whole house. There’s no limit to what WeMo can do. If you can think of it, you can probably do it with WeMo. WeMo is your home at your fingertips.

I'm not sure who answers the questions on these products but I can only assume they haven't bought one and are purely speculating. I'm not sure who answers the questions on these products but I can only assume they haven't bought one and are purely speculating. Let's clear up the UK 220V issue straight off. It IS 220V and works perfectly in the UK. Any mention of 110V is for the US plugs and is nothing to do with the UK plug. If you walk into an Apple Store and take a look at the bottom of the box it makes it quite clear that the plug is a 220V version.
Unfortunately Apple are using the US photos which doesn't help the confusing but trust me, it's the UK plug and will work fine.
Onto the device. It's a fairly bulky thing and very similar to the old plugs you'll have seen for turning your lights on and off when on holiday. Well this of course does exactly that but it works remotely so you can be switching your lights on and off from anywhere in the world. The other very useful feature is the ability to set times for the switch to come on and off and at set times including picking specific days. As you add more switches you just give them custom names and before you know it you've got home automation in the palm of your hands.
This really is a great device that does exactly what it says on the tin. …

Simple and superb

Previous experience with these WiFi enabled things has been patchy, but this was incredibly easy. Plug it in, press the button and then configure the WeMo through the easy to use App. Simple. I was expecting a tricky part, but there wasn't one.
If you are keen to explore further, you can set rules from the App itself and activate, or deactivate them remotely, simply switch it on and off remotely, or if you are really adventurous, you can register for "If This Then That" which is a web-based system which enables you to link the WeMo to external "Actions", like a website reporting that the sun is setting in your area, or that the temperature will be below zero that day...
Unbelievably simple, and the possibilities are almost endless.
Get one. Then see how long it takes before you are thinking about getting another... …

The world according to Belkin
Just received this WeMo switch and have tried to set it up. ...BUT it will not connect to a network where the WPA pass phrase cont Just received this WeMo switch and have tried to set it up. ...BUT it will not connect to a network where the WPA pass phrase contains spaces. You get an error advising you of this.
Come on Belkin, you really have to be kidding me. I teach Grade 6 students who learn that adding spaces to a pass phrase is good practise because it increases the password permutations and therefore reduces vulnerability to hacking. Belkin you need to get your engineers to go rejoin Grade 6 and learn about how WPA works!
This is not the first time in several years that I have purchased a Belkin product to find that it is non-standard and will not work with non-Belkin (or even other Belkin) devices.
I am certainly not going to re-configure the other 46 wifi devices on my network to remove the spaces from the network pass phrase. This Belkin device is going back for a refund. In future I will avoid Belkin products. …

New password restriction renders useless
I just had to reset my device, and now find I can no longer connect it to the network it was connected to before for months becaus I just had to reset my device, and now find I can no longer connect it to the network it was connected to before for months because, after firmware/app updates, the WeMo app now refuses passwords with spaces in it.
I'm not changing the password on all the untold other devices in the house because Belkin's engineers are incompetent, so I guess this gets tossed in the bin. Avoid -- even if this doesn't affect you, you can't rely on them not breaking something else at some point.
Be aware also that its wifi reception is not great -- I've had it fail to connect in the past in areas where my cell phone is getting a medium-level 3 bar signal. …
