Yet another 'designed' backpack that (apparently) hasn't been iteratively developed in real use.

Don't be misled by "Water-res istant nylon body material" as the zips and seams let water in. The zips have no flaps to even try to keep the water out.

You either need to get a backpack cover or keep all valuables in plastic bags inside. Or get another rucksack...

The hard compartment is gimmicky - I used to use a small plastic box anyway, but now the hard box is where Thule think you will always want it, so it often gets in the way. Oh, and my small plastic box was waterproof but Thule's has no lid, so it just fills up with water when it rains.

I could say more, but the gist is that if you don't live in a desert, this isn't at all suitable for carrying anything you want to keep dry, er, like laptops.

  • A bag of two halves.

    4.0 out of 5 stars

I love this bag. But it's a bittersweet relationship. It looks amazing and it may actually be worth the money (somehow). It's got the perfect amount of pockets and I've never had to worry about extra storage.

I didn't have a bad word to say about it, until today.

I was caught in a heavy shower, ten minutes away from my uni accommodation. Needless to say, I got soaked. 'But it's okay,' I thought; 'it's water-resistant'.

The funny thing is, it's not. At all.

Luckily, I didn't have my MacBook Pro with me. If I had, it would have been ruined. Unusable. My notepad and papers are all still thoroughly soaked and have that twisted appearance signalling they're closer to disintegrating that drying out.

So, what can I say? I still love the bag -- but that's only because I didn't have my MacBook in it. It cost £89, but it could have cost me £1,000+. So I don't really know how to review it. I'd give it five stars, but I'm going to have to give it four. I can't think of a better alternative, but like a previous reviewer said: bring another plastic bag if you think it's going to rain.

Or else say good bye to your MacBook.

  • Fabulous Backpack

    5.0 out of 5 stars

I have a 15 inch Macbook Pro and wanted a quality backpack to carry the MBP plus papers / books when travelling into work on the t rain or when travelling abroad. This bag is really fabulous - very high quality and the crush-proof pocket is a great idea.

There's an internal zipped pocket for valuables and plenty of storage space for a power lead and other bits. The other thing I like is that this bag doesn't shout 'laptop bag' and is certainly smart enough to take into work / external meetings.

    Thoroughly recommended.

  • EXCELLENT BACKPACK - WATERPROOF TOO = PERFECT FOR EVERYDAY COMMUTING

    5.0 out of 5 stars

I wasn't in favour of purchasing this back at first, although from many reviews I was disappointed. Although having bought this ba ckpack I think it was the best investment to make for a 15 In Macbook Pro. Even tho it says 17 Inch Backpack it still works perfectly for Macbook Pro 15 Inch and fits securely and perfectly in backpack - padding at the bottom of the pocket which keeps the Mac protected at all times.

Apart from that YES IT'S WATERPROOF - That was the first thing I did was test it under water and it seems to keep the water out just perfectly. Great for heavy rainy days - just as mentioned and explained by an Apple Rep. A very comfortable backpack - don't even feel the Mac on my back.

No, regrets in purchasing this bag - Very good and durable material. I just love it. Think of it this way - you get what you pay for.!! 5*****

Thanks Apple to a great investment!

Great bag!! But when it's raining its just annoying! Your bag gets soaked up and your MacBook would probably get destroyed!! But w hat I'm trying to say is that if you want to stay with the discount you should use a bag you already have. And then buy a case that fits in your bag.

So overall it's A great bag. But just not for a teenager who doesn't make that much money

  • A very good functional little pack

    4.0 out of 5 stars

I've been using one of these for about 9 months. It was issued through work and I have to say it is really very good. The side str aps and pockets are a little superfluous, but everything else is really very well thought out. The essentials box is a great little addition, although it does flop in the way when the bag is open, but Ido like the ability to have phone, glasses etc easily accessible without having to open the main compartment.
It is funny reading the moans about water entering through zips and seams. The description highlights water resistant fabric, which provides a different level of protection than that needed for being out in a prolonged rain. i guess that folk need to be realistic about their expectations.
