    Leather version marks very fast

    • Written by from London

Bought the tan leather for white ipad 2 which looked gorgeous for about 2 weeks. Poor quality leather shows every mark especially round the edges where hands handle it. I tried using leather products to clean it but it came out looking worse. Now looking very shabby indeed and needs replacing.

    Strange leather!

    • Written by from Dunmow

This was the first cover I bought for my iPad2. Mistake. Not only does it not look like leather, or age like leather, but it has no resistance to fingermarks and seems to pick up grease and stains with ease, despite me being fairly careful and tending only to use my 'Pad with clean hands. It is more like suede, and attempts to clean it failed. In the end, and after only a few weeks, it looked like the brown cardboard lining of a used pizza box; stained and unattractive. And it made my lovely new iPad2 look dreadful.

Feeling sorry for me, my wife and daughter bought me the plastic lime green Apple Smart Cover. At least I can spot the iPad around the house easily when it's wearing that, and it can be cleaned with a moist cloth if required.

Function-wise the Smart Cover is fine. But personally, I would avoid any of the 'leather' covers - save a few quid and go for the cheaper plastic pastel ones.

    Perfect iPad Companion

    • Written by from London

So perfectly designed to match the iPad, it augments what is already an amazing product.

It's not there to be a protector case really, except for protecting the screen from scratches. It does make a fantastic multi-purpose stand though and also for holding the iPad while reading.

    Love it.

Great - read the product description

    • Written by from GLASGOW

Apple sell this as a 'cover' (clue is in the word). For those blaming it for not protecting their screens from drops... don't drop it and buy a protective cover or case.

Yes, they are expensive, but do exactly what Apple describe. It you have spent a lot of money on your iPad, then the cost of this is all relevant.

Nice quality - careful if choosing the lighter colours

    • Written by from Sheffield

I have the tan leather one which looks and feels lovely. However, as mentioned in another review, it does mark very easily. I'd suggest covering it in one of the leather shoe protector sprays from day 1 so any water/oily/dirty marks don't show up as easily. Basically, go for the darker ones if you're anything less than super careful with your stuff.

Disappointing - marks far too easily

    • Written by from Bridgnorth

I bought the tan leather cover for my iPad, which for what it is, is not particularly cheap. Like other reviewers here, I have found that its impossible to look after, and stains really easily, with no way of removing the stains. As another reviewer here said 'it looks like the inside if a pizza box'.

I really wish I'd saved my money, go for the cheaper option, it will last better!

    Brillant

    • Written by from Fleetwood,

What a fantastic cover, it's so simple and yet it is multifunctional, daft as it sounds but l could play with the cover as much as the iPad which is also great. I realise it's pricey for what you get, but it's worth every penny, my advice would be to invest in one of these covers.

    Bit of a let down

Not very good value for money. Does not stay in place very well, it's always just falling off. Went back to my old leather case, at least that stayed put.

    A waste of money

    • Written by from Redditch

Functionally this expensive cover is fine, but as others have remarked the suede finish marks far too easily. After only a fortnight's use my cover looks an absolute mess, and there is no way to clean it. I really wish I'd bought one of the cheaper plastic covers.

    Keep away from tan leather!

    • Written by from Rainham

The first product I have torn up and thrown in the rubbish. Leather is meant to look professional, this item stained and looked filthy after every touch; I know it comes with a warning, but come on... I even washed my hands before holding this item!

    Tan leather case

    • Written by from Hayling island

I decided to pay the extra for a leather smart cover and I'm very happy with it. I don't know what everyone is complaining about, mine is doing what it's supposed to do and protecting the screen and looking very stylish at the same time. My cover is ageing ok and contrary to others, I have managed to wipe off grease spots with a damp cloth. If I do have a criiticism, it is that there is no protection for the back of the ipad and mine was getting scratched. So, I have bought a "skin" that works with the smart cover. Problem solved, I'm surprised Apple havn't switched on to this. Overall a good accessory if a little expensive.

    ipad smart cover leather Tan

    • Written by from SOUTHAMPTON

This does exactly as it says on the box, and still looks fantastic after a whole year of use, love this cover. Made my iPad 2 that had been bought for me as a birthday present last year even more special.

    NO PROTECTION!

    • Written by from pinner

BEWARE: This product offers no protection for the screen whatsoever, even though it's called a 'Smart' cover...it's not that smart! I dropped my ipad 12" onto a carpet and the screen cracked.
For £60, I would of expected it to have active impact protection built-in, such as D3O, but it doesn't. If I'd known, I would of spent the money better and got my ipad protected as the screen appears to have the same impact resistancy as a wine glass!
