The design is good but I wish they'd have included an external mic input along side the line out and a remote control for music and video navigation would have been nice. in short it's too basic and has missed a trick

The design is good, works perfectly, having to take the Smart Cover off isn't exactly a big deal, it's not going to harm you, so not really worth rating one star because of that, I would give it 5 star though if you could leave it on, but I think the other reviewers have been really harsh.

P.S think one like this should be available for the iPod Touch.

Very basic dock with limited application. Would have been nice if it came with a remote like the ipod touch/iphone dock. Would defiantly have paid more. Also the ipad3 wont fit in the dock with its case on? the design of this unit needs to be rethought.

It works as it should and are simply just perfect for my iPad.

Originally got this for our iPad 2 and it works just as well with our New iPad (as Apple insist on calling the 3). Sits perfectly on the cabinet, always plugged in but only using electricity when the iPad needs it, so you know that the moment you pick it up its 100% charged and ready for the next 9 or 10 hours. It also ensures that the iPad is safe because its standing at an angle not laying about the room waiting to be knocked off the sofa or walked over on the floor, To be honest I can't get my head around any of the negative comments below (for instance we have never had an issue putting the iPad onto the dock!).
The only way it could be better would be if it was heavier; but this is solved with a bit of Blue Tack to stop the dock lifting as you pick up the iPad.
The £25 it is currently retailing for is worth every penny and we wouldn't be without it.

I thought that removing and replacing the smart cover would be easy but no, i kept on losing the cover and the magnets now seem weak and worn out (not the SC's fault). In addition, if you miss the dock connector it will most likely scratch the iPad. The iPad 1 dock made more sense, but it is smaller and more wobbly (but compatible with Ipad 2's SC). Also, the 2 dock doesn't state this on the box, and it doesn't come with a 10W adapter or apple stickers, which is a shame.

On the plus side if you do think on getting it it is well made and weighty (but you'll struggle getting it in your bag due to odd shape) and the dock connector is not solidly fixed it is slightly flexible so it won't snap off as you angle it forward. There is also an audio out that i can't comment on.

Fortunately, return was simple and painless and I am definitely pleased with the service on that part. Just don't throw the box away.

In my opinion I will probably use this as a bedside stand to charge the iPad overnight.

My two main gripes with this accessory are...
1. I bought this to be used with the Digital AV connector. However, the ipad can only be positioned in portrait; this is fine for most applications but when connecting via the Digital AV connector most movies, pictures would be more suited to being displayed in landscape.
2. The smart cover does not sit neatly behind the ipad when docked, therefore it either needs to be removed completely each time the dock is used or it has to be folded to one side, which looks untidy.
Overall disappointed. I would have expected more thought from Apple given the innovative ideas that have gone into the iPad and the price of the accessory.

Can't use the smart cover while on the dock: this is very annoying.... Could probably be fixed by having a wider slot on the dock...

The dock is very stable, easy to align (all you have to do is place the home button in the middle), charge and play music at the same time, as for the smart cover issue it's hardy difficult to remove the smart cover and then place it back on when needed, and in terms of syncing and charging when iOS 5 is released you can charge with the plug and sync wirelessly to your PC/mac so no issues there. Overall very good price, very stable and sits the iPad at the perfect angle. Well worth the small investment.

This delivers exactly what the box promises. A neat solution where one has (e.g.) one's mbp on one's not very large desk and wants to multi-task with the iPad 2 as screen 2. The iPad 2 fits in very snugly, with no sideways or backwards wiggle (i.e. crucial stability is delivered). The connection is easily lined up (i.e. the home button goes bang in the middle) and the iPad slots in effortlessly. The base is slightly rubberised so on one's slidey desk surface it grips perfectly. It takes minimal space to do a professional job. The only reason 4 not 5 stars is that a second port for sync-ing whilst charging would deliver the absolutely perfect configuration. Personally, I think the smart cover's big selling point is its extreme ease of on/off-ness, so I can see no reason to be woebegone to 'have' to take it off to use the dock!
