Waste of time and a con

    • Written by from Heston

This cable does not do what it says. You cannot play most iTunes purchased movies or tv shows on an external display because of some dodgy protection mechanism which is baked into the iPad not the movie. If th movie can be played using the composite cables then the protection is against the use of the vga nt the actual content.

Apple is conning us with this cable.

What a waste of time and money. I want a full refund and compensation for time wasted in purchasing and downloading the movies I have done.

Not the best thing - it doesn't seem to fit the IPhone 4 model ... And I can't play movies through it either so what is the point in it?

6 reasons to avoid this thing

    • Written by from Crewe

    1) Can't show photos unless running in a slideshow. 2)Doesn't mirror what you see on screen for iPod touch4 (printed in almost invisible light grey font on white background in ad) 3) Doesn't work with Youtube app. 4) When it actually does work, it is a delayed reaction. 5) Doesn't play iTunes movies. 6) It's an obviously one but it needs to be said - outrageously overpriced. Very dissapointed.

    Very disappointed

    • Written by from Ambres

I get a green hue on everything that is mirrored. I know that my set up is OK because I use the same leads, except for the 30-pin VGA adapter, with my Mac Book Pro and that produces a perfect picture. So the problem lies with this adapter.

you buy a new 500 quid phone every year to ensure

    Really disappointed

    • Written by from Coventry

I bought one of these cables for my iPad 3 for use in my lessons at school. It just does not work with my iPad! It works fine with my iPhone, and my colleagues ipad2 but not my ipad3.
Apple have had my iPad back and returned it saying there is nothing wrong yet the lead does not work with my ipad3 and therefore is a real let down and means I cannot use this wonderful piece of kit for teaching with.

Awful - used four times & it broke

    • Written by from Uddingston

Thought this would be great and save me lugging a laptop/charger around for presentations and it worked fine - for four times. Then I had to move a projector and iPad. When I went to reconnect - nothing. Totally died on me. Reconnected to other VGAs and nothing. Unit has totally died. Not the standard I expect from Apple - especially at the price.

Wasted money Apple Store tech did not know anything

    • Written by from Birming

Bought this specifically to watch itunes purchased movies on projector at home with the family. Asked the Apple tech guys if this would work and they definitely assured me it would! What a bunch of lies to sell products, this is OK to watch your iPad home screen or run a limited number of apps on the projector but as soon as you start a movie get a message saying 'this device is not authorised to play this movie'. Wish I had read the reviews before spending £25 on this rubbish.

Following advise from the Apple sales staff, I bought this product believing that All my applications including ITunes movies and music can be played through my non Apple TV, just to find that his is not possible. What a waste of money and time. I am bitterly dissapointed.

I bought this adapter to show a keynote presentation on a sony digital projector. The adapter partially worked in that it got the iPad2 screen onto the projector but the keynote presentation was shifted way off to the right of the projected area thus cropping 20% off from, the left hand side. I had to attach my laptop in the end which worked perfectly through the same projector.

I have also had no luck with the apple iPad hdmi adapter which repeatedly goes black or green after every 10 minutes or so of movie playback.

My impression is that apple is rushing these products to market before they are ready.

Very disappointing ... Apart from projecting slide shows it does next to nothing for my iPad ... I bought adapter in store and nothing on packing to indicate this would be the case

Do not buy this product if you want to view movies from the iTunes store!

    • Written by from London

Very disppointed that Apple does not make it absolutely clear that iTunes movies can not be view to a projector or TV with this product. I only found out after I had rented the movie and the clock started ticking on the movie, limiting when I could watch it!

It works fine with games and surfing the internet. Doesn't make any sense!

Was looking forward to connecting my iPad 2 to my telly unfortunately the connection from the apple adapter is female so would need another cable(another male to male adapter) to convert the lead to my telly.
As with the hdmi lead into the telly is male and would assume with most English television's too are the same so makes the adapter no good it's strange because the connection into the iPad is a male connection lead to female so should be straight forward to be a male connection to male connection can only assume not for the English Market hope this helps others who wish to purchase.
So because of this can only rate 1 star sorry apple.
    Cheers R.K.

This could be a great piece of kit. However, Apple restrict so much of what the connector works with, it is almost useless.

Wrong info given by sales person at Apple shop!

    • Written by from London

i bought this from the Apple shop in Regent Street before christmas along with an iPod Touch 4. I explained carefully to the sales person what I wanted and how I wanted to use this adaptor. My wife is a EYFS teacher and from the info I was given, she would be able to use the internet, run her iTunes (for phonics etc) Apps and have everything on one device held in her hand. WELL NOT SO! ... it won't mirror any internet and a huge amount of other things .. I wouldn't mind but (a) the advertising doesn't inform you at. In fact it give you the impression you can do ANYTHING and (b) the sales people couldn't even get it right either. I expect much better than this from APPLE .. VERY DISAPPOINTED ... mobile devices such as ipod touch and ipad are having a great impact on teaching at all levels and a simple device like this just doesn't cut the mustard! To be able to use the device this way is a fundamental requirement.

The worst accessory I have ever seen from a manufacturer, it works only on my own pictures and my own movies, certainly can not be used for presentation material. Can not recommend buying it. It must be done better in OS4.3

Not quite what I thought it was

    • Written by from Stockton on Tees

My girlfriend bought this for me from tesco thinking as the name suggests it's a VGA adapter! Got it home and plugged in, hmmmm all I could watch were movies which funny enough were already on my pc ! I was hoping to play games such as angry birds etc. Anyway took it back to tesco and got a refund. Had it stated on the packing plays video only my girlfriend would not have bought it for me. So for the fact it's pretty useless and packaging should warn you what it can and can't do I would give this zero stars. Pity as apple nearly always make top notch stuff!
