Faultless.
Written by CS from Newton Aycliffe

Having had my iMac since January this year, I did have some fear that moving from a Windows based PC would be problematic. This has not been the case.
iLife '09 has been simple to pick up so much so, I could never imagine getting a Windows based PC again.
The iPhoto and iMovie applications are worth the upgrade money alone!34 of 41 people found this useful

Comming from PC to iMac
Written by KC from Glumsø

What an experience to just buy a computer (20" iMac) to a fair price and find that it has what it takes to do what we want for private use right out of the box.
The pro-applications I use for work on a PC mostly run on the Mac as well so I haven't looked at problems this far.65 of 83 people found this useful

I've just upgraded on a G5 1.9Ghz with 512Mb RAM and it works OK... but I have also just ordered a RAM upgrade in order to speed it up.
would definitely recommend.62 of 81 people found this useful

Apple's best software package ever
Written by TS from Tadley
Mar 16, 2009
I use this on a 1.83ghz mac mini and it hasn't put a foot wrong yet. I'm able to edit movies with iMovie with ease and now with almost unlimited features; iPhoto's new features are exactly what you need to organize your photos. GarageBand now has the perfect software amp set for guitars. iWeb is just so easy to use. iDVD still amazing. This is a package that has been thought through and perfected. I'm lucky that i bought my mac mini after January 6th so i got my iLife 09 disc for £7.94. But having used it i would happily pay way more than £79. Easy buy.

Unlocking the ideas
Written by BR from Plymouth
Feb 20, 2009
iLife delivers with excellent added functionality in iPhoto, Garage Band and iMovie. It has kept me busy for hours and fired up loads of new ideas. iMovie especially has that ideal mix of ease of use and sophisticated results. I tried Final Cut and just got bogged down, thinking a just can't do it. With this upgrade, I feel I can and I do and so can the kids !
Excellent product and well worth the money.50 of 55 people found this useful

Very good upgrade, can't wait for next one

iLife 09 is a very good upgrade. I bought it mainly for my use of iPhoto.
When you want to enhance your photos, not only can you use the enhance feature which can sometimes over-cook the results you are looking for but you can adjust & fine-tune exactly how you need them to look even after using the enhance feature. But, almost all photos really come to life and have that quality feel about them.
One thing I must say is I think Mac hurried iPhoto to be ready in time for their launch - a common problem I found was that iPhoto is a little unstable or slow to respond; it may be due to me having over 8,000 photos in iPhoto but I never had an unstable or slow problem with 08. The face detection feature is quite good for people but when it come to animals (and animals have faces too, regular shapes and colours) it just can't recognise any animal faces, of cats at least.
I've yet to become familiar with other iLife features but I'm sure it will be up to the usual Mac standard. Well done Macintosh!!42 of 52 people found this useful

OK but not quite there yet

Cards on the table I'm an iMovie 06 fan. 09 has some great transitions and effects and I've experimented with the audio field. My complaint would be that you can't fade this music in and out with (if at all?) with the ease of use of 06. If you could do that I'd probably be sold on it. However it's early days I will give it a good go until I can get my head around FC HD

imovie 09 is awesome - phew!
Written by IL from Leeds

I, probably like you was concerned after imovie 08. Though I didn't winge about it, I bought Final Cut and used that instead.
Thank heavens for imovie 09. IMO it blows both out of the water. The features are fantastic! I love being able to add comments so I can see which part of the film I'm editing, no more random scrolling and guesswork.
The interface can be tweeked too. So if like me you've been using Final Cut, you can swap the timeline to the bottom, and the events to the top left.
AVCHD works great too. But, as with AVCHD it still needs to import the files in apple intermediate codec (by my reckoning 40GB per hour maybe?).
I also love the face recognition in iphoto.
Amazing package - worth every penny.14 of 17 people found this useful

Disappointed with iMovie!!!!
Written by BJ from London
Feb 8, 2009
I am really disappointed with the imovie section of this new iLife version!!!
iMovie is aimed at people who don't use professional software like final cut... so why does it become increasingly complicated with each new version! iMovie 6 was brilliant! 7 was lame and 8 is even lamer!
GIVE US BACK THE SIMPLE "GARAGEBAND" TIMELINE!!!!
The only thing you should update is more transitions, effects and things we can do! DON'T CHANGE THE LAYOUT!!! The layout is the beauty of iLife!! Garageband, iTunes and iDVD are still the same... WHY DID YOU CHANGE THE IMOVIE LAYOUT????

Very impressive, indeed exciting
Written by PK from Ashtead

iLife '08's major advance was the very nice Final Cut-like editing capability in iMovie. For me, the most impressive enhancements for iLife '09 are with iPhoto. The face recognition feature proved to be a very effective way of grouping images, and is a step on a very exciting journey from searching databases with tags or keywords, to image-based search of multi-media databases. It worked very well for me, with only a small amount of training needed to pull out all the photos of a given person in my library.
The Places feature also works well. The only problem here is that I will need to add in locations for most of the photos I already have. I probably wont have the time to do that, but all new images are going in with locations.
One warning - you will need one of the more up to date machines to benefit, as iMovie especially is very demanding of processing power and memory.172 of 193 people found this useful

If you were happy with 08 then 09 will continue to please !! Faces and Places are just amazing. Faces has become a family spectacle. Even visitors are amazed at the facial recognition technology and the speed of the product.
Well done Apple.172 of 197 people found this useful

Some great new features but iweb fails
Written by RK from Penrith
Feb 4, 2009
iphoto 09- The big hitter is faces which is great fun. A superb idea which works very well occasionally producing some funny results. An excellent upgrade.
imovie 09- Works just like imovie 08 but contains all the features that you wished you had in 08 but were missing. Speed up, slow down, reverse, more transitions and fancy text. I've easily jazzed up a few of my old movies and I'm looking forward to trying the green screen. Another excellent upgrade.
iweb09- Beware iweb 08 users. After installing iweb 09 my much loved and worked on 08 web site went caput. Something which I have not been able to recover from yet. All comments were lost, archives wont work, movies wont upload. If you have an iweb 08 site which is up and running smoothly in my experience, avoid iweb 09 until glitches have been fixed or avoid installing this part of the prog. If you are planning on starting a new site from scratch it may be OK. A huge regret that I upgraded iweb and the reason for the low star count.

I love the new iLife, it is so easy and user friendly. The 'Places' and 'Faces' function in iPhoto is amazing and so easy to setup and do.
iMovie is also a huge amount of fun!!
But the gem for me has to be in Garage Band, the Tutorial of learning to play either the Guitar or Piano is fantatic! I mean, i'm no huge Sting fan, but to have the man teach you himself how to play Roxanne is great!!
I hope that Apple add more artists to the tutorials, because its so easy and i believe worth the money.37 of 42 people found this useful
