It works but expensive for what you get.

The are dozens of bad reviews so I thought I would add my thoughts. I was looking for something to be able to monitor my space while I was away. It does that! I didn't know you are locked into using only one email address for alerts and you can't change it once its set up without creating a new account. This is the reason I dropped my 5 star to a 3. That's a big deal and this should be a feature Philips changes immediately. As for people saying setup doesn't work, it can't connect or extreme lag (buffering) times, this is true and not true. It completely depends on your network. Keep in mind streaming video requires ultra fast network speeds and regardless you will still have some lag time. So yeah you need 1G wifi network (rare) if you expect anything close to real-time feeds. Even tivo, dvrs, netflix etc, have at least a 20 sec delay folks. Not philips's fault that's technology. Also the image is grainy but this isn't a $1k HD video camera. I have no problem viewing remotely with the free account and it works fine with Dropbox 2013. I would also like to have an easy off or standby button in the app rather than having to navigate through the cumbersome and unintuitive app. to manually temporarily turn off settings and manually turn them back on again later. Without this when monitoring indoors it will send you messages and record constantly. This is my second must see request for the next app update. But overall I would say it's a definite yes to buy but you must be realistic about technology. Live streaming hd video like your watching tv, especially over wifi is just not available yet with current technology in.sight or otherwise and certainly don't hold these unrealistic expectations for this Philips device.

Hugely Disappointing - Loaded onto iPad3 with retina display

    • Written by from Barcombe

I really wanted to like this app. My husband is very 'computer savvy' so I was not worried about negative comments re setting it up. The hardware looks good, but the app does not work, it keeps crashing. The screen indicates it is 'live' and the dog that can be seen lying on the ground outside on the screen is actually sitting beside you! The only way to get a 'live' image back is to restart the iPad. The picture quality is also poor.

    Good

I have had this product for a day and it works pretty well within my home office. The only issues I have is the camera lag/delay time but all in all it was well worth the buy.

I will be buying more units in the future.

    Rubbish

It looks good but that's about it. I want something that is easy to install and works. This didn't so I'm sending it back and will be looking for an alternative. Apple - please do something about this product we can't all be wrong!

    Easy

All the negative reviews scared me and I figured the few positive ones were employees. I decided to buy anyway just to see. It was super simple, up and running with no glitch in no time. Alerts work great, 3G works great. I see absolutely nothing to worry about - it works perfect.

Major bug in set up process, badly designed app: app very user unfriendly

    • Written by from Bilthoven

It took me a couple of tries to set this up, but succeeded.

Then I ran into trouble: I had misspelled my email address when creating an "in.sight" account. I tried to correct it, but could't in the app. I then tried to do set the whole thing up from scratch again. The light on the camera turned steady green indicating that the camera was online. However my app was hung at the last step, indicating that it was registering the camera with the service. The camera never showed up in my new account. So after many hours resetting the camera, etc. I gave up and went back and set it up using the old faulty username. That worked. I suspect that attempting to register the camera with the same IP address creates a conflict.

The app itself is cumbersome to navigate. For instance: no explanation to what alert means vs recording into dropbox which then is hidden in a completely different menu. Weird place to keep the "about" and "legal" menus. It also has an empty "URL" field in the update firmware tab: no idea what that is for. Etc.

Almost gave up, but now got it to work.

    Complete garbage

If you are lucky enough to get this work then maybe it is a good product.

But three hours working with Philips support and they don't know what's wrong with their product.

    don't understand bad reviews

    • Written by from Redmond

Right out of the box. Like 10 minutes or less to set up. Don't understand negative reviews so i asked at the store and they told me this one worked just fine. So i bought it and no problem watching the puppy at home and he definitely heard me when i used the audio and i can listen in the area just fine. Takes photos and dumps them to my camera roll just fine. I think some of the bad reviews must be network issues. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this. I already want to add another monitor.

    Don't listen to bad reviews

    • Written by from Worcester

After being broken into while on holiday this has given me piece of mind, you do have to be patient setting it up, i found if i moved the camera to where we were going to place it and not by the router and other equipment that may send confusing signals it was easy to set up, has never lost a signal and i have logged in when away from the house. Last night it alerted me to movement in the garden which had triggered the security light and was only a cat but i can alter the sensitivity so it won't do that. i want another now so i can see who calls at the front door, i highly recommend this to my friends and anyone who wants a simple security system won't go wrong with this.

    Can't even get started.

    • Written by from London

So disappointing. I plug it in, follow the instructions and all I get is a green flashing light and no wi-fi connection. I am going to have to take it back. I would suggest not spending any time on it if it doesn't work first time. I also bought a Belkin remote switch and it worked first time and is amazing. Phillips should call Belkin and learn how to make these things work!

Very unreliable - don't expect any online help....

    • Written by from Bournemouth

This product is really tricky to set up. It just doesn't work reliably. I have a green light on the camera but my ipad thinks the camera is not connected or can't get a video feed. I have reset the camera several times. It has taken hours of my time and it is still not working properly. There is zero information online. The manual is virtually non existent. Philips, get your act together!

Zero support and lots of issues

    • Written by from Kings Hill

These could be really good - the streaming works well and the hardware is nicely designed.

Unfortunately there are too many problems with the software. The new Dropbox support they have recently added just does not work, the motion alerts rarely happen for me, and when they do you don't get an image so you don't know what caused it!

Worse is the support is non- existent! I have tried, email, the web, a button in the app, iTunes and have had no response at all!

Common Philips you can do better than is!

Exactly what is says on the tin . . .

    • Written by from High Wycombe

I think it a little poor show to write a negative review of a product simply because you can't get it to work. I have the dual pack successfully installed, easy set up, with an honest time of about 20 minutes. Motion and Sound sensors take some experimenting with to discover what is too sensitive, but with the ability to "target" specific areas in the cameras field of vision, it stops the nosey cats from next door setting the camera off. Can log into these from anywhere see whats going on at home. Really excellent product for the price, and I am sure Philips have some updates to come to make it better. Ipad App next please. The new web portal is excellent.

    Works well after initial problems

    • Written by from Helensburgh

The cameras arrived, the set up and sync with my iphone was simple and effortless, I could view both cameras via the Philips app while on my local network and I was impressed. The problem came when I left the premises and was no longer connected to my local network, the camera view vanished from my app. I went to the Apple store and they couldn't assit me and could only suggest uninstalling the app, which I did to no avail. They then advised that I contact Philips directly. Philips UK/Europe Live Chat hadn't even heard of this product they gave me a specialist number and even the monitor department couldn't help and knew little of this product. In the end they suggested I call Philips USA, though I opted for their live chat (the cheaper option) After a lengthy online chat and many possibilities gone through I was instructed to change my BT router settings. Though this did not work I did set up a new network using an AirPort Express and after connecting the cameras to this new network they have both functioned perfectly. Maybe a cunning ploy by Apple but BT router appeared to be the problem after all.

An absolute and total rip off!!You better of buying a simple IP camera and get a free app to control it and you can do that for about half the price.
