WARNING: Will Only Run With Administrator Rights!

Written by DG from Bury St. Edmunds

I've just finished an email conversation with EA support and they tell me (and I've confirmed it) that SPORE will ONLY run on a Mac if you login as a user with Administrator privileges. This is such an obviously bad idea that I can't quite work out what EA are playing at frankly - I would only use an Administrator account to do system admin work, never for day-to-day use so I'm now trying to get a refund from EA :-(

    Just utter madnes!

    amazing game

I love this game. It's fresh and different to a lot of games on the market. You start life as a single-celled lifeform and evolve from the sea to the land to the stars! The graphics are brilliant and the imagination behind this is inspiring. The variety of different forms of creatures are almost endless.
I know that EA have copy-protected this game, which a lot of people don't like but but my review is about the game itself and it deserves 5 stars.

Good on PC Bad on a MAC

I tried this game on OSX to begin with and it was really laggy even on LOW settings. I then uninstalled, booted to bootcamp xp and installed on windows xp. This game on the PC runs really well (30fps average on macbook pro).

Also the game comes with ONLY THREE activations. This means you can only install this on 3 different computers. This game also requires the internet even though the game is a single player.

Avoid if a mac user, try if a PC user.

    Be Prepared...

    Written by JC from Manchester

Spore is the latest zany creation to come from Maxis - otherwise known as 'those people who made The Sims'. Not only did this people make The Sims, they also came up with SimCity, allowing you to control not only a family's life, but a city's life. So obviously, their God-Complex not being fulfilled, they've made Spore so now you can conquer planets... and control their lives too.
The gameplay is fairly intuitive, allowing not only the hardcore gamers to understand it, but new players too. The cartoony creations or aliens you make are surprisingly comical, and allow it to be used safely within the family and means that its good for children and adults alike.
However, be prepared for EA's new strict piracy control. The DRM within this title is strangling, and can be fairly noticeable. For starters, people have complained that you do need to be on a administrator account and that you can only install the game on up to 3 computers, and does require constant verification when used online (Which will be often seeing that most of the content is downloadable).

The game can be played offline, but online usage is definently a must have.

In conclusion, a great game to have, but the DRM is a problem that needs to be rectified.

    Buggy!

    Written by PV from Brighton

    Reasons not to buy:
    1. Crashes all the time.
    2. EA only interested in releasing patches for the Windows version (even though the Mac version is actually a Windows app running under some virtualisation system)
    3. Ludicrously restrictive DRM (which they have now removed in the Windows version, but not the Mac - see 2 above)
    4. Almost impossible to launch on a 3GHz iMac (requires much force-quitting to finally persuade it to run) (see 2 above)
