This case is fits the iPad 2 very well, though it appears to be made for the new iPad, so there is a a very slight gap. Nevertheless, the case fits snugly enough. I saw someone using one of these whilst travelling from Jersey to France and asked him about it. I was impressed and immediately went online to buy my own from Apple. I have just bought my wife an iPad 2 (refurb) and intend to buy another of these cases for her. Yes, you do pay a bit more for quality! …

I bought the dark grey version immediately and don't regret it. I was a bit concerned because some reviewers were claiming the iPad 2 didnt fit the case properly but I find it to be a great fit (theres no way its falling out).
It has a soft touch, grippy, feel but it doesn't feel cheap and rubbery. It is very lightweight and slim, which is the main thing for me as I found previous cases to be bulky and heavy.
I really like that the volume and sleep keys are covered by the case and that the case features 'buttons' for them. I always found reaching these buttons abit of a fiddle to get to on previous cases.
My only complaint is I wish they had produced one in black, but the dark grey case does look nice on my black iPad.
Also, I dont find the edges to be particularly sharp as other reviewers have stated, but perhaps I hold my iPad differently.
All in all, very happy! …

Original iPad case was bad. No change.
The original ipad case wouldn't allow you to use a dock because of protruding seams. This new case is just as bad - no worse. Shar The original ipad case wouldn't allow you to use a dock because of protruding seams. This new case is just as bad - no worse. Sharp edges, loose fitting and the plastic welding around the connector hole has started separating. So it is only a matter if time before it falls apart completely. Shame apple corp doesn't spend as much time designing accessories as they do on slick UI. Won't buy an Apple case again. Very poor. …

Not a quality product!
If you decide to spend a few hundred pounds on an ipad retina then you would think a genuine Apple case would protect it? Wrong!! If you decide to spend a few hundred pounds on an ipad retina then you would think a genuine Apple case would protect it? Wrong!!
This case is just awful. It doesn't fit snuggly around the device, It bows out around both sides so essentially the ipad is only held by the top and bottom. The edges of the case are quite sharp so if used for a period of time then it becomes uncomfortable.
I would advise against anyone purchasing this product. Very disappointed. …

Terrible - waste of money

However, this so-called 'Smart' case if far from adequate. At £40, I expect more than 6 months usage from it. The folding design doesn't give enough of a base for the iPad to stand-up on, meaning it's top-heavy and falls over.
The fabric lining has come away from the actual inside bits, so it looks extremely tatty, and offers no screen protection any more. The poly edges have also discoloured and dog-eared. It also shows up so many stains - it's disgusting! I can't imagine what it must look like if it was an unclean person using it!
The case has sagged away from the hinge meaning the magnets no longer line up properly, rendering the automatic on/off function useless. I found that out the hard way when I shut the cover, came back hours later to find the battery had gone dead as it had been on all that time!
The cover leaves streaks of grease on the iPad screen which looks horrid. It also causes more scratch damage than it stops... They way the cover folds back on itself to stand up, means the *inside* of it is standing on the surface. Therefore any grit, dirt, crumbs etc. that are on the surface will stick to the cover, and in turn scratch against the screen on closing. You can tell when this has happened, as the scratches are perfectly straight, and parallel to the edges etc.
The cover doesn't actually provide much protection. A slight tap on the corner of the device caused the screen to crack - something that the cover should really have protected it from.
Then there's the damage it does to the back. Not only a build-up of dirt, but actually rubbing off the silver-coloured anodized back of the iPad. Mine has horrible superficial wears all along the edge, as well as two severely deep gouges that are now almost a black colour.
All in all, I suggest strongly avoiding this case. Go for a cheaper alternative, even if it means replacing it a dozen times! Still be cheaper than this. …
