Overview

The perfect wireless solution for home, school and small business.

Networking icon

Easy wireless networking.

Connect your DSL or cable modem to the AirPort Extreme Base Station, then quickly set it up with the easy-to-use AirPort Utility, which is available as download for both Mac OS X and Windows. In minutes, you and up to 50 others can use your Mac computers or PCs to surf the web, stream video, share photos and more — without wires.1

Dual Band icon

Simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi.

For maximum range and compatibility, AirPort Extreme works simultaneously on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, allowing all the devices on the network to use the most efficient band automatically. It uses the latest 802.11n wireless technology, so you can enjoy up to five times the Wi-Fi performance and up to twice the range of 802.11g wireless networks.2

Guest Networking icon

Guest networking.

Set up a separate Wi-Fi network with a separate password for your visitors. Simply enable the guest networking feature, and your guests can use the Internet but can’t access other parts of your private network, such as your computers, printers and attached hard drives.

Printer icon

Print without wires.

Have several computers in your home or office but only one printer? No problem. Just connect a compatible printer to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme Base Station, and the printer instantly becomes available to all the computers (Mac and PC) on your wireless or wired network. (See system requirements.)

Drive Sharing icon

Share your hard drive.

You can share an external USB hard drive over your wireless and wired networks by simply connecting it to the USB port on your AirPort Extreme Base Station. Called AirPort Disk, this feature is perfect for sharing files and more. If you’re a MobileMe member using a Mac with OS X Leopard or later, you can even access the files on the drive over the Internet.3

Security icon

Strong security and access controls.

Rest easy — AirPort Extreme takes strong measures to prevent unauthorised intrusion into your wireless network. It offers a built-in firewall and supports industry-standard encryption technologies including WPA/WPA2 and 128-bit WEP. Yet it’s still easy for authorised users to connect to the base station, thanks to its simple set-up utility and powerful access controls.

    PERFECTLY BRILLIANT

    • Written by from SOUTHAMPTON

My AEBS has been used very successfully in conjunction with a Vigor 120 ethernet modem. Speeds have improved when compared with my previous equipment and reliability has been 100%. It provides internet access for 1 PC, 1 laptop, 2 Mac minis, 1 MBA, 1MBP, 1 Blu-ray player, 1 TV, 1 Wii, 1 ATV2 and 4 iOS devices, all without any problem whatsoever. I should add that it was staightforward to set up and runs cool (even having been continuously 'on' since purchase). I am very satisfied with the great performance and recommend the AEBS, but do please bear in mind that it needs to be used in conjunction with a modem. More

    Just Works

    • Written by from Knaresborough

Works perfectly well with my ADSL modem which is a BT Homehub. Bought to replace the wireless function of the homehub and outperforms it in every way.

Paired with an Airport Express I now have total coverage in the house and garden.

Very easy to set up too.

    Excellent device!

    • Written by from Romsey

The review above is rubbish as he clearly does not know how to set it up correctly, i have it working with an ADSL and it works brilliantly.

Allows separation of N a G signals which is great if you have a have a range of devices which have different capabilities.

    I would recommend to anyone.

Not quite what it says on the tin!

    • Written by from Hanley Swan

Bought device. Easy to set up. Works with Apple TV, and USB printers. It allows access to USB attached drives BUT can not get it to act as a Time Macine alternative as noted by many others on web forums. It also won't reliably auto mount USB attached diskdrives. Slightly dissatisfied and disappointed as the whole point of the purchase was to wirelessly use a backup disk. More

    Airport Extreeme Base station

    • Written by from Wymondham

Purchased my airport base station a few weeks ago and my initial reactions are as follows.
Set up was easy although some of the more advanced features like hiding your network etc took a bit more digging to find. The main reason I bought the extreme was to use the networked printer capability and to have a better range. Slightly disappointed with the range as it does not seem much better than the Netgear 834gt that it has replaced but the wireless connection so far seems very stable and reliable. However main disappointment is that the printer connection is just that - only a printer. As it happened my canon printer died so I took the opportunity to buy a new AirPrint compatible all-in-one HP 7150. However when this is plugged in to the airport extreme you can't use the scanner or the utility software tools which are not supported with the airport base station Therefore if you want to use an all-in-one printer it will have to remain plugged into your Mac. Finally it seems to gets fairly warm. Overall I am still please with it but it has not quite lived up to my initial expectations and I think it should be clearly stated that you can't use the usb port for an all-in-one printer. More
