Versatile charger and additional computer link!

    • Written by from Glendaruel

Well finished and quality product which provides a variety of options for charging the iPad. The six foot long cable is sturdy and comes with the small adaptor unit. An additional fine cable with USB computer and iPad connections is included to provide another three feet of length. This fine cable is identical to the one that comes in the box when you buy the iPad so it is a handy spare to have. I bought the product from the on-line Apple UK store and it arrived with the proper UK 13amp plug fitted. A small, straightforward instruction booklet is included to show the connection options. 10W adaptor should be available on its own!!

    • Written by from Milltimber

My main gripe is that for anyone with other reasonably recent Apple products the only part actually required is the small power adapter itself but you can't buy it separately.
i.e. the USB cable, extension cable and plug are all potentially unnecessary. What's more for the price they could have at least included continental and US adaptors as well - £26 is a lot of money for what you get.

I presume the smaller Apple USB adapter Model No. A1299 (5W) can be used for charging the iPAD but would be slower however this is a much more compact unit and can easily be used with an extension cable to give the extra length.

Apple should be selling the 10W adaptor as a stand alone option for those that have the other items included in the box as part of their other Apple purchases.

    A much better charger

    • Written by from Workington

After purchasing an iPad and then struggling to find somewhere in very close proximity to a power point to charge the iPad, I decided to purchase the Apple iPad 10W USB Power Adapter.

Now I have over 6 feet of reach from the power point to charge my iPad up, which for me is so much better than using the supplied iPad charger.

You can use the Apple iPad 10W USB Power Adapter to charge other products such as iPhone (I use the Apple iPad 10W USB Power Adapter to charge my iPhone), iPod.

Why Apple supply a charger with a 3 ft cable is beyond me. Surely Apple could bundle all of their products with a charger with a 6ft cable length, its not much to ask considering the cost of Apple's products.

    Mine Exploded!

    • Written by from Swinton

Prior to going to sleep I plugged in my iPad and settled down for some good Zs..... Just drifting off and....BANG! A massive blue spark came out of the USB port on the power adapter and it was fried! Luckily my iPad was fine and I had a spare charger which came with my iPhone.
Why 5 stars you ask? Well, I took it into the Apple store in the Trafford Centre and explained the story, they replaced the whole lot minus the dock connector USB cable! Sweet as!
Just be careful when plugging it in! I think the instructions detail fully assembling it before plugging in and I'm not sure whether I did that or not - either way you have been warned!

Should be part of boxed items

    • Written by from Morden

In the UK power points are mostly at or near ground level. If I hadn't thought to get this at the same time when I bought my iPad I would have been sooooo frustrated once I got home and tried to charge it while immediately wanting to use the thing.
The 1.8 m length extension cable should be sold separately for cheaper, you don't need the whole thing. Plus the outside of the box should tell you how long the length is. None of the Regent Street Apple shop assistants could tell me how long it actually was, everyone was guessing. The connector between the extension cable and the cable that plugs into the iPad becomes very hot while charging. For the price and the redundant section that one needs to buy which already comes with the iPad, I think it only warrants 3 stars. Just one more little frustrating thing about the iPad that detracts from the good aspects of it and removes a little of the joy from the purchase. Sigh.

    Lots in the box

Considering the USB lead alone is £15 and this sells for £25 it seems a good buy. I got bad advice in the Gateshead store about if it would charge Ipod and iPhone (it does, of course). Each source of info has a slightly different list of compatible devices. More
