Final Cut Studio Upgrade
Excellent

I have to disagree with the previous review, I have several book shelves full of previous FCS and FCP manuals with never a page turned, It may add to the sense of value to have these weighty tomes included but for the vast majority they are rarely referenced, with masses of online content I feel Apple has made a good call on this occasion.
And an excellent upgrade to boot. …More12 of 13 people found this useful

Final Cut Studio Upgrade
Upgrade surprise
Written by DO from Tuam

The fact that both the base price of the full product had dropped and that the upgrade price looked very attractive means that the folks at Apple seem to appreciate that market share, particularly in these difficult times, means that movement is necessary.
The upgrade (from Final Cut Studio 2) worked flawlessly on a Summer 2008 17" MacBook Pro, 2.6 Intel Duo, 4GB RAM, 500GB 7200 rpm HDD non OEM and native HD 1920 Apple upgrade option graphics display. Total upgrade install time was more than 2.5 hrs and forgivingly the machine was busy doing plenty of other simultaneous processing.
For me the changes with compressor are very useful, being able to set a job running from within FCP without then stopping me doing more editing. Sure there were ways around this, but I didn't understand why it was slightly onerous. Well done Apple for providing a useful alternative work flow for single compression jobs.
I do however wish that Apple had stuck with their previous excellent PRO product boxed documentation. Whilst acknowledging that docs were also provided as PDFs, it was great to purchase a product that had got really great printed manuals in the box. Unfortunately not so with this release. The tiniest of manuals which only referenced one of the product suite - Final Cut Pro.
For those who don't know, Final Cut Studio 3 comprises of a suite of applications (many), one of which is the actual editing package, Final Cut Pro 7. The printed manual is only for the editing program and there is no printed documentation for the hugely important additional packages. This is unfortunate and thus I do not rate the 5 stars which this product should enjoy.
