    Like most purchasers of devices like this, I bought it to store mission-critical data. It is therefore reasonable to expect that it will perform to specification and, in the case of a single apparent drive failure, to gracefully notify the user. Not so. Since purchase, this devices has regularly disconnected itself from the host machine, refused to shut itself down on the power button (requiring the plug to be pulled) and, having indicated a failed drive, has locked up so completely that even after a cold restart (another plug pull) the alarm just goes off again immediately. When it works, this is a spectacularly fast product, but the basic design and QA appear to be fundamentally flawed. …More

    Fast, Fab but Flawed

    FAST. Sorry I can't give you hard numbers, I use the setup in my business enviroment and this thing is so fast it appears seamless. I've coupled it with a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 with a solid state drive so this is what you would expect!

    FAB. The unit housing is solid, set up was easy and there was a note inside the box to make sure you have the latest Thunderbolt download installed. It took 7 hours to do an initial auto configuration, so I ran the unit overnight.

    Iv'e chosen the Raid5 recommended configuration on the 12TB unit. giving 10TB of usable storage

    FLAWED. No instruction manual. As a 10 Apple user we have got used to there minemalist approach, and truth be known Apple is so intuitive it works. However the unit although fairly easy to set up lacks a much needed user manuel for the Promise Utility software that comes with the unit. Great gui to look at but what does it all mean?

    Then the killer, suddenly after 4 days of use the unit ejected itself from the computer. It just disapeared and couldn't be found. Checked the Thunderbolt cable and power supply. The unit looked OK lights all normal but it wasn't talking to the computer!

    Restarted the computer and Drive and it just reappeared, the Utility said I had disconnected and restarted in a illegal way. I've run for another week with no further problems. I'm hoping the problem is a one off and that a further software download gets a permanent fix.

    Would I still recommend the product? You bet, it's a remarkable piece of kit but a basic manuel would benefit the owner experience. And Apple need to resolve the problem of a disappearing unit, I say Apple because I suspect the issue lies in the Thunderbolt connection rather than the Pegasus unit itself.     …More
