The Companion 5 multimedia speaker system is engineered to deliver the excitement of surround sound content right at your computer. Just two small speakers and a hideaway Acoustimass module deliver much of the audio performance you'd expect from a five-speaker surround sound system. A single USB connection is all it takes - no special software, hardware or sound card upgrade necessary.*
The TrueSpace surround digital processing circuitry enables two elegant desktop speakers and a compact module to put you in the middle of the action. The soundstage seems to envelop you. And the experience is developed especially for computer listening, so you're right in the middle of the music, the game, the special effects.
Magnetic field is essentially confined inside the speakers and will not cause monitor interference or damage to magnetic media such as audio cassette tapes. With the Dual inputs you can enjoy two audio sources simultaneously - one to your computer, the other to a portable audio device.
The Companion 5 system features a handy, all-in-one control pod to keep speaker volume control, single-touch mute, headphone jack and an auxiliary input all within easy reach. Speakers are mounted on stands enabling superb performance and more usable desktop space.

Companion 3 vs Companion 5
Companion 5 adds depth to the sound which Companion 3 lacks off. It makes a huge difference to listening to music and movies.

The desktop speakers look great and have a good spread of sound. The bass unit is quite big, but I have mine tucked away under the desk and out of site.
If you go for something with a bit of va va voom about it, such as "War machine -ACDC" or "Whole lotta love - Led Zepplin" you get a real sense of the balance between the massive bass unit and the desktop speakers.
The sound is very impressive for the money.
The control "puck" is brilliant too, a simple touch on/off and a volume ring that allows you to really annoy the neighbours. It goes very LOUD if you want it to.
I'm glad I went the extra and got these over the 3. …

I had the day to myself so set them both up and was able to switch instantaneously between the two. To cut this short I found the Bose to have slightly clearer/crisper vocals and punchier bass. But the way it integrates the sub into the satellites is quite poor and the sound from the sub is very directional if you have it to the side of your desk (as I have to). It isn't the end of the world, but it stops them being worth £300 if you have to set up in this way.
The Sound Sticks, whilst not quite as crisp and punchy, integrate the sub far better and the sound from the low end is not directional at all. As such I kept the Soundsticks as the Bose were 3 times the price and far from perfect. Personally, I also think the Bose products are starting to look a bit dated.
If you can position the sub in front of you, then its a slightly different matter. But bear in mind the Sound Sticks are a third of the price if you shop around, and they are more than adequate for the average user.
All the best …

Only the Best!
As with all BOSE products, the quality is extremely high and is matched by the deep, rich sounds you get from any BOSE audio produ As with all BOSE products, the quality is extremely high and is matched by the deep, rich sounds you get from any BOSE audio product. No need to use any equalizer programs for your music playback as the system handles all that and plays back with clear and concise audio. The Base speaker is VERY 'basey' and I have found I had to turn it down to about level 4 for fear of vibrating my house down! If you do turn up the volume, you will not get any of the speakers to vibrate/ distort sound at all, unlike my windows when I tried it!
I did have a defective control 'pad' where the headphone socket only played in one ear. I contacted BOSE customer services by e-mail.........30 minutes later they were on the phone to me asking me to pop the control pad into the store where they opened up a new Companion 5 and exchanged it straight away. Now, if that isn't customer service, I don't know what is! (OK, they could have popped it round!)
I would recommend this product to anyone who can afford it and anyone who loves to listen to music. If you can't afford this product, at least go for the Companion 3! …

This top of the range BOSE system is one of the best, if not the best, computer speaker systems on the market and is great value f This top of the range BOSE system is one of the best, if not the best, computer speaker systems on the market and is great value for money. I really like the reliability that the wired connections provide and am a big fan of the simple USB computer connection. The speakers come with one of the easiest to follow instruction manuals I have seen in a long time and linking the bits together is extremely simple. The software linkage to my iMac was straightforward.
The sound the system produces is sublime. I love my music and my old favourites have been greatly refreshed with the Companion 5. The source of the music is irrelevant. It might be iTunes, Spotify, or online radio via my Radium App. Movie watching has been similarly enhanced. The system does wonders with the soundtracks. Again the source is irrelevant.
Apart from the minimalist good looks, and solid construction quality, I appreciate being able to adjust the Bass and adore the neat wired control hub. It is delightful to use, is very sensitive to the touch and lets you easily connect a set of headphones if you want private listening.
If you seek an excellent computer sound system, be sure to check out the Companion 5. …
