    Version 3 and still buggy

Written by CB from NEW YORK

    30-Sep-2009

Two days and it's already crashed and corrupted my data several times. It happens whenever I'm editing the data of individual records within a smart collection. If I change any of the data to something outside of the initial search criteria (which often needs to be done), the program either freezes or crashes and restarts with the data corrupted. A call to tech support had me on hold for 35 minutes before I gave up. Guess I just can't use smart collections yet--the feature is just not ready for prime time.

As I said in an earlier review, until and unless they can fix major bugs like this, I don't think they should be charging owners of previous versions to upgrade. Apart from these kinds of problems, it's very useful, so I'm giving it three stars.

    Still Needs better Printing ability

    Written by VL from Zeeland

    1-Oct-2009

Downloaded it yesterday . . New Features look good . . . Very Glad they wised up
and are only charging an "update" fee for current owners - unlike version 1 to 2!

I would give it 5 Stars - if they had improved the printing of records - don't see
a change in that area - it would be nice to print a record and get the whole thing
instead of only the information seen on the screen. Example - record fields that
have a scroll bar because of the size of the field - print the whole record!

Other than that for me - I think it is a GREAT Update!!! - Keep listening to your users!

    Great New Version

Written by AA from Half Moon Bay

    1-Oct-2009

I love the new password protection/encrypted field, a necessary features since I keep all of my web sites, logins, passwords and account# in Bento. The iPhoto stuff is cool and makes Bento fun. I use it for Travel, wine events, my kids stuff, and most importantly my to-dos that I sync to my phone with Bento iPhone.

Thanks Bento for continuing to make my life more organized.

Does not really do the Basics well.....

    Written by LK from Gilbert

    3-Dec-2009

I would expect a data base software to be able to do some very basic things.. such as: Club Member List (in the format you desire)..then, Club Member mailing list labels (does not, unless I am missing something, do either of these tasks).... then, listing of club members and their current status and paid dues.. (again, unless I am missing something, have not found a way to do these simple tasks). I would suggest that you consider using a Spreadsheet software to do such tasks or a full package data base (I am not sure what one would use Bento for actually) .......... 'Numbers' from Iworks seems to be a good possible solution and works flawlessly with our Macs....... More

Don't expect to create custom lists

    Written by SS from Chicago

    19-Nov-2009

I bought this pre-installed on my new mac book and it was a complete waste of money.

For example, in one form I'd like to create a list of urls with associated usernames and password hints. No such luck. If I create multiple url fileds, a url list is automatically genterated (it won't even let me rename it), but I can't add my own fields to associate with the url.

So with any Bento genterated list (i.e. messages) you can't add any custom fields. Only with the simple list, which only takes text. For me, this software is useless.

One final word of advise, Apple doesn't allow any returns on software once it's been opened or installed, so if you are going to buy it, I'd buy it somewhere else.

Bento 3 does it for us

Written by TG from High Point

    3-Nov-2009

Pleased with Bento 3 so far. Have not used other versions as changed to Mac in March 09. Needed something for wine inventory and this does the trick. Easy import from our PC databases for various projects. Have not had any of the problems others have mentioned but do agree that would be nice to have everything print completely - not just screen view. So far - we are very happy with the purchase. More

Yes, an Appleworks 6 database will import in Bento 3. I have only two days experience with Bento and it worked for me on Day 1.

While in Appleworks, go to File > Save As.
In the File Format pull-down menu, select ASCII Text. Name your file, and make sure you include a lower case .tsv extension on your file name.

Now open Bento. Choose File > Import > File and select that file you just created with the lower-case .tsv extension. Once it's imported, take some time to review whether your Bento fields are to include text, dates, numbers, etc.

Really, it was quite slick, and my Appleworks database (which I loved) is now ready for the 21st century.
