Nice Idea, speakers/iPod Dock
Written by JP from Mesa

I have used these speakers for a month now, and really like them. I used a y cable from the headphone out to integrate a sub with them. They sound good on their own, but with the addition of a sub, they sound fantastic. I didn't think I would ever use the iPod as a source while docked, but find myself doing so quite a bit. Keeps me from having itunes open, and using the remote makes it an easy process. They match the new IMac, and even have removable grills.
Pros: See above
Cons: There is a little hum, or feedback while syncing, so I either shut them off, or ignore for that short process. The sync button is on the back of the left speaker. A better design would have put it on the front. The blue led on the front is a little bright.
Overall, a very nice addition. …More118 of 129 people found this useful

Great sounding speakers

Love these speakers! I'm ordering my second pair today. My kids are hooking these speakers up to their TV and also charging & playing their 2nd generation I-touch. They love the docking cradle and the ability to control their music with the remote control. They are not hooking these speakers to computers so I can't comment on syncing performance. …More

Awesome! Now charge, play & SYNC all-in-one!!!

Excellent compatibility with my iPhone 3G 16G (FYI firmware 2.2.1) in sense of charging, SYNCing & playing at the same time. No buzzz with incoming calls!!! Though you cannot answer the phone when docked ;)
In package: 2 speakers, 1 USB cable for SYNC, 1 power AC, 1 Aux-in&out, 1 S-Video(???) cable to connect 2 speakers, 3 iPhone/iPod adaptors. Set up & set back, no surprise!
Speakers performance good, though seem slightly behind JBL on-stage series. Easy-to-use remote, don't have to directly point to the speaker. No need to touch iPhone for exploring iPod function.
Sum up, excellent desktop gadget, good value for money! Enjoy! …More101 of 115 people found this useful

Sound has poor quality and clarity. These are not worth the money spent for them. I am returning these tomorrow.

To DJ
Written by SW from Benicia

You either work for Altec Lansing or simply have no idea what the terms "Form & Function" mean.
Do you want your Mac to blow up delivering 15 watts to a pair of speakers? "Nest of wires"? There's In, Out, and a Power cord plug-in. What are you talking about? By the way, a sync button on the front is a bad idea. You really don't want to hit that accidentally when meaning to power on or off. Seriously. I'm all to sure there was a user/developer discussion about it. Finally, the design matches MacBooks perfectly and works with every gen iPod and iPhone imaginable. I ran these speakers through their paces at the Apple Store in SF and they performed exceedingly well.
Giving these speakers a one star just the break the curve is not only a mistake, but completely irresponsible. …More14 of 15 people found this useful

Verry unAPPLE
Written by DJ from Brampton

Sound is OK - better than the built in Apple speakers but the connection and interface is where these speakers really dim.
Although they plug into a hot USB port they require a separate power source. A mini-jack connected to the Mac's headphone output and an umbilical cord connects the left & right speaker together. All told there is a massive collection of 4 wires running back and forth behind your computer.
Although there is a USB connection there is no interface with your computer to control any function of these speakers and to sync your iPod you must navigate through the nest of wires on the rear of the left speaker to find a small button in the middle of this cluster. (Why is this feature not on the remote? - or even on the front of the right sided "Master Controller" speaker along with the power and volume buttons?)
All told speakers like this are not what we in the Mac world have come to accept as standard practices of form and function... I strongly believe that products such as this should not even be offered in the Apple Store..
