Great sound in a small package.

I just upgraded my old JBL computer speakers to the JBL Creature III and I am very satisfied. However, for some reason they do not seem as loud as my last pair, but the bass and clarity has improved alot. I also like how the bass and treble control knobs are placed right in front for easy access. I would definitely recommend these speakers to anyone looking to buy new computer speakers. They are well worth the extra money; you will not be disappointed!

    Great speakers for imac

Just bought these speakers for my 27" imac. The built-in speakers of the imac are decent, but these little creatures blow them away. For just under 100 bucks, its perfect for those that want an upgrade in sound. The subwoofer provides a nice kick without distortion. Some may not like their unique look, but having a mac is all about being a little different, and these little bad boys fit right in.

To the comment below mine which states that the Treble and Bass knobs are backward, they are not. I am looking at mine right now... I have seen that EXACT comment in multiple places and, although true for the older models, it is not the case for the new ones. Even if they were, who cares... Still, these are great speakers for what they are. Great thick and punching bass with crisp highs and clear mids. Certainly better than my 5 year old Harman/Kardons... A great buy and highly recommended!

I just bought these at the APPLE STORE 14th st. I had researched them and also checked out the reviews here on this page. I was blown away by their sound at the store and had to have them. Upon bringing them home and setting them up, I was blown away again. These babies sound even better than my home speakers ( BOSE ). I was planning on getting the HARMON KARDON SOUNSTICKS, but when I saw these I changed my mind. Not to mention these are more reasonably priced than the HK SS. A good value. I would recommend these to anyone.

I have to say, these are a decent set of speakers, if it were based only on looks, it'd be 5/5. The sound is clear and the bass is nice, where they do start to lack is when you crank them up to ear splitting volume. At near max levels, the sound tends to distort, but for med/high its rich a clear. Definitely worth $100

    excellent for the price

I hooked these up to my TV as a cheap alternative to a surround sound system and I think they sound great! My living room is fairly small, so maybe that's why it's more than enough to fill with sound, but they're good enough for me especially considering the cost difference to a Bose system or something else like that. The bass is good too.

Bought this marvel some hours ago and I should admit that I love these babies! The sound is crisp.. wonderfully loud with no distortion (well.. I don't hear any). For someone who was looking for a 5.1 surround I'm certainly not disappointed with this 2.1!

    Great Sound

By way of full disclosure, I do not push these speakers by any stretch. And, I have the sub jammed by my feet, with the satellite speakers placed about 2 feet apart on the top of my desk. So my deployment is not one of an audiophile.

That said, even at low volumes with suboptimal deployment, the speakers provide rich, full sound.

Dings on the speakers are the master volume buttons, which do not provide much feedback when pushed, and from my very limited testing, it does not seem like the top end volume is very high.

All-in-all, though, an excellent speaker set that is well worth the price.

For what you pay these are great!!

I just got my JBL Creature III speakers and I already love them!! Once I hooked them up I didn't stop playing music all day long. The bass is strong but not overpowering while the treble is just right. The subwoofer and satellite speakers are all perfect sizes to fit on your desk. Each unit is made out of plastic so they are very light. All of the cords are good lengths so you can hook up your speakers without having to stretch or use an extra power strip. As a whole the system is slick looking and good sounding. For what you pay I would highly recommend these speaker. Before I purchased the Creatures I was looking at the Sound sticks but I am happy that I saved my money and went with the Creatures instead. I tested the Soundsticks in the apple store and for what you pay I was not blown away. However these are truly wonderful!! If you are unsure whether you should buy them or not...you definitely should!!!

    Great little speakers

These are great little speakers. As noted by others, the mid-range can be weak on a lot of music, but you can fix this via EQ. As for the treble and bass controls that others have commented on, here's the explanation: If you view the controls from ABOVE (they then look like the knobs on your car's stereo) then if you twist them clockwise, they do increase the bass and treble, just as you'd expect. I think the confusion arises because when viewed straight-on, turning the knobs in this direction (i.e. clockwise) means that you're the front of the knob is moving from right to left -- or, towards the "minus" (-) label on the front of the speaker. Confusing design, to put it charitably (Good design should never confuse the user -- see any Apple product...). So, yes, the knobs work properly, if you imagine yourself viewing them from above.

Pretty Good, Could have better bass

I just purchased these speakers a few hours ago, the sound quality is great for a system at this price, the volume is loud when you turn up the speakers to their maximum volume, the bass at high levels is distorted which is somewhat annoying, but in this price range it is fairly good if not at the highest level of bass, overall I would give this 5 stars for anyone who does not need an insanely expensive system for heavy listening

I'm in college and own a macbook and wanted some great speakers for at home and in my apartment at college. These speakers are perfect for laptops. You can immediately tell the difference between your stock laptop speakers and these speakers. I recommend these to any person who wants relatively inexpensive speakers that will improve your music listening experience.

these are absolutely incredible. i got lucky one day by meeting an apple employee who is really into music and he ignored all my flashy desires and took me straight to these. after reviewing for another few weeks, i walked in and bought them, and the apple employee that i worked with on this day said, "you know good speakers."

    Small Package, Big Presence

I downgraded from 4.1 to 2.1, but what these speakers lack in surround, they make up in clarity and simplicity. My treble/bass knobs are reversed as well, but it really makes no difference.

Touch both buttons to mute, one is up and one is down. It seems like (with the power button on the woofer) these speakers aren't meant to be turned off regularly. They sure have quite the tight response. Sharp, crisp sounds with an impressive low bass presence. Mid tones seem to be lacking a little (with a big woofer and small satellite speakers, it would tend to..)

I don't know about filling my room with great audio, but for sitting at my desk and listening at acceptable levels, these are great!
I do miss my physical on/off button and front/back volume knobs from my 4.1, but I'm happy with the creatures!

    Flimsy Construction

The JBL Creature III speaker system was a disappointment when taking into consideration the first 'version' of them, the original white ones were far superior in construction and sound. JBL has cheapened the quality and kept the same price.

I just recently bought a MacBook Pro. I was considering the Clear Sound Stick speakers and Subwoofer but the price was a bit much. Then, the specialist recommended these. I was happy with the price. When I tested it out, it had amazing sound for such small speakers. They are perfect for a laptop. I also enjoy the design of the product as well.

Well, what to say...JBL has NEVER steered me wrong with any of their products - from the Onstage IIIp to Professional PA Speakers...JBL knows what's up.

I love my Creature II's and, not that I'm surprised, the Creature III's are just as good (and a tad bit smaller). For the money these speakers are perfect...they look great with my new iMac, they're original in style and they're easy on the ears.

Thanks to the Apple Online Store for being the first to carry these bad boys and thanks to JBL for releasing another great product!
