very good sound, poor quality desing

the sound is fantastic, no doubt. the device is worth the money.
However, at this price the connection dock should have been a bit more solid. both my 3G and 4 are difficult to dock and sometimes don't charge. try the B&O device and it is rock solid.

i have the portable unit, which is great, but half the times when i take the unit with me, I forget the remote. unbelievable that the folks at Bose did not think of a slot to insert the remote in or some other way to assure the owner brings it with. so for sound 5 stars, for design 1.

ive had this speaker for over a year and was happy until i moved into a three floor (plus basement) open concept house. in order to fill the house with sound i must turn it up all the way and i think i blew the speakers. i will be upgrading to the bigger model for $649 and see how i like it

Does not charge my Ipod touch

Very disappointing to find out that my new Ipod touch does not get charged in my Bose dock and, if it has the cover on, does not fit in it. I read that the Ipod touch has a USB entry instead of the firewire my old Ipod has, that is why it does not charge. It would be nice if Apple would inform us, its costumers of these changes. Not what I am used to get from Apple.

    Good Product iffy docking

Great sound on this docking station. I have a concern with the Ipod's mounting port, I found that as I scrolled thru some app's and songs that I pushed the Ipod back and the contacts were compromised to the extent that the sound did not come thru properly. Concern I have is will the port become stretched out to the point of it being too loose to make proper contact. My unit is brand new and that was the first thing I noticed. Perhaps as I become more familiar with the remote this will not be an issue.

    Decent Sound for the Price

For $300 you could get better sound from the iHome iP1 or for less money you can get better clarity of sound from the JBL 400P. The Bose SoundDock isn't bad by any means...but simply isn't worth the price. While I do agree that Bose produces the "warm" sound that many consider to be good, it is simply an over amplification of the bass. Bose has always made all their products pretty bass heavy (perhaps too much) by sacrificing the clarity of the mid to high range sounds. The crispness of the vocals or the snare drums, acoustic guitars, etc are all muddled with the Bose SoundDock. The distortion of the sound is pretty prevalent as well at higher volumes. On top of that, they don't allow you to change the balance of the sound so you're stuck with what you get. While it is simple to use, like I said before, no adjustments can be made. Other products are more versatile in this manner where sound can be fine tuned to your liking or WiFi, radio, etc is available. So overall, Bose SoundDock is ok...but for the price there are many other better options.

perfect sound.. problem with ipod integration

I absolutely love the sound this unit puts out and it doesn't matter if you use it as soft background music or an aggressive sound thumper. The sound always seams to be perfect. Only on really loud deep music can you begin to hear the annoying base "pop" which is only at peak sound capacity, but it seams be quite adequate of filling a small sized home such as mine with more then enough sound.

Now to the bad side of this unit....I'm not sure if its only me that has had this problem but as for the ipod, It keeps freezing... its very annoying its happened on many occasions, Im not sure what Im doing wrong.. Im sure its not the ipod because I have used it on many other devices and this is the first device that has given me any grief.. After approx. one hour using this system the music stops dead you remove the ipod and its just like you paused it.. you can hard reset the ipod but sometimes it doesn't work, and you have to let the screen stay on full and wait for the battery to drain down... I can see this being a real problem. I've only had the system a week and have had to hard reset the ipod 4 times. Its almost like the Bose dock is overcharging the ipod which causes it to screen freeze.

So I don't understand why their aren't more complaints about the remote's ridiculous lack of functionality.

Basically, it only scrolls through the playlists!?!?!?!

I spent 250 on the iPod (160 GB Classic) because I have a huge CD collection, well over 2000 CD's.

Then I spend 300 dollars on the Sounddock II, only to find out it is basically designed for a child.

Pros: Much smaller than I thought, good sound (though the bass is a bit too much on some performances, and the treble tones shake sometimes), light weight, and sleek.

CONS: How on earth can any engineer justify designing a product like this for the presumed serious music lover with such limited functionality? You can't scroll through the Albums, Cover Flow, Composer, Artist. Nope. None of those options. Playlist only, which means more of the precious hours of your life wasted in iTunes organizing.

    Unbelievable.

    My first review.

If your a serious music collector, it doesn't deserve all the brouhaha every is blathering about, imo.

I know that Bose is an amazing name, but still for $300 its not worth it. The need to bring the price down to around 150 or at least 200. Then more people would by them. I ended up returning mine and buying a sony one for $100, and the quality is just as good, if not better.

    Lower Your Expectations

One of the better sounds in this price range but Bose is not what it used to be. Lower your expectations for this $300+ product and you'll be pleased but do your homework and try it out for yourself, if the short comings are livable for you then spend the $300+

    It's better than most. . .

but I was hoping for a home run - and I didn't get it. It has no equalizer/bass/treble control. In fact it has no controls on it at all (you can use your EQ control on the iPhone). When you mount your 3G, iPhone says the device is not compatible with it. The remote control is very small - be careful where you leave it.

I was hoping for the concert hall sound of the Bose Wave system - but was disappointed. HOWEVER, it does stand above all other 3rd party sound systems I've used for my iPod or iPhone.

I didn't dislike it enough to send it back - but I'm looking for the next great sound system for the iPhone.

    Just another docking station

Although it's better then those big, old fashion sound systems- it has it's flaws.
The sound qualityt is bad, and it seems like look weird with the colorful, smaller iPod's in it, but that's just my girliness talking out.
But, my biggest problem with it is that I need something that will play CD's. I may have have over 320 songs on my iPod, but that's not all of my favorite music.
But, if you don't mind less then great sound quality & if all of your music is on your iPod, it won't be too bad for you.

Sound quality is very nice but...

It can be glitchy. The first Sounddock ii I got a few days ago made a loud popping sound and turned it's volume down. After about an hour of trying everything, calling customer service at Bose, the unit burned out and would not turn on anymore. Now I have another one. It's better but still has a few pops still and also the Iphone 3G I've been using with it stopped responding to the bose remote once so far. I put the phone in airplane mode and that seems to help with the popping but it's too soon to tell. I have the first generation Iphone and it works fine on it. So I don't know if this is ready for 3G yet. But I must say it sounds great and Bose customer service was very quick to get me a new Sounddock ii. It has good bass though it has a limited lower range of notes that it can hit. In fact the cut-off point is quite abrupt. It feels like the lowest notes are missing from your songs! But don't worry, it goes pretty low.

    Hifi really?

    • Written by from Singapore

I don't actually own this sounddock but I had the opportunity to use it while I was staying at the Royalton. The sound was anything but hifi. The sounddock itself vibrates too much, creating tons of awful resonances. It kinda sounds like an average clock radio to me. With that being said, I do like the portability of it and the design maybe because it is hardly original. Nothing about it speaks high quality or hifi. It's kinda cheap and nasty for what you get at this price.

Amazing sound, but irregular glitchy noise?

For it's size, this thing sounds fantastic. Obviously you won't get booming bass, but you'll be surprised how much you do get from such a small set of speakers. The design is easy on the eyes and I thought it'd look great on my bedside table. Sadly, I noticed that my iPhone 3G made a horribly loud noise about every 10 minutes. It sounded like a loose wire being wiggled. I'm going to take it back and try another one, but possibly it's my phone. Otherwise I'd give this 5 stars.
