    Not That Great but OK

Purchased these today, i have many other Bose products and assumed that these would be as good. They are OK but do not sound as good as the Demo unit at the store, definitely missing the sound of Bass unless i am missing something!!!

Was looking for a sound-bar speaker instead, but came home with these, not too sure if i will keep them yet......

Too Much Bass for My High Rise Apartment

    • Written by from San Francisco

I live in a pre-war high rise apartment building in San Francisco made of concrete and NOT sound proof. If I just have these up just above listening level I hear banging from the neighbors. I also have a Bose Sound Dock 9 (the largest one) I can't even use that one in this building as I have already got a noise warning from the landlord. I once had my own condo and was not renting so there is the dilemma. I wish Bose would put a bass modulator or control on these bad boys.....love the bass....but some do not.

    Decent, but not the best

Decent enough speakers. Doesn't really hit the high notes, or the low ones, but that's what I expect from Bose. They are much better than any built in sound, but for the price you can find better speakers.

    Not all I imagined

The speakers are aesthically pleasing, nice rubber feet and a good solid feel out of the box, after that I was less than thrilled. The sound quality is good at a low to medium volume, but the impressiveness ended there. About 3/4 through the volume dials range the volume did not change at all. The sound began to fluctuate and flutter about and the quality of sound dropped off. I was looking for a set of speakers that could provide some volume to a large living room, but I wouldnt recommend these speakers for that purpose. They are an excellent set of speakers for your computer or small office and or bedroom. I returned this product and upgraded.

not what i expected from bose

I did get these for free from apple but I got these because they were bose. They dont sound great...they just sound ok....I still use my logitech speakers because they sound better. Of course the logitech speakers have a subwoofer and the bose do not. Anyway I think there are probably better speakers than these.

Good Sound Quality, but it feedbacks

While these Bose speakers do a good job of bringing a rich sound from the iMac I have them attached to, they cannot handle any other electrical devices being in the area. They start to feedback when left idle. I was not expecting this and have concluded I would buy a better set of speakers later.

    Bose Companion 2 Series

The Bose Companion 2 Series are good. The price was right. I use them for my Mac Book Pro laptop. The sound quality is excellent if you have the volume at the mid to max when listing to music or watching a movie. When the speakers are played at a low volume there is some static through the speakers, but not very evident unless you are listening very closely. Overall great and there were cheaper than my Bose headsets go-figure!

    Sound rendering

I just want to react to someones comment : "The audio quality is swell and can be turned up very loud without damaging the sound quality. "

This is false since there is an electronic control witch "removes" the loudness when the speakers are pushed a little. While listening to pop music at medium volume, soft parts of the songs will be given a lot of bass while hardcore parts of the songs will be mid-high, without bass. This is what I call "damaging the sound quality".

If you just want to listen to music at low volume, than it's a good choice (considering there's no tweeters).

I bought two of these. The first pair I had problems with a connection to one speaker being faulty and cutting out. The pair were eventually worthless. The new version of these with a nicer style came out and I bought those thinking the problem with the first pair was just a fluke. The second pair emitted a buzzing noise periodically. These were used with a PC I had. When I switched to the iMac I let them go with the PC. The sound is very good but not recommended if you really have to have a lot of base. But for me they had decent base and not having to deal with having a sub woofer is what I wanted. They look nice. I can't really say how these compare to anything else. It may be that these are overpriced being the name Bose and that there are much better speakers out there. I just ended up getting into Bose many years ago but am finding that maybe they're not all there're cracked up to be. I wouldn't purchase these again and would think much harder before buying any Bose going forward.

The base is great. The sound is crisp. The volume is just not there! I live in an apartment and the neighbors will never complain. I wanted a little more umph. I teach dance and wanted to take to class but this will never work. These speakers would be great in a small office.

    Works Fine For Price..

I have had these for about 2 months now and i can say that I'm pretty satisfied. They look great with my iMac 20" and are small enough. The only problem I face is that there will be a weird buzz/fuzzy noise when I'm playing songs that are just voice with a little bit of piano. Its mostly fixed if you adjust the "equalizer" on iTunes. Other than that i would say good speakers for price.

    Decent Sound, Overpriced, Boomy Bass

    • Written by from Cambridge

If you are looking for decent speakers these may fit the bill. But there are better speakers for $100. Due to the DSP they use to process the sound, the sound is big, but the bass is definitely not tight and punchy. When watching movies in iTunes, you sometimes have to turn up the volume too loud to hear the voices, but then the bass is way too much. Be sure to try other speakers before purchasing these ones.

    You can do better

I was very pleased with the clarity and quality of the sound coming out of these speakers until my left one started making a rattling noise. Never turning the volume up a bit over half, I'm disappointed with this 2.0 system as it couldn't even handle medium volumes very well.

Don't get me wrong, these speakers sound fantastic, but if you want a pair that will last I recommend the companion 3 series. With the bass the stress on the speakers is reduced and they probably wont blow or rattle like mine at medium volumes.

There is nothing more annoying than buying a good speaker for quality and constantly hearing a rattle every time you play a song.

For anyone who cares, I'm going to replace them with the M-audio Studiophile set.

no power on/off button and iPhone buzz

    • Written by from Seattle

26 of 32 people found this useful

These speakers are always on--they have no power on/off button. If you have an iPhone near them (near meaning in the same room) they will pick up what's called the "GSM buzz" if you're running on the Edge network. This problem doesn't happen with iPhone's running on the 3G network.

I keep my iPhone 3G on Edge because of dropped call problems and battery life, but doing so causes the nearby speaker buzz. In a perfect world, I'd just turn off the speakers when not in use, but that's not possible.

Otherwise, the speakers sound good, not excellent. I'd echo much of what else has been said here in other reviews. To get the most out of the speakers I've had to spend more time adjusting the equalizer than with a previous set of JBL computer speakers. Bass can be too low and highs can be too high, but the quality overall is good. But perhaps not $99 good.

Do not get these if you have an iphone and keep it near your Mac. The GSM phones will make these speakers BUZZZZZZZZZZZ. Not sure what speaker don't, but don't waste your money if you have this type of set up because now you will have BOSE enhanced buzz.

The sound was pretty good, but not worth all the praise these Bose speakers are getting. I guaruntee that one of the bigger versions of these speakers will perform much better than this one.
    Not quite worth the $90.

Amazing speakers, but careful of the GSM buzz!

For the money these are great sounding speakers, great highs and amazing lows. And sideways they fit perfectly and look great under my 30'' Cinema display, matching the aesthetics spot on. My only complaint is that like most speakers, they do not appear to be shielded against GSM interference, so if you have an iPhone or other GSM phone and its with you most of the time within five feet or so of these things, the loud intermittent GSM buzzing might just drive you crazy!

I recently bought a iMac, but wasn't completely sold on the audio options that it came with. Now, ALL my expectations have been met. These speakers make the mac a fantastic system. The sound is magnificent! The highs, the lows, and lets not forget the bass! If you want your iMac to come alive, go and get these!!!

    SPEAKER CASES ARE BLACK

    • Written by from Lenexa

30 of 73 people found this useful

First of all before I critique the speakers, I will say for the money they have excellent sound.

I do think that the product photo is a misrepresentation of their true color. The only thing silver on the speakers is the grill. I was excited thinking that the entire speaker would be silver to match my Mac Book Pro and Cinema Display. In fact the metallic that is on the front doesn't match the mac products.

If I was expecting the black backs then I would give them a 5 star review. I am disappointed because they don't match my set up very well.
