    Just an OK Case

    • Written by from Sun City Center

When I picked up my iPad Air on 11/1, I didn't want to take it home without a case, so I bought one of the new cases designed to cover both sides of the iPad. At $79 I expected it to be a gorgeous leather and very functional, but it's not. It really does not feel like leather at all, and I just have not been able to prop the iPad up on a table with the case, the way that I expected I could.. I am thinking about returning it for a refund.

Great case; really adds to the iPad Air

    • Written by from Berkeley

I decided to get this case after asking an Apple employee if I could see one 'in action' so to speak. They brought one out from the back that had an iPad Air in it. I immediately decided to get it. I have prior experience with the Smart Case for a previous iPad (3) and didn't like it because the lip at the top seemed wide, clunky, and bulky. It could be that the new smaller form factor of the iPad Air allows it's Smart Case to be more pleasing. The top lip is narrow (like the bezel) and you hardly notice it. For my previous iPad I had both the Smart Case and a Smart Cover which I used in combination with a Belkin Snap Shield Secure. The Belkin case is a low profile shell (for the back) that was designed to accept the Smart Cover. I bring this up because it was my intention to use both setups and alternate them but since I disliked the older Smart Case so much I ended up never using it. For this new Smart Case, this is the only case I intend to get as I really like it. It's pricey as leather is the only choice, but if I had gotten the less expensive Smart Cover, I would have gotten an additional shell for the back so there would be extra cost there. I don't mind paying a little extra for a good solution like this.

Fits and feels wonderful. Stand takes some getting used to.

    • Written by from Calgary

The case fits like a glove and feels wonderful to touch. As a stand, the case is quite stable once the hidden magnets are engaged. Follow the pictures on how to fold the lid.

The space grey iPad Air in the black case looks great.

    Not worth the $$$

    • Written by from Shoreview

I purchased a black case this morning and started using it with my new iPad... Very disappointed. The case does not stand-up correctly, the magnetics are too weak and the cover does not lay flat against the face of the iPad. Very poor design and not worth the money.

    Disappointed! Consistently falls over!!

    • Written by from Lansdale

I was excited to pick up the new iPad Air yesterday and decided to try the Smart Case. Unfortunately, the case does not stay as intended in either the typing or viewing positions. It constantly slides apart and falls flat or the IPad falls forward. Perhaps it's limited to the one I selected-or it's overall poor design and a rush to market. Whatever the cause, I will be returning the case and looking at other products.

Has Apple taken the "smart" out of the cover??

    • Written by from Portsmouth

Bought an iPad Air to replace an iPad 2, plus the lovely looking leather case.

Much to my horror, the new three (as opposed to four) fold cover is hard to hold. The original four fold "smart" cover was a brilliant combination of form and function. With the new case, the folds are too big making for a much less steady and reliable grip.

Taken together, the new case design makes the new iPad Air less functional for me as a convenient device. I will be looking around for a replacement.

I am curious as to why Apple ditched the prior case's brilliant design for the iPad Air ...

    Do not Buy

    • Written by from Washington

If you are going to spend $79 in a case look for a case worth the money. I have one in brown and I have to say I really love to color and the feel in my hands but when it comes to the utility of the case it is really useless. The iPad won't stand up firmly and don't even think about trying to stand your iPad on your bed. Regretfully, I will have to return mine. Disappointed with Apple.

    Cons outweigh the pros

    • Written by from Germantown

I love the feel of this case and the fact that it is very lightweight and slim! However, the magnets are way too weak! The only thing that the magnets do successfully is the wake/sleep feature. Other than that the case does not stay in a folded position very well and it most definitely does not stay on the back (in the open position). I already had them swap it for another one in the store, so it seems to be an inherent problem with the design. I will be returning it for a full refund. Unless Apple fixes this, I'm looking to Speck to save the day. And they won't charge the $80. I hate writing this, my first bad apple review, but that is how it is.

The 3 side fold isn't stable compared to the 4 fold when standing the ipad

    • Written by from Mississauga

When i cook in the kitchen and need to quickly press the pause button etc. it would collapse.

I miss the 4 folded smart cover. More stable especially when you want the cover to hold it standing up.

The Folding Top/Stand Doesn't Work Well

    • Written by from RANCHO MIRAGE

The material is soft and colorful (I got the red) and makes a great overall case. But the folding cover doesn't work well as a stand. In typing position it's just okay but when I fold it to stand it up and watch a video it keeps slipping and falling. Great idea, not-so-great execution.

    Case feels nice but flimsy

    • Written by from Plymouth

Leather has a nice feel but is kind of slick and sides of case are very loose on iPad Air. iPad stays in place but sides aren't snug and may become worse over time. Blue color is nice but feels cheap for the premium price.

    Terrible Case. Terrible Quality.

    • Written by from FALL RIVER

I would give this case a negative star if I could. It's pathetic that Apple prices this case at $79. It feels like styrofoam and barely stands on it's own. Apple has managed to make their cases even cheaper in quality while jacking up the prices. For a company that prides itself on quality this is is an absolute shame. I've never been more disappointed in an Apple product.

Somethig nice -- Red is beautiful~!
However, I think it is a flimsy case~! Not solid when you stand it up, not enough angle when you have it in a 'reading' position.

The thing that bugs me the most is when you're holding it and using it, the cover keeps falling away from the bottom~! Wish it was magnetized, or whatever they would have to do~!! And it does add weight~!!!

Verizon told me they will be getting in 'more substantial' cases. We'll see.

    Great Case But Poor Stand

    • Written by from Houston

The case itself is high quality and lightweight, but unlike the Smart Cover the magnet is not strong enough to hold the iPad Air upright when the cover is folded to be used as a stand. As a result it is unstable and often collapses when you touch the screen. If you want a case that doubles as a stand I would look elsewhere. I will be returning mine for a refund.

Almost a perfect case but think before you buy.

    • Written by from Singapore

Had read lots of review about this iPad Air Case before purchasing it online. I got my iPad Air in white and was looking for a perfect case, but as you know, nothing is perfect.

Many reviews claims that this is one of the worst case which will not work will and collect lots of dust and make your colour to black after a few days of usage.
What they said was 100% true.

So i decided to get a black one for me.
Trust me, its the most perfect case i had ever use.
Not other colour, but black colour.

-Case will not turn black after usage because its already black!
-One of the most comfortable case to carry around.
    -Perfect leather design.
    -Super Lightweight.
-Protects your iPad from top to bottom, front to back.
-Stand works normally but its sufficient for people like us, humans.

Cheesy for the money. Headphone jack hole is too small so you have to remove the case to use speakers or headphones. Lame.

Unstable Stand, Poor fit, Cheap Feel, Premium Price

    • Written by from CALGARY

I recently purchased the iPad Air to replace my iPad 4. While the iPad Air seems to be a marginal improvement over the iPad 4 the case is a giant downgrade. It feels cheap, the cover doesn't sit flat when closed, and it's expensive for what you get. The thing that really bothers me is that when you fold the cover into a triangle, it doesn't have an overlapping segment like the cover on the iPad 4 which had four segments vs three on the iPad Air. This makes it very unstable when folded into a triangle leading in to collapse very easily. I used to hold the folded cover on my iPad 4 and it felt secure unlike this new cover. I actually miss my iPad 4 and the cover that was on it. I really hope that Apple releases a better alternative because this cover hurts the usability of the device.

    • Written by from millbrae

bought this case today with the ipad air
    nice texture, love it
but the one major thing is you can't plug in the Lightning to 30-Pin Adapter with the case on, the opening is too small

i tried to use my old iPad Camera Connection Kit w/ the adapter

    no working

    Sub-par case

    • Written by from Denton

This is my first apple branded case and I have to say I am a bit concerned about the quality. It claims to be genuine leather, however it is unlike any leather I have ever owned. It feels very flimsy and the corners are a bit rough. I think this level of product should be priced at 35.00 opposed to its retail price.

All my other cases were from a leather company out of California and cost around the same but for 5x the quality.

However, the case does keep a relatively slim profile and does not add too much weight to the ipad air. It also keeps the screen and rear of the device safe from scratches.

Not a terrible device, but more than double the price for the quality. I don't think I'll be returning as I am extremely lazy.

The Smart Case is the first slim case solution from Apple that makes sense by protecting both the back and the display of the iPad Air. The iPad Air goes to sleep when the cover is closed over the display. I've been an Ipad user from the beginning and would have welcomed this for my previous generation iPads. The Smart Cover was better than nothing but I still had to get a 3rd party snap cover to protect the back. The leather is worth the premium price. The flimsiness of the cover when it is rolled back to form a stand keeps this product from rating 5 stars. The magnets don't seem strong enough to keep the iPad Air from tilting back.
