Great case but too pricey for what it is!

    • Written by from WARRENHEIP

Today i got the ipad air smart case in blue it feels really good! But i really wanted a green one but i rang everywhere and no one had green!? And the 3 panel folding stand is really bad. It falls down with the littlest pressure applied to it.
Over all its a great case but too pricey for what you get!
It would defiantly be good if apple redesigned the ipad smart case with a 4 panel stand.

The one u'll consider to purchase..

    • Written by from SF

Actually I wanted to give 3and half stars... I had it for about an year... Since it's getting old, it doesn't stands stable on the desk...it'll often fall over to the back..maybe because there are too many rectangular bars folded inside, and couldn't support the weight of iPad ... Consider this point it might be a little pricy(personally, I think $40 a little above would be just right price to purchase) ... But other than is, it's a cool product. Easy to take off, made of leather, color won't fade crazy(at least mine stays in really good condition), the machine won't get super hot with long time using..and now the store got similar case with 3 bars attached, it might be more comfortable to use I guess...stands more stable...if you are not crazy about pretty design, why don't you just get a right one , and use it forever...^^

Don't buy if you're not gonna use apple earpods

    • Written by from Santa Ana

I bought several cases from Amazon (3rd party) and I have to say that this ipad air smart case has the best material, best looking and also best fitting for my ipad. But unfortunately, when it comes to the headphone jack, it totally turned me down when I tried to connect my earphones (urbeats) and I couldn't fully plug it in. Even though the urBeats jack is small-medium size, I know a lot of headphone jacks out there have bigger size; therefore, this is totally ridiculous from a $80 case from Apple itself. Now I have to order Apple Earpods and cannot enjoy my other headphones. I'm totally disappointed !!

Great material but not as functional as the Original smart cover

    • Written by from san Antonio

I just bought a Mini iPad to replace my iPad 3, I had the smart cover with the iPad 3, and I fell in love with the functionality and the way it looked, so it was obvious I was going to get one with the Mini iPad as well and of course I had to upgrade to the smart cover, to my disappointment the cover does not work as well as the original smart cover, the magnets are too week, or the way the cover folds don't hold the weight of the iPad, so it continuously falls over, but the materials and the way the iPad looks is great, will be returning the cover and buying another brand. (and I'm an apple fan)

    Cover folds awkwardly, otherwise great

    • Written by from Corona

In many ways the iPad Air Smart Case is an improvement over the older iPad (non-air) Smart Case. The newer case no longer has the rough edges that runs along all sides of the older case, which makes holding the iPad much more comfortable (the case no longer digs into the palms). The newer case is made of leather, and it looks and feels so much better than the older polyurethane case. Seriously, the feel of the iPad Air Smart Case blows the older case out of the water. It even seems to fit more snugly than the older case.

My main complaint with the new case is the way the screen folds. Since the iPad Air is narrower than the previous generation iPads, the case's cover is also narrower. So instead of having 4 panels and 3 folds, the newer case has 3 panels and 2 folds. Unlike some other reviewers, I have yet to experience issues with using the new fold configuration to stand the iPad Air up or tilt it for typing, but I have been having issues with finding a comfortable way of folding the cover back when using the iPad Air.

On the older case, I'd just fold the cover in half (via the 2nd fold), and the magnet would snap the cover in half. This gets the cover out of the way when the cover is in the back of the iPad. However, the newer cover doesn't have a magnet that snaps the panels together, and when folding the panels together, they don't really stay shut, and it's very hard to find a comfortable way of keeping the cover in the back of the case without it dangling of getting in the way.

If my description is hard to understand, I highly suggest going into an Apple Store and see and play with the cover for yourself. There is so much to love about this case, and I am not unhappy that I have it (it's the case I am using), but I just wish the cover isn't quite so annoying.

nice fell being leather... "lid" not nearly as good...

    • Written by from Minden

I had the previous Apple case for the 3rd and 4th gen iPads... the flap that makes the stand and cover is much better on the older one as it wraps into itself enough that it will stay wrapped. This one feels nice but unless you've got it sitting in the more flat position, this one won't hold the "rolled up" nature and gets very frustrating. I do like the black color option, just should have been designed better for an Apple product.

    Nice Try

    • Written by from Bear

The new iPad Air Smart Case looks good and feels good to the touch, until you attempt to stand it up and use the iPad on a table top or desk. It just keeps falling over and when I try to watch a movie or read a book, I have to cringe my neck because it sits too high. Major design flaw...try try again...

    Poor Construction

    • Written by from Portland

I bought this case when I purchased my ipad last week. It is not worth the $80 price tag because of cheap and flimsy it feels. It gets the job done, don't get me wrong, but it seems like apple whipped it together way too fast without testing it. It fits snug around my ipad, but the cover is really flimsy. The first crease next to the fold bulges up about 3/8" when closed, and the magnetic pieces are too weak to hold it up when the cover is folded to hold the ipad up. The leather-like material feels really cheap too. I wouldn't be surprised if the material begins feeling sticky if left in my car during a warm day.

I will be returning the case shortly and picking up something else.

Sides bow out like cheap card board box with front cover folded back

    • Written by from Biddeford

The idea is terrific but execution disappointing, especially for price. The weight is perfect but the materials are not rigid enough on the back cover to keep the sides from bowing out when handled with front cover folded back. Although no fear of it falling out, it is disconcerting initially and then becomes just an annoyance once you accept that your device won't pop out. The leather is like cheap leather bonded furniture at discount stores--very thin veneer of leather bonded to another substrate material. Would be fine if that substrate was more substantial than a cardboard gift box from a department store, The magnets, as indicated in other review, do not hold the front cover to the back when opened. So. would I recommend? No, especially given the price point. Am I returning? No because it's at hand and haven't seen much else that's better looking. Still a disappointment for an apple accessory.

    It's OK. Not worth $80.00

    • Written by from Lake Oswego

I agree with what others have said about it. Doesn't stand up well on all surfaces. And feels like hard styrofoam. Would feel better about it if I paid $20.00 for it. But it's apple branded so what are you gonna do

    Could be better

    • Written by from VINE GROVE

I'd like to first say that I really like the minimal feel of the case. The leather looks and feels better than most I've had on previous iPads. I also like the fit of the iPad in the case and how it matches my iPhone 5s black leather cover. The only problem I have is the cover. The magnets turn it off and on as advertised and fits perfect on the right side, but the hinged side of the cover gaps which makes it look cheap and provides a small opening for dust and dirt. Apple could have integrated a better hinge style to make it a perfect 5 star product. Like the original magnetic hinge. I'll probably send this back unless they figure it out and exchange for one that's provides what the consumer wants.

    Not bad but not great

    • Written by from Billerica

I wanted a leather Smart Cover like the one I had on my iPad 3. I prefer leather since it upheld better in my laptop case with all my traveling that the non leather cover I originally had. Unfortunately Apple decided to only provide leather on it smart case. I was able to feel the case prior to purchasing and to appeared to match the iPhone 5s case but when I got home and installed, I was slightly disappointed. The fit seems weird, the feel is good and I'm not sure if I like this newer style folding cover.

Overall it's not bad. It's overpriced and could be better but I'll stick with it until something better comes along.

    I expected better

    • Written by from Au Sable Forks

This case has a very nice fit and feel to it but is sorely lacking in functionality. In upright stand mode it does not lean at enough of an angle to read or view while sitting at a table and when trying to hold the iPad in your hands to use with cover folded behind it the top of end flap keeps falling down. I expected the front cover to be held magnetically in place when folded back. Could have been a great case but this one doesn't live up to Apple's standards. I returned it.

Very light, still not sure if I'll keep it.

    • Written by from Grants pass

The case feels terrific, and only weighs 152 grams. Compared to some of the early models I received from other vendors, it is easily the lightest full case. It is the only very slim and smooth case as well, offering great protection without any added bulk. As usual, apple makes the best case.
However, it really doesn't like to stand up in landscape mode without the extra fold on the lid. I don't know how this made it through testing. On the old smart cases, it was very secure like this. Now, even locked into place it can slip out with a slight movement. I feel like I'll be ordering every case that shows up on Amazon until I find a better one, then returning this one.

    Not the Best

    • Written by from Avon

I am disappointed with this case. First, the angle in the typing position is almost too flat.

But the biggest thing that bothers me is that in the upright position, even a gentle touch to the top half of the screen collapses the stand. Yes, you can feel the magnets initially lock the stand into place, but the lock is not secure. I find myself having to hold the triangular edge with one hand if I have to touch the screen with the other hand.

It may be an Apple product, but I would not recommend it to a friend.

    Decent case, horrible price

    • Written by from Winton

I am no stranger to leather, but this is just simply over priced. I do own one, against my better judgement of spending this much for a case on an already expensive product. It does feel premium and soft. If you can bear with the hefty price tag then you'll be content. No drop protection, so if if you're looking for heavy duty, skip this case.

    Nice, but flawed

    • Written by from Apex

The materials are decent and the case holds the iPad perfectly, but the magnets aren't strong enough to keep the iPad propped up as they should be.

Also, the leather 'hinge' is not wide enough to allow the cover to be folded behind the iPad and lay flat against the back. I'm not sure if this is a manufacturing defect just on mine or if others have this problem, but I would expect better for the price.

    Cons outweigh the pros

    • Written by from Germantown

I love the feel of this case and the fact that it is very lightweight and slim! However, the magnets are way too weak! The only thing that the magnets do successfully is the wake/sleep feature. Other than that the case does not stay in a folded position very well and it most definitely does not stay on the back (in the open position). I already had them swap it for another one in the store, so it seems to be an inherent problem with the design. I will be returning it for a full refund. Unless Apple fixes this, I'm looking to Speck to save the day. And they won't charge the $80. I hate writing this, my first bad apple review, but that is how it is.
