    Disappointed in this $80 case.

    • Written by from Sanford

The iPad Air fits nicely in it and the magnetic lid works perfectly. Unfortunately, the lid is useless as a standard and almost every set of headphones I own will not fit in the cutout hole for the jack. Nice Leather. Just wish they would go back to the old iPad case design. At least the lid would function properly as a stand.

    Cumbersome case

    • Written by from Miami

This case may protect better than just the cover but it makes it look and feel just like an iPad 2. The "air" aspect is abandoned on such a large case. Yes it protects, but it could be a little lighter and not as thick.

This case isn't worth the money

    • Written by from Bonanza

I first purchased the "cover" instead of the case due to the amount of money it cost. The "cover" kept coming off when I turned it to the back of the iPad. So, I broke down and purchased the "case." The first one was black because that was all my local store carried. It would not close right and it would not turn off my iPad.

When I turned it to the store, I found they now carried the awful blue and red. Not many choices. I picked the red. It does fit better and it does turn off the iPad when closed. But...it doesn't stand up right. I have to play with it to get it to do so. I quilt and like to view tutorials on YouTube when learning a new technique, but have issues doing so.

This "case" should have only cost about $39.00 instead of the $79 that Applie charges. They need to revisit the construction and layout of the new iPad Air case and cover.

Its okay but not for the price

    • Written by from Hamilton

The case fits perfectly however the 3 panel is NOT a good design. When you go to fold the cover and use it to prop up your screen it does not hold. Either the magnetics are not strong enough along with the 3 panel design doesnt work. The four panel design which is for the regular ipad works better.

Plus it is way to expensive for what you are getting...

    Stand keeps falling

    • Written by from Toronto

The case looks and feels great however using the roll over stand feature is frustrating because it keeps falling down- leaving you with the iPad flat on your surface. If I hadn't used the case for as long as I have I would get a refund because it is a waste if I can't utilize all intended functions. Buyer beware

    Decent protection. EGREGIOUS functionality.

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I'll make a quick list of pros and cons:

    Pros:
    High quality feel
    Decent protection
    Aesthetically pleasing

    Cons:
The front cover does not fold completely back. It sounds minor but it quickly becomes extremely annoying. There is always a slight bump if you decide to hold your iPad while you use it. Furthermore, because it doesn't fold flush with the back of the iPad, it pulls at the left of the case. You end up left with a deformed case that eventually won't close properly.

They claim the cover works as a stand (upright landscape position). Sure, it will stand, but don't dare try to tap or touch the screen of your iPad when it is in this position. The slightest tiny tap will cause the stand to dismantle and the iPad to fall flat. Furthermore, the stand creates a nearly 90 degree angle. I have not come across a single situation where either stand orientation has been helpful at all.

If the case was, say, $30, I probably would have thought, "Eh, it's not a great case, but oh well." But for $80, I feel robbed.

OK - Not worth the price

    • Written by from Georgetown

The smart case for iPad Air is an OK case. It does a good job at protecting the iPad. However, it isn't the most stable when put in the video viewing mode. Slightest bump and the iPad will fall over. Also, the leather picks up every piece of grease and stains easily (as I would expect any leather cover to do). The last concern I have is that the case doesn't fully close at the hinge. There is a gap near the hinge when the cover is closed.

    Great idea poorly executed!

    • Written by from Meriden

This is a very well thought of case, however the functionality is poor to say the least. It has a very nice feel to it both tactile and weight wise, it basically does not add any significant weight to the iPad and feels great to the touch, however, it lacks the ability to stay in place when used as a stand. When in vertical mode the cover does not stay well enough in place behind the iPad. The magnet that holds the flap attached to the back should've been stronger, it repeatedly comes loose and you have to constantly keep pushing it back into place.

The landscape stand feature is virtually non existent, since even the slightest touch can make the iPad collapse backwards. I am quite surprised that such a pricey Signature Apple accessory performs so poorly. Engineering team please wake up, if the consumer is asked to pay such a high price for an accessory, the least the customer can expect is that the case will at least live up to its name and do what it promises to do.

To recap, the case feels great to the touch and adds virtually no significant weight to your iPad, but everything else about it fails to satisfy the specific needs of the consumer. Sorry to say I expected much more from such an expensive Apple accessory, or has Apple just lost all sense of how tight money is nowadays.

Save some money~buy the Poly version

    • Written by from Dayton

Does not stand well. Part of the design and function is to use it as a stand it failed here.
    Why I give it 2 stars~
Close function works well, all necessary port areas and speaker areas well cut, so no loss on sound and function.
While it seems to fit well the cover is not worth the extra dough if you want a leather cover.
Its a molded leather meaning small portion of the cover material is real leather.

Sleek in feel and holds the iPad well , does not give me a leather feel.
I got red version which is awful in color saturation and tone.
Seems definition of leather is the same at Apple as some furniture stores.

Waiting it out on how long it last, particularly the hinge area..
I was conflicted on returning it, I needed a item then to cover my iPad so I kept it..

    Disappointing for $80

    • Written by from Cos Cob

This is a "nice" case. But for an Apple product, and the price premium it carries, I have a hard time recommending it.

The Good: The leather is, and feels, like actual leather. The insides are a nice microfiber. The cuts are clean and precise. Overall it looks professional and of quality, and it holds the case neatly and securely. I should note, before I go into the negatives, I have looked extensively at the alternatives and in my view, for what it does, this is the best option out there right now in terms of sleekness and functionality - but this is a highly personal choice so I suggest doing your research. ilounge is a good destination for it.

The Bad: Standing the case, either laying down, or standing up, is nowhere near as elegant or intuitive as the original smart covers. With the original smart covers the magnets were arranged in such a was as to ensure a secure base. You could pick the iPad up, move it, rearrange it to a different orientation, etc. and the base (triangle) stayed secure. This cover requires the pressure of the iPad itself to stay together. Pick it up or move it, and the base crumbles - requiring you to again set it up. It is a matter of seconds to do so, but it is a huge inconvenience - and inelegant. You see this everywhere, but I don't think this thing would have made it out the door had Steve Jobs had to sign off on it.

The ugly: When closed, the magnets work well, but the section of the cover near the hinge does not lie flat on the iPad (due to the fabric hinge, no doubt), and so the entire left 1/3 of the iPad is slightly exposed. While probably not a big deal, this means the cover is not full protecting the iPad from dust, splashed liquid, etc. Perhaps worse, it is simply inconsistent with the high quality of design and craftsmanship you would expect from Apple - and for a case retailing at $80

Would be great if it did what it claims it can! Waste of money!

    • Written by from Ma

This thing will not prop up the iPad in the table top view like it says it does! Spend your money elsewhere. Not to mention the headphone port through the case is cut so small so only to accept apple headphone jacks. OMG! What a disappointment.

    Nice looking but functionality poor

    • Written by from Bethlehem

I got this case for Christmas. Slim and does not add much bulk to the device. Looks nice and feels great to touch. Hoewever, the magnets do not seem to be strong enough so when you position to stand (straight or at an angle) it topples over so easily, basically forcing me to hold it, readjust it constantly. Terrible functionality nice looks. For the price, I ould look elsewhere.

It tore after barely a month!

    • Written by from Dickinson

I really like this case, it fits well and it feels great. But after just barely a month of taking it in and out of my purse there is now a hole ripped into it where it snagged on something in my purse. What? How can it be so flimsy but protect your ipad at the same time?

    The case it okay but

    • Written by from Everett

Just bought this yesterday and while the case if fine the headphone jack hole barely fits Bose headphones. (you really have to push and even then it might pop out) Also I bought the 30 pin connector for my various 3rd party tools and you can't even use it with the case on.
Just plain stupid. Taking it back.

    Not worth the price

    • Written by from Bruxelles

I have purchased this case with the iPad, considering to get it its protection case immediately. I followed the advice and the trust in Apple brand.
Now that I have used it for 2 months, I am not happy with it for 2 major reasons:
    - I don't think it will last long, its quality does not seem to be great, meeting the price tag expectation.
    - and the major one: The various positions it can block the ipad. Whether it is entirely straight - too straight - or it is lying too much. It is definitely not providing the best positions for me.
My advice: make your homework before choosing the case! And try to find better alternatives to this product.

I like the older case my original iPad used

    • Written by from Saint Clair Shores

Not sure why this is so pricey. The viewing/working angles are not that great and not secure. I only bought this to keep my iPad safe and protected and because there is nothing else yet available. The original one worked much better and locked in place. This one falls down a lot.

Great Form Factor - Awful Stand

    • Written by from Pottstown

Just got an new iPad air and loved the form factor of this case as it fits like a glove and seems like it would reasonably protect the pad if dropped from a short distance. HOWEVER, the stand functions are AWFUL. What a horrible design. There are only 2 stand positions, about 15 degrees off the table which is fine for a table / typing, and the other position is basically 85 degrees or practically straight up. I've had other ipads for 2.5 years and can safely say - there is no app, feature, or function where you would ever use your ipad in this position. It is flat out unusable in this position. So there really is no, watch a movie, read a book, play a game position. Just straight up and laying down. Returned it next day.

For the cost, I expected better

    • Written by from Tucson

I wish I had not spent $79 dollars on this item. That's a lot of cash to toss out to buy something better. The case protects the device but it is useless when it comes to supporting it in various levels of tilt. The dang foldable top collapses with the slightest bump from the hand or movement of the lap or table. Argh!

Immediately Returned: Inferior to other magnetic cases

    • Written by from Big Rapids

I purchased this case based on previous versions of the iPad Smart Cover. I found that my iPad fit snug, but the magnets were not strong enough to keep the cover in stand-position. I was frustrated within minutes and immediately decided to return it. This needs to be redesigned stat if apple wants satisfied customers.
