    premium price, bad design

    • Written by from wilrijk

This has to be the worst apple design ever. Yes my iPad air fits, but the cover is useless as a stand, is uncomfortable to hold and doesn't even fold nicely around the back. Shame on you Apple, this doesn't feel like it's 'designed by Apple', more like a cheap Chinese fake.

    Does not stand up well

    • Written by from Aubrey

This case does not stand up on its side very well. The last gen. iPad smart cover would stand up on its side with no problems. When you finally get this one to stand up you barely touch your iPad and it will tip over (and yes I'm folding it over the correct way). I returned it to the Apple store and the employee there acknowledged that this was a problem with this case; although he didn't want to admit it at first. It is disappointing to see Apple put their name on this product, not to mention for $80!

    Poor fit and design

    • Written by from BOULDER

As others have said the cover doesn't close properly, but more importantly, the folding top does not reliably work as a stand and it falls over. I returned the case. Apple, with all it's design smarts, should do better than this - especially for what they are charging for it.

    Unbiased Review

    • Written by from Portland

These reviews are funny but if you want the straight scoop read on. I had the iPad Smart Cover for my iPad gen 2 and it was great but over time the leather frayed a bit but overall I liked it so when I bought a new iPad Air I figured they'd have worked out the bugs. Sadly, this smart case seems to have one less fold in the cover which means that it actually doesn't hold your iPad up when it is configured as a stand. I really can't figure out why Apple would release something like this to the market-it really does not function as a stand. The leather indeed seems improved as I'd hoped and it makes for a great cover. Unfortunately, I bought it to use the stand function. If you're looking for a cover alone this thing is nice, probably 4 star nice as it is a bit slippery. If you're looking for a cover that doubles as a stand it won't merit a single star as it simply doesn't work.

Slides out of position, original iPad case was better

    • Written by from Fair Haven

Eighty bucks is too much to pay for such an annoying product. In landscape position the back of the case is too slick to grip the surface it is propped on. It often slides flat. When in this position, the iPad is not propped high enough which makes it uncomfortable to use it. There should be a gripping surface along the edge with the volume buttons. (The original version which felt like a synthetic material gripped on all surfaces including slanted ones. That made it easier to prop up and harder to slip out of hands or carrying case.) The portrait or standing position makes it easy to tip over and hard to read. The on/off button is hard to press through the cover. Even though I have not dropped it yet, the case appears to protect the edges. The company should be ashamed to associate their name with this the product. Not very smart. I give it one star for its protective properties.

Poor design, can't use headphones with it and massively overpriced

    • Written by from Leeds

Cover doesn't close properly and headphone hole too small so headphone jack can't be pushed in, I've taken a drill to mine to make the hole bigger. Am moving away from Apple products, this ipad will likely be my last apple purchase for some time. Will be buying other manufacturers products who take function into more consideration.

Ok i dont evencknow where to start. First week fell apart. Non heavy use just around the house. It creased and ripped and peeled apart. Then the corner split from taking the ipad out of the case. For $100 DOLLARS APPLE YOU SHOULD ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THE QUALITY. NEVER BUYING A SMART PRODUCT AGAIN

What a joke! It protects the Ipad ok, but is totally useless as a stand.

    Bad quality case

    • Written by from Cambridge

This case is a big disapointment. I owned the ipad 1 previously and loved the standard case it came with. The new one for the ipad air is totally useless and a waste of money. My ipad almost fell 3 times from the table because the case does not hold the weight of the device.

    Worthless case

    • Written by from Burbank

Wow Apple's standards are really hitting the bottom of the barrel. This case subpar . It doesn't stay up right to watch movies and it falls in on itself when your trying to type on it. So not worth $79.00 , Apple you should be ashamed of yourself for allowing this to be sold. Fix it and stop selling bad products like this.

    Cheap and wears out fast

This case is expensive. It doesn't feel like leather nor look like it. I've had my case for maybe 6 months. It's already worn out.

    Very poor Apple.

    Terrible product, sneaky company.

    • Written by from Portland

Apple realised the Polyurethane Smart Case was the best way to go, so they took it out of the list for the iPad Air to force people to buy the Leather one. It is way too expensive for it just to be leathery... It does not close well and the worst thing: THE JACK HOLE ONLY FITS THE APPLE HEADPHONES JACK!!!! For anything else you have to take the iPad out of the case. This is unacceptable! Really disappointed from the "design geniuses".

WILL NOT protect your iPad from a 3ft fall

    • Written by from Atlanta

Despite the negative reviews about this case, I made the decision to get it for what I believed to be the "craftsmanship". I learned things the hard way and am writing this review so hopefully you don't have to. My iPad Mini with Retina display took a 3ft plunge and not only did the screen cover flip open but the iPad came completely OUT of the case, face down on the asphalt. I now have a brand new iPad with a cracked screen and a pitted frame. A case that claims such high stakes (and price) should be able to at least protect your $700 investment from a small fall. I now don't even want to look at my damaged iPad, much less the case. Will not only not recommend it, but go out of my way to warn people of the poor protection this case really offers.

An extension of Apple's poorly made accessories

    • Written by from Tampa

This case is probably the worst smart case that I've ever purchased for an iPad. The cover does not close properly; there is always a gap on the left-hand side by the hinge. The stand functions rarely work; it always seems to collapse. The cover, when open, should magnetically stick to the back of the case; it doesn't. My iPad 3 smart case did not behave this way, it works wonderfully. For the price of these cases, I would expect Apple to make a quality product--this one falls fall far short. I immediately took it back to the Apple Store and of course the Apple "geniuses" thought I was crazy, yet when they tried to demonstrate how the stand should work, and how the back cover should magnetize to the case, it was slipping and sliding all over the place. Hey, at least I got a good laugh but of course I could not return the product because Apple does not have a customer-centric view of quality service or standing behind their products. I've already purchased a new, "non-Apple" case… Can't wait to trash this piece of junk.

    I don't recommend this case.

    • Written by from Williamsport

I recently received the black cover for my new iPad air and I was not happy from beginning to end. Let's start off with the price,
It is 30.00 more than the original iPad cover and it's less material. Then there is the problem with using it as a stand to watch anything.
It falls over nine times out of ten, unless I prop it up against something. This is my third iPad, and like other customers I have always
Put my iPads in cases, but this time I was willing to risk no case rather than put that ill crafted case on it.
So it went back got my 85.00 bucks back and purchased a case for half that price that I love. I recommend shopping around for cheaper covers.

    Poorly Engineered Case

    • Written by from Washington

Case does not function as a stand for your iPad. With a very delicate touch you can get the case to stick in the triangle position intended by the designers but it can only barely support the weight of the iPad when in this position. The hinge between the front and back of the case is not really a hinge at all but just a section of flexible leather, this means the lid never snaps closed and always leaves a gap. The look and feel are fine but the price is the only thing that is as high as Apple's usual standards.
