    Get this now!

    • Written by from ATLANTA

For years we suffered with a router that required daily rebooting. The Time Capsule does its job all day, every day. You do nothing.

We have Comcast service and the measured speed on Apple devices has gone from 7 MB down to a blazing 50 Mbps. Wireless range has improved and setup is a snap.

Yes, it's a tad pricy, but you get what you pay for. Get one and enjoy it.

My old (version 5) Airport Time Machine has worked well, but the signal did not reach everywhere in our three-story house. I had read that the signal strength might improve with newer devices, so on a whim I decided to buy this new version. The setup could not have been easier, even by Apple standards--I moved the modem cable to the new Airport and plugged it in. Upon opening Airport Utility, the new device was identified and the new device seamlessly replaced the old. So none of my devices, including Apple TV, the kids' video game consoles, and even a Samsung Blu-ray player had to rejoin (the last one is pretty annoyingly cumbersome). Out of curiosity I clicked on my old Airport and the utility asked me if I wanted to use it to extend the network. I placed it elsewhere in the house and it works great.

Speeds? On SpeedTest I went from (Comcast cable) 18Mb/sec to 36Mb/sec. Pretty incredible for a few minutes of setup.

    Nice and good-looking router

    • Written by from Παλαιό Φάληρο

It's one of the very few and robust home solutions for backing up hard drive! At the same time is a very good wi-fi router.

    Plus:
It's silent, I have met some routers that make a lot of noise

Very easy to setup with any apple device or windows 7.

I simultaneously synchronize my iphone, run back up, surf the internet, stream HD content on my apple TV without a hussle and all these through my 72Mbps settled laptop speed.

    Minus are:
It's mildly hot all the time, not extremely though

It's formatted as FAT32 so it won't serve windows machines always at it's best. For example Windows System Image requires NTFS.

You can plug in only FAT32 Hard Drives. If you have a disk formatted otherwise, then it will show up but it won't be usable.

    Easy to install

    • Written by from Houston

I bought this product to improve the backup speed from a 3rd party NAS device. Since this product also had wireless routing capability, I decided to also replace my Airport Express in the hopes of seeing an improvement in range.

What really impressed me was how easy the setup was. When I plugged the device into the network it asked me if I wanted to add it the the network as a new wireless network, extend the range of an existing network, or replace existing network. I chose to replace. It imported the configuration from my airport express, set my old airport express to default settings. None of the dozen wireless products in my home even noticed the difference. Sometimes reconfiguring a wifi enabled thermostat is a pain when you change wireless routers. In this case the device never skipped a beat.

You get what you pay for and in this case I feel this a bargain.

    Best router I've owned yet

    • Written by from Franklinton

Have had Linksys, Netgear and a couple of other non name brand routers through the years. But this Airport Time Capsule-2TB delivers fast, strong and reliable wireless signal anywhere in my home. To compare, I can be 100+ feet away with a small office, trees and several walls inbetween and still get 40 Mbps. Same spot with the linksys and netgear router I barely get 2-5 Mbps. Also the automatic backup to the Airport Time Capsule ensures flawless and complete back ups.

Apple, I sincerely thank you for consistently making such easy to use, high quality products.

    Great reputation, great performance!

    • Written by from East Burke

I had an Airport base station and had no complaints at all, when I saw this one coming out I told to myself, I want one! Do I need one? Maybe not... However, having the combo of an Airport station and Time Machine was the big upgrade for me.

Totally recommend this unit, works great and performance is outstanding. Pricy, but I would say it will be years before I have to think about upgrading again!

    Thanks Apple!! Again...

Even my Garage has strong signal now!

    • Written by from Aliso Viejo

I have owned an Apple Time Capsule since 2008. I appreciate the tight integration with Mac's Time Machine backups. This is my 3rd Time Capsule from Apple. It works flawlessly. But what is really amazing with the latest iteration is the strength of the wi-fi signal throughout my 1800 square foot, three level town home. It sits on the top floor. It covers every square inch of my town home with strong signals. But the "coup de gras" was my realization that my iPhone had full wi-fi strength in my garage (even outside of it)! I never had connections in the garage. Overall, this is another great time machine.

I wasn't sure if it was going to make much of a difference from my 1st gen time capsule because i have no devices that utilize the newer 802.11ac wifi connections, however I already feel a speed difference and stability increase by quite a bit. I'd say 15% faster on a normal 802.11n.

So for those looking to simply update there Time capsules, or airport system. I would say yes!

Time Capsule be a WIFI network Extender of AirPort Extreme?

    • Written by from SAN DIEGO

Will the new Time Capsule extend the WIFI network of an Airport Extreme as it did in the past.
In an 8000 SQ ft home, II needed 3 routers in the past. Time Capsule was like a middle man with multiple functions. Will this still be true with the newer versions?

    Absolutely Fantastic!

    • Written by from Portland

Let me make a long story short - I've owned pretty much every brand of wireless router including D-Link, Netgear, and Motorola routers. My latest mistake was opting for a Motorola combo cable modem/WiFi router because it was about $100 cheaper than the AirPort Extreme and included the required cable modem. Boy was that a mistake. I live in a studio apt. with a small concrete wall dividing my bedroom from the living room, and I couldn't get a signal in bed. I resorted to buying a Netgear range extender, but it cut my speeds by about 90% so I finally gave up and just bought the AirPort. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I now get 5 bars in my room with nearly 60 Mbps speed (on a 60 Mbps connection), and I couldn't be happier. This router is worth it's weight in gold. Save yourself a LOT of headaches with the other brands and get yourself one of these bad-boys now!

    Great Router. The Best Yet!

    • Written by from Phoenixville

I can't tell you how many high end routers I have had over the years (including other Airport models). This one I just tested and love it. It took only 2 minutes to set up. The key though is the range and throughput which are both better than any other router I have tried. Look, there are some people that say the wireless backup and access is a tad slow. That is true but it is wireless folks. If you are looking for the quickest speed for a extra drive go buy a WD raptor and plug it in to your computer via USB. I find the access time acceptable. If you are using it for Time Machine backups like me, it works in the background so you don't even know if it is fast or slow. Finally Apple designed and created a AirPort product up to the high build quality and performance of all their other products!

    Great Router and Backup Device

    • Written by from Valencia

I got this to go along with my Mid-2013 Macbook Air, and coming from using a Linksys E3000 router, this thing works great! Setup is super super easy using the airport utility, and its really nice to be able to set up a guest network. The speed and range is a lot better than my previous router and it is also easy to get to the storage device and my usb attached drive as well! I think the design is well put together as well. My time machine backups through wifi didnt take that long to back up 32 GB of space i was using in the air.

    Unexpectedly Amazed

    • Written by from RENO

Noticeably faster speeds on all devices, none of which are .ac. The only surprise is the software interface needs to be rebooted to see changes such as new devices just joining the network.

Made it hard to rejoin a speakers-enabled Express since I thought the program would update it's presence on the fly. Only when I closed the program and reopened it did it see the remote base station after painstakingly resetting it several times. Otherwise, very, very pleased. The addition of a guest network was a pleasant surprise. The packaging is the best yet from Apple, and that's saying a lot.

The coolest Time Capsule yet!... No, really, it's "cool"!

    • Written by from Pike Road

I owned a 500GB Time Capsule, which most of the time was as hot as my 1st Gen Apple TV, not to mention the hot footprint that the unit leaves. This new Time Capsule not only has a significantly smaller footprint when compared to older models, but even after performing an initial backup of 500GB the unit and surrounding area is cool to the touch!
