perfect memory portal for large/multiple videos on smaller ipad minis

    • Written by from lexington

Have a 16GB ipad mini, but how to pack around a lot of videos to watch without clogging my ipad mini? Use this with a card to keep X ammount of videos to watch and upload at whim to my mini to watch, also use SD card as a photo library. basically this makes your ipad mini into a much larger platform for getting vids and pics onto it without having your computer at hand to upload new / diff vids or photos from. which is perfect for travel where you want a HUGE GB of vids to upload to watch on your ipad mini.

I bought this for my new iPad mini. You should insert the card in the reader, then insert into iPad. No problem with transfer.

Works like it should, and as described

This does as it's advertised, transfer photos/videos from a camera into you iPad... works great! Please ignore the folks who give this one star because it doesn't do functions like external storage.

CREATE a DCIM FOLDER if you are transferring pictures!!!!

    • Written by from Wailuku

I was originally going to return the card reader because it didn't work at all. I wanted to use it to transfer pictures I had stored on my laptop to the mini iPad. I did the copying to the sd card and plugged it into the iPad and nothing happened. It was so frustrating. I did this several times.

Thankfully, I saw the question and answer section on this website. First all the pictures had to put into a DCIM folder (just create it on the sd card). After I did that, it worked like a charm! I plugged the connector into the iPad and it automatically went to the camera section and asked if I wanted to download the pictures.

This connector assumes that you are taking a card directly out of your camera and then into the connector. No comment on that assumption!

I have tired it with 5 different SD cards. Works with all of them. Does what it states nothing more nothing less. If you are looking to add more storage to your iPad your'e looking at the wrong solution. It was made to go along with a digital camera. Not replace a laptop to someone of you reviewers.
This is what it is for. I am on a trip in say Cuba. I just took some amazing pictures with my digital DSR. Now I want to share some of those pictures on Facebook. This device will allow you to upload pictures to your iPad and view them. Then with your iPad connected to the internet via wifi or 3G you can share the pictures whatever way you want. It goes great with a digital camera. You can edit/photoshop the pictures on your iPad and make room on your SD card for more pictures.

If your SD card isn't working then check the lock toggle on the side of the SD card. It is sometimes hit while pushing the SD card into the slot.

If I had one problem with the reader it would be that there is no cover over the SD slot. While not a big problem it would be nice to protect from dust and sand.

Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader Works on Ipad 4 with Retina Display

    • Written by from LAS VEGAS

Please see review dated Nov. 6, 2012 answered by Josh S. on Nov. 15, 2012. His instructions work. If you are not using an SD card that was used to take pics with your camera, you have to create a DCIM folder and a sub folder inside of it named 100DICAM on the SD card. Then place your pics in the sub folder and they must be an 8 character format such as DSC_1234. I used a number scheme to name each pic such as 100_1111, 100_1112, etc. See the review dated Nov. 6, 2012. I have an IPad4 with Retina display and purchased the Lightning SD Card Camera Reader today. I just finished making the folder, sub folder, and renaming my pics. I then was able to import the pics to my IPad 4 using the SD Card Camera Reader. Works Great!

    Works great

Bought this to transfer pictures from my point and shoot camera to my iPad 4. Having this ability is great because I can leave my expensive lap top at home and just bring my much more portable iPad on trips. It works perfectly.

As an added bonus, i found that it also transfers video from my GoPro Hero 3 action camera too! The GoPro uses a micro SD card so i used a micro SD to SD adapter and it worked perfect. I bought iMovie and now I can also edit the videos as well. This card reader really makes the iPad that much more usefull.

Works great with Pentax DSLR camera

    • Written by from CRANBURY

I bought this adapter so I could see all my vacation photos while still away. It transfers all the photos to the iPad flawlessly and even gives you the choice of which pictures to transfer and which to delete. The iPad even knows which is the latest batch of pictures that were transferred. The best part is people will want to see your pics on the iPad but not on the small screen on the camera.

Insert SD card, plug into iPad, import photos to iPad, replace SD in camera... no changes to the format of the SD. In other words, the product does what it is supposed to.

Great with iPad, but not with iPhone

    • Written by from Auckland

Great for reviewing images taken on DSLRs and the likes on the larger screen of an iPad. Sadly it doesn't work on iPhone, including the iPhone 6 Plus as of today. Given the large gorgeous 5.5 inch screen, it would have been nice to be able to use this on it.

Apple, please enable this accessories on iPhone 6 plus !!

    Works Beautifully for Me!

    • Written by from Middle Village

Game Plan: before I purchase any device, I do my due diligence. I checked here for compatibility, thoughtfully read the reviews, & asked more questions at the Apple Store. Armed with my iPad Air and a 64G SDXC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card from my Sony DSC-HX400V "bridge" camera, I bravely took the following steps:
    1. Made certain that card was not locked
    2. Inserted card into card reader
    3. Opened Photos App
    4. Inserted card reader into the Lightening Port
    5. Selected import
    6. Chose the images, not deleting from card
    7. Removed card reader from port & replaced card into camera
    8. Went on with my life, bombarding friends & family w/my beautiful photos on my beautiful iPad Air
While I agree that "iPad Lightening to Card Reader" would be more helpful on the packaging--especially if you're making your purchase at Big Box stores where they will sell their Grandmothers for commission--I can honestly say that this reader does the job it is meant to do, & quite well.

    Read the compatibility section

    • Written by from Roswell

For crying out loud people! Read the compatibility section before giving the thing a 1 star rating. It only works with iPad and iPad mini. It specifically does not include the iPhone!

So far, my reader has worked with any card I put in it, but that's just me. I just wish the cable was a bit longer.

    Terrific

    • Written by from The Villages

I love this connector. It works perfectly, although I use SD cards only in the 8-32 GB range so I don't have problems with larger cards. I find it especially useful when traveling since I can back-up my photos occasionally, while sampling the local wine or espresso, and then send them up to the cloud each evening.

    Works Flawlessly

    • Written by from La Puente

I think those that say "nothing happens" are unaware that you have to go into your photos and press the "import" button. Nothing pops up when you insert the SD card. I use mine with a iPad Mini Retina and a 64gb SanDisk with no issues. I even move the entire DCIM folder from my cf cards to the SD card and am able to import images from my DSLR. The ONLY wish item I have is that this would work on the iPhone as well. Other than that no issues.

Works like I expected it to.

    • Written by from Taylor

Works just like I expected it would. Just as others before me have said, if you just want to transfer pics from a computer to your ipad using an SD card, simply pop the card in a camera and format it. Then use card to transfer pics between computer and ipad. Otherwise ipad will not recognize pics on card.

    Amazing

    • Written by from ScHENECTADY

I was amazed by the negative reviews that I had read regarding this accessory, I was having second thoughts before buying it. Finally I made up my mind and decided to try it in the store before purchasing.

I have an iPad air and I use a canon 60D and I only shoot in RAW. It is super simple, super fast, even when dealing with RAW images. The iPad was able to identify all of the pictures (even all the videos in my case although the store said It won't be able to deal with videos, but lucky me right? =D). The import process was easy and fast considering the size of RAW images. I was able to deal with the RAW images in all of the supported applications with no issue at all. The only annoying thing that I had found (which is only a preference related issue) is that the iPad after importing the pictures ask whether you want to delete the imported pictures where in the first couple of times I deleted the pictures by mistake from my SD Card (I would prefer if apple added an option where people can choose to not get this question).

I don't understand the issue with all of the other reviewers and if some of them are just dissing this accessory so consumers can focus on other 3rd party accessories.

This is a must buy for all photographers like me who were sick of being forced to include a laptop in the process of editing and posting pictures.

    Worked out of the box

    • Written by from BLOOMFIELD

I was worried it would not work after reading reviews. I had no issues and it sent my t4i images right down to the ipad. I wish it was cheaper or included, but it works thus far, so I am happy.Card reader did not affect the sd card- I placed sd back in the camera and it worked just fine. Place the reader on the ipad first, then place the card inside. Youtube as an excellent review of this reader.
