The Only Poorly Designed Apple Accessory I Have Ever Owned

    • Written by from Wichita

As much as I love my 13" MacBook Retina, I feel just the opposite about the MagSafe 2 adapter. It falls out of the port with the least effort and I find myself plugging it back in several times a night. The 90 degree plug on my previous MacBook Air was perfect, so why did Apple design and market an inferior failure as a follow-up?

    Keeps falling out.

    • Written by from El Paso

My Mac is perfect. Works perfectly. It's fast and beautiful, but the new MagSafe 2 adapter it's a disappointment. I have 2 Macs, an old 2010 Air with the old adapter and it works perfect, it's very hard to unplug. The new design it's so delicate that you can't have it on your lap (as you should because it's called a laptop). Any movement you make, makes it fall out. BIG DESIGN FAILURE.

    Piece of Junk

    • Written by from Portland

I've had my new MacBook Pro charger for about 2 months and I wish my old L shaped charger would fit in my new computer. As the other reviewers have said, this thing falls out all the time. Did the designers only test this sitting upright at a desk? The square shaped charger gets bumped out when you're using your computer on your lap, on your bed, when you lean it up against your couch or bed when you're not using it, or if even a small stack of papers gets in the way of it sitting flat. For a company that is so design-focused, Apple should be embarrassed to have such an ill-conceived product design.

    Okay

    • Written by from Fort Worth

Yeah, no surprise to come on here and see an overwhelming number of 1 star reviews. Don't think I need to repeat the thousands of other people complaining about these overpriced fire starters. Get it together Apple. Make them worth the price, or change the price to match the product. I'd suggest around 5 bucks as they are right now.

    Pretty Good So Far

    • Written by from Winnipeg

I haven't owned it for very long, but so far, it works great. I was moving some cords around and it "mag-safed" out of the computer which showed me the principle of the thing. It stays plugged in otherwise and it's not too hard to insert. I find it slightly expensive, but I think all chargers are.

    Magsafe 2 what a joke

    • Written by from leeds

It's useless, really, it is. Mine lights green but does not charge / lights orange but does not charge / does not light but still charges / does not light and doesn't charge... the only answer seems to be to wiggle it. I explained all this on the phone to Apple and pointed out that all of these were very well known issues... the Apple guy said 'Really??', I had to laugh.

Mine also fraying - piece of junk product IMO

    • Written by from Green Cove Springs

After a year and a half of light use, the cord on mine is also fraying and literally falling off the ground shield inside. The Genius Bar guy claimed it was just cosmetic, even though the conductors are obviously ready to bulge out. How long before Apple steps up to the plate, acknowledges there is a problem and fixes it? I've wrapped the cable of mine with good quality (3M "Professional Grade") electrical tape, from the brick to the magsafe connector. From all the similar reports I read here and elsewhere, and hear from candid salesmen like in BestBuy (after all the denials in the Apple Store), I feel that buying a replacement will be throwing money away. Now, every time I look at that abomination of a product, I am reminded how much I am growing to dislike Apple products and need to move off the Apple ecosystem.

    Utterly terrible

    • Written by from Atlanta

I've had two of these in a row die within nine months of purchase each. Simply put, the rubber splits, the wire frays and then finally snaps all the way through in under nine months. Worst charger I've ever had for a laptop.

    Apple 60W MagUNSafe

    • Written by from CUMMINGTON

Agree with others: The sheathing around this power cable tends to fray where the cord enters the adaptor, and when the wire becomes exposed it finally shorts out. The sales girl at the Apple store where I bought a replacement said it's never happened to her, but she doesn't travel for a living. Laptops are supposed to be durable for travel, and the power cord -- the cheapest component -- should be as well. So irritating and disappointing.

Wouldn't it be refreshing if Apple actually cared enough to respond to all these one-star reviews?

    Very poor product

    • Written by from Bowling Green

I am ordering my FOURTH charger in 5 years. The magnetic connector does not stay in. The cord frays. I do not have small children and I treat my electronics with much care. I am disappointed with the poor quality of this adapter. Apple, please design one that will last longer than a year.

    sent to recycle bin

    • Written by from Alhambra

I have used Apple products for about 24 years. This adapter has to be one of the worst accessories, if not the worst, Apple has put its name on. I had it for about 9 months when it frayed. Apple won't replace it even though the laptop still has a warranty. I sent it to the recycle bin at an Apple Store. Junk

Just bought this charger four months ago and it's already broken. Not to mention the fact that this was the third charger I have bought. If you're gonna make such a low quality charger then give a low quality price. C'mon apple, you're better than this.

Safety vs. Expense? I'll take safety!

    • Written by from Deland

This connection has help me avoid what would have been a sure trip and fall (certainly the MacBook, and possibly me) on more than one occasion. With this design Apple addresses a major concern: Safety. About the the longevity issue, I haven't had the adapter long enough to rate its longevity, nor have I experience with former models with which to compare it. Under the circumstances, I think I'm okay paying for a new adapter when this one breaks. I'll re-review when that time comes.

    It Falls Out

    • Written by from Santa Rosa

I've been using my new MacBook Pro for less than 24 hours and I've had to plug the MagSafe 2 into it about a dozen times because the slightest movement causes it to fall out. The adapter also sticks out from the computer so that it's easily bumped and the magnet is too weak to hold it in place. A very irritating step back from the MagSafe 1 that I used with my MB Air for 3 years, it worked perfectly. I really expect better design than this from Apple.

    Works greate for me!

    • Written by from Albany

I've been using this with my MacBook Pro for about 6 months and it has performed perfectly. The magnet is strong enough to stay attached, weak enough to release without dragging my mac across the table the couple of times someone has tripped over it, and the cord boots seem to provide a lot better support than the adaptors for my previous MacBooks.

    Constantly Detaches

    • Written by from Chicago

This charger is horrible. I had no problems with the MagSafe 1 which I used for 3.5 years without problem. I've had this new MagSafe 2 for my new computer for just a few months and I have had constant problems with it. It's fine if the computer is stationary on a flat surface, but this is a LAPTOP, it's meant to sit in laps and other surfaces and to be movable. As another reviewer said, just the tiniest bit of movement or the smallest bump and the charger detaches. It's extremely frustrating.
