Time capsule has been a source of problems in connecting with the internet. I had to bypass the capsule to connect to the modem.
I will not buy another with a new IMac.

Saved me buying a portable hardrive.

I absolutly love this product. My computer was so full of music and movies that I couldn't even enjoy the apple TV I purchased cuase the computer was just so slow. This made my day when I could store all my movies and music on it and then reference the information so that my computers and laptops were empty and free to run at peek efficency.

I have spoken to techs at apple about what I had purchased it for and they all said that there would be glitches since it's not what it was designed for. So far so good. But I would suggest that apple look into this and maybe design it for this purpose if some poeple are having problems.

This is by far the most usefull apple product I have bought yet.

    Thank You APPLE!

The time capsule was so easy to set up and like apple says, it works seamlessly with time machine. I'm very happy knowing all of my data is backed up and I won't ever lose it. All of my photos are on my mac, and if I lost them it would be terrible. The only things I'm concerned about is, as mentioned in other comments, it does heat up quite a bit, and I'm not talking about when it's doing a backup or whatever, just when it's on. The other thing is a lot of comments say it will last a year or two, hope that's not the case or that would change my rating greatly.

Works like a charm, Great Speed with new updates.

Ok so I bought an AirPort Extreme last year when I needed to upgrade to an N-Router, I have to say the AP Extreme was great, allowed me to get blazing fast speeds and it was very reliable didn't have to reset really at all.

So I picked up the 2TB Time Capsule this past weekend due to tax free weekend in MA and it's perfect for what my wife and I need. The updated specs are amazing and the speed that I'm getting when close and away from it are awesome, currently I'm working downstairs next to it and my Transfer Rate is 450Mbit/s on the 5GHz channel and upstairs I get around 275-350Mbit/s. Those are amazing speeds compared to previously. As for backup purposes it backed up my 106Gb image in about 4 hrs over the network.

Simply put this product has given me the best speeds I have ever had in my home. I will be setting up an AirPort Express upstairs for streaming audio from all of our various Apple products. I'm proud to say that we are an Apple Family for life.

My first one didn't work. Ethernet. Wireless. Nothing. No prob. It happens.

So I get this second one and finally get it to "work." It's connected to my wireless router from Time Warner. It works a few minutes then quits. So I switch over to my T-W network directly. I can surf a little bit longer, but then IT quits. This happens over and over again for several days.

So I figured these two were butting heads. No prob. I disconnect the Time Capsule and move it to the other end of the apartment. Connected to it only when I wanted to explicitly back up. No prob. Only my MacBook Pro keeps losing it when I switch back to the Time Capsule network. No prob. I decide to never, ever again surf with my MacBook Pro. Just with my iPad. The MacBook Pro sticks exclusively to the Time Capsule network. The MacBook Pro STILL keeps losing track of the Time Capsule. And STILL has to find it again. And I STILL waking up every freakin' morning to see that stupid "!" symbol in the Time Machine icon at the top of the screen.

No problem. I'll connect the Time Capsule directly to the MacBook Pro via ethernet. Of course I could have spent a lot less money on a stupid firewire hard drive that did the same thing but even better. But No. Freakin'. Problem.

Only it completely shuts down my wireless networking. I'm about to take a sledgehammer to this worthless thing and throw its remnants in the dumpster. Only tomorrow morning I'm going to call up Apple to try and send it on its way.

I have no idea who's writing all these good reviews for this thing. It's awful.

I have read many of the bad reviews for this product and certainly can appreciate negative opinions of a product that fails after a year. However, I thought that it was only fair to recount a positive experience. We have had our Time Capsule for about a year and a half and did not think much about it; until this morning. My five year old daughter decided to decorate my MacBook with magnets. After the crash all we could get was the apple logo. We used the OS X install disk and the Time Capsule and restored the machine. Granted, this could have been done with any external hard drive, as long as you remember to connect it. We could not be happier with this product.

Don't buy this product, it will break

The power supply broke on me after about 12-14 months and now I'm stuck with a $400 brick (and no router!). Apple can't perform any data extraction - they'll only replace the broken gear. This is apparently a more-than-common manufacturing flaw and I would avoid Time Capsule at all costs.

I bought the time capsule hoping it would be easy out of the box. Well, I was wrong. At first it worked fine with Leopard. Then when I updated to Snow Leopard, it stopped working. It wouldn't back up. It kept freezing and I had to restart the computer again. Reset the Time Capsule and setting several times. I also called tech support several times regarding this matter and it still isn't working. It hasn't backed up anything and it has been reset back to factory setting. The router works great though, but that isn't why I bought it. I wanted it to back up my pictures, videos and music. What good is it to have the router working great with no way of backing up your computer. Do I want to lose everything I have??? Of course not, so I'm returning it after dealing with tech support for the past two weeks.

    Time Machine

I am new to Macs. I wanted something that was easy to set up and worked with my Time Machine software. Set up was very easy and straightforward. For a newbie this was just what I wanted, and well worth the price. I can sleep well at night knowing that green light on the TC is glowing bright and protecting my files/photos/& music. I would highly recommend Time Capsule as a backup!

The Time Capsule, in combination with the Time Machine software, works well for keeping all your Mac files backed up. I've been using it for just over a month, and twice I have been able to restore files (from an hour before) that I couldn't have before. The wireless router works well too. I have the unit on the top floor of a two story house that also has a basement. Signal is good on all levels, although the outside patio comes and goes sometimes. I could probably solve that by relocating the unit and my cable modem. There may be a cheaper way to accomplish these two tasks, but there are probably none this easy.

Bought my Time Capsule yesterday to replace old Belkin that was dropping internet connection. Set up was simple. Recognized my previous network and asked me if I wanted to join. Done. Wireless printer would not print initially but the problem was a WEP password needed to be inputted into Airport Utility. Backup went smoothly. So Far so Good no dropped internet connections.

I purchased it to replace router & hard drive that not working all the time. So far I like. It was plug and play with time machine on my iMac and Mac book Pro and Wifi was simple to install. The bonus ability to be able to print wireless with my Mac book pro was nice. All I needed was a driver to be installed. It works great and the signal seems to be stronger and faster then my Linksys N wrt150.

This is amazing... its wifi is fast and I get to back up all my data. The only complaint is it took a while to set up. Not the time capsules fault though, it was the isp.
If you own a computer this is a must buy.

My new time Capsule kept saying it was "unable to find hard drive" when attempting to backup with Time Machine over wifi. After restarting the device I could get my MBP to recognize it again, but after this happened too many times I decided to return it. Also on its third day the Time Capsule said there was a "verification" problem and had to backup my entire computer from scratch again, erasing any old backup. Oof. The point of having a backup is feeling safe, and I just don't feel safe with these errors. Too bad, such a great concept. But sometimes the Steve Jobs motto "it just works" just isn't true.

TM provides great wireless coverage throughout my 3,100 square foot house -- on all 3 levels. It's signal is strong enough to stream to Apple TV & wireless printers. Plus, you can back up all your important data. Don't wait, just buy it!!
