LOVE. Finally a wifi that covers my home and all of my devices. EASILY

Long story short, 6500 sqft home, thousands wasted on installers, numerous WIFI units and repeaters you name it. Then I discovered the AirPort! Why doesn Apple advertise this more ? because then every idiot would have perfect WIFI that you never have to complain about and then what would everyone talk about ? we would have to discuss how our day was and what we did on the weekend! BORING, so lets keep the fools talking about their useless WIFI coverage and speed (the opposite of what I now have thanks to the AirPort Extreme.
I placed the base station in my media server rack in basement and an AirPort Express in the HVAC room on the 3rd floor and BOOM! you just plug that mf in and it works. Just like in a dream, when you are flying and then you wake up. But this is TRUE. Apple, will you marry me? Ive also consumed 3x Redbull Silvers which offered me no WIFI coverage once plugged in but made the connecting of the AirPorts even faster than it already could have been.

Thanks Apple, lets just keep this amazing setup between us.

We have been having "issues" with our internet for months now. We thought maybe it was just poor service until we decided to update our router and came across the AirPort Extreme. We are a household with many devices that connect to the internet (laptop, iPads, iPhones, iPods, kindles, tv, playstation, etc etc) I only wish that we had found this a long time ago! It only took about 10 minutes to set it up and have the wi-fi working. I also really like the guest network that you can set up so now when my daughters have friends over we can connect them to the guest network. Since installing this we have not been disconnected once!!! It is truly an amazing product and I would highly recommend this to anyone.

    Airport Extreme Usage

I had windows based modems prior. When I went to upgrade after failure of my last Modem I could not find the one I had read about. So I asked the computer nerd at Best Buy and he handed me an Airport Extreme and stated this was the best on the market. As far as I am concerned he was right. I recommend this to any body that asks.

To provide better coverage in a multi-level home, I recently replaced a Linksys router with the Extreme and a single Airport Express. From opening the boxes to a functioning network required about 15 minutes and the performance is outstanding. Easily connected a HP 1102W for wireless printing from two Windows PCs, iMac, MacBook, two iPads and two iPhones.

I went from an airport express that had run its course, 8 years of faithful service to the extreme and i couldn't be happier. We run several mobile devices, a tv, a play station and 2 computers off the network and it just works! Easy setup, has only been reset once in 3 weeks and the connection is flawless, couldn't ask for more from a router.

I love this product. I didn't know much about computers and/or wifi setups. When i bought my MacbookAir the guy at the store suggested I get this because it also has memory storage built in. The setup was the easiest and now all my devices are connected to Base Station. (I also bought the Apple TV and i have an iPhone 4s)
All my photos I take from my phone automatically download to the Base Station when I get close to home. I dont have to worry about running out of space on my computer either with the 2tb of memory. It's a great product that makes using my computer easy.

    Poorer quality than expected

The router worked well for about 8 months. Now it takes forever for our devices to connect, and the speed is often much lower than a wired Ethernet connection, even after the channel is changed to reduced interference.

I tried a dlink and a linksys before this one. Neither of the first two had enough range for the whole house they would be connected through the whole house but would get bad speed tests when in certain areas of the house and I live in a villa so not crazy big. Got this took 3 mins to setup turned my Mac on selected the wireless and it auto prompted me to set it up. Typed in wifi name and password boom done. For those saying it doesn't have much config it has enough to where you can open ports thats all I need a router to do to RDP to machines outside the network. Easy worth the money thanks apple!

Just reaced my 10 year old router with an AirPort Extreme and am pleased it resolved the sporadic connection issues I was experiencing with my iDevices and wireless HP Photoprinter. Setup was very simple and quick with all my devices. I'm a past Windows user and am still surprised how easy it is to setup Apple products, I'm fully Appleized now!

I am so happy with my new Airport Exreme Base Station! My old AT&T 2WIRE Wi-Fi could barely send a signal to my old Compaq Desktop Computer upstairs (12 to 18Mbps), including an AT&T internal wireless card. I replaced the card with a NetGear USB Wi-Fi a/b/g/n card, I now have 117Mbps instead of 18, and the downstairs computer in plug into the Ethernet Port, it's now at 1Gbps, instead of 100Mbps! I should of done this years ago, instead of using my iPhone 4 to do all of my Banking... From now on, I am buying only Apple Products...

I replaced a Linksys DIR 655 with a new Apple Extreme Base Station. Wireless coverage throughout my entire house is way better. I have 5 bars where I previously had 1.
    Everything works better!

Should have bought one of these years ago

A must have for this family!

We have a house run by Apple. Between the kids, my parents, the Mac mini the iPhones, the iPads, the iPod touches, the Apple TVs and friends that come over to visit, it is such a blessing not to worry about signal strength. At any given time we can have 15 to 20 users of various devices doing anything from gaming to homework to downloading music. And it is our back-up. The kids can come home from school and sync and backup the days work without fear. Love it! A must have for this family! We would not live without it.

Nice piece of hardware but software lacks key required features for me

    • Written by from Long Island city

While I like the feature specifications and performance, Apple seems to be going down their usual road of we'll do everything we _think_ you need and you can't do any more yourself. Most notably, the Airport Utility version 6 and up does not allow you to see what IP addresses the device has assigned on your network.

So, if you buy a new toy, plug it into your network and then need to know its IP address you can no longer find it. There are hacks out there for installing an older version of Airport Utility but in the Apple world those will break sooner or later and you're stuck with this very horrible experience.

I bought a new NAS device, booted it and now have no idea how to get to it to set it up. Boo Apple, Boo!!

If these situations do not affect you, then I would recommend this piece of hardware. If they do, look elsewhere. I personally have had many good experiences with D-Link.

My old router was dropping signal about every third day, so I decided to upgrade. After a ton of research, I selected the AirPort Extreme Base Station. The setup was simple and took about 10 minutes in all. I am running 2 iMac's, a MacBook Pro, an iPad and 2 iPhones without issue. Great speed and extremely reliable. The coverage is great upstairs, downstairs, and in the backyard. Highly Recommend!!!

End of the Love Affair w/ my Airport Extreme

    • Written by from APO

I have had my Airport Extreme for two years now. It has worked flawlessly for the majority of the time. It is the hub for our wireless network including a Win 7 desktop, Win Vista (stop snickering) laptop, Mac Mini, iPhone 3GS, iPad 4, iPad Mini, and Lexmark Printer. Up until recently, all devices connected flawlessly with stable connections at impressive speeds.

This all changed about two months ago. I am not sure if it was due to a firmware update, increase in network traffic in our building, or that the device itself is failing, but the range of the Airport Extreme has been literally cut in half. Now, we can barely get a signal even in the next room. I went through all the channels thinking it might be signal interference before buying an Airport Express in hopes of extending, strengthening, and stabilizing the connection. Nothing seems to work. The connections are weak and intermittent.

The Airport Extreme was awesome when it was working properly, but a mere two years later, there is definitely something wrong. I do not know if the device has simply reached the end of its life cycle or if the recent software updates crippled it. Either way, I think the love affair with my Airport Extreme is over; it is obviously time to move on.

A great wireless router. My Netgear N600 was still working couldn't keep up with all the gadgets in my house. AEBS is easy to install, network set up was a cake, and can easily handle 2 iphones, 2 ipads, 2 laptops, 1 xbox, 1 PS3, and my bluray player.
