    Doesn't Fit the Phone

    • Written by from Bronxville

I bought the bumper case for the iPhone 4 way back when those products were new. Case worked great. I reused the old case on the 4S I got a year ago. The rubber eventually started to separate from the plastic part of the case so I thought, hey time for another bumper case. I bought a new one from the Apple Store, it said it was compatible with the 4S. I put it on and, man, is the fit tight. It's so tight that it presses the volume and the sleep/wake buttons. This has been a big problem. I have the screen randomly turn off while I'm using the phone because of the pressure the case exerts on the sleep/wake button, I've had phone calls end for the same reason. For this much money and this little case, it should fit better. It should fit like it used to. QC is slipping, or most likely Apple's vendor's are trying to cheat a little material out of each product by making it smaller, tighter, trying to save a penny here or there. I say make the product like you used to and charge $29.02. I fixed my case by spending time to stretch out the plastic. It works okay now, still not as good as the old case. I'll probably buy a more substantial case from a different vendor in the future.

    Bumper does not fit phone

    • Written by from Williamsville

Same experience as other reviewers. The bumper's power on/off/sleep button constantly pushes down on the phone's power button, causing the power off screen to appear. Unbelievably bad quality from Apple and really maddening, especially when you buy it in a store and have to go all the way back to the store to return it.

Flawed Design - Too Tight to Use!

    • Written by from Arlington

Like many other reviewers here, I had an Apple iPhone Bumper for over a year and a half and it worked really, really well. 20 months after buying it, it was finally tattered enough that I decided to go to the Apple Store to buy a new one.

I got home and Lo and Behold! Apple messed up the simple Bumper! It fit too tightly over the power button which caused it to regularly prompt the "power off swipe screen" and flash the lock screen on and off. I thought I had just picked up a bad Bumper from the Apple Store until I read its reviews on here and found that a significant number of people were experiencing the same problem. I'm scratching my head wondering how something like this wasn't noticed by the (usually competent) folks at Apple...

I am going to return the Bumper tomorrow and get a different iPhone case altogether. Here's the lesson I learned:

IF YOU BUY THE APPLE iPHONE BUMPER, YOU'RE GONNA HAVE A BAD TIME.

    Sadly disappointed

    • Written by from GREENSBORO

I bought a iPhone 4S last year and also purchased the black bumper which worked fine. It finally wore out, so, I went to the Apple store to get another thinking it would be the same. I tossed the old one in the trash. A few days having the new one, I too noticed it was turning on & off my phone with the slightest bump or touch. This was running my battery down significantly. Thinking it was just a bad bumper, I took it back to the store, showed the employee the issue, & he agreed and gave me a new one. Before leaving the store, I tried the new one on, & it was the same way. We were both dumbfounded. It seems that this new bumper is made differently, and has a longer rigid piece of plastic throughout the top where the power/sleep button is. And therefore, pushes on the top button in close proximity. They are all like this! Someone at Apple should look into this issue.

    Doesn't fit, better get a third-party case.

    • Written by from Athens

I really wanted to get the iPhone bumper due to its streamlined design, so I did. But when I put it on, it was too tight and kept pressing on the sleep/wake button. Tried putting it back on a few more times, it just kept pressing the button. There's was no way of getting it fit properly, so I got myself another case instead. Plus, it's too expensive for $30.

    Just right...

The iPhone 4 is a amazingly small and light phone, just too slippery. This bumper allows for some grip without too much change to the look and feel of the phone. Fits great. Solves the antenna issue. Still goes in and out of a pocket with ease. Works perfectly with the Arkon vent mount.

    Great case

    • Written by from Pearl River

I got tired of bulky cases of which I have had many trying them out. Granted, I have never dropped my 4S with any case, so I can't say if this case provides the same protection as others. In light of that, the Apple bumper looks fantastic, fits tightly on phone, as close to carrying it "naked" as you can get, yet still provides drop protection and has a good grip. The wife has a 5 and would love to have one, but it's not availiable. If you are rough on your phone, maybe choose another. My favorite case so far.

    too tight

    • Written by from Toronto

just bought black bumper from the apple store yesterday. bumper keeps on pressing the sleep button. keeps wanting to shut my phone off. my screen is ALWAYS ON. my old bumper was ok, i don't remember having this problem before. i guess they decided to change the design and make it tighter. only way to avoid bumper from pressing on the sleep button is to pinch rubber lining in to create some space between the bumper and the button. of course, this will ensure the bumper breaks down faster.

Save your money and protect your phone

    • Written by from Mississauga

I highly recommend this to anyone who would like to spend a lot of money and have the steal band on their iPhone terribly scratched. Seriously, its ridiculous when I realize how this product is suppose to protect the phone, but really damages it! Stay away!

    HAVE HAD 2 - THEY LAST ABOUT 10 - 12 MONTHS

    • Written by from BEDFORD

I cannot recommend the Apple bumper. I have had two, one for a 4 and one for a 4S. Both were purchased at the Apple store, and both lasted about one year. At about 10 months, the softer rubber around the front edges begins to peel away in thin strips, and the hard plastic frames on both bumpers I owned cracked all the way through on one side of the charging port. I had virtually the same experiences with both bumpers, and that is what compelled me to write this review. I am a 53 year old female, and my phones get very little wear. My phone sits on my desk all day, is in a designated pocket in my purse when I am running errands, and is on my nightstand to charge in the evenings. I charge my phone with the bumper on, so the bumpers were not removed daily to charge my phones. For $30, I consider the Apple bumper to be a poor value considering they begin to deteriorate in well less than a year.

    Loved it for about a year. . . .

Loved for about a year. Protects the phone without adding bulk making it fit easily in my pocket. After about a year it fell apart. For $30 it should last longer.

    The demise of quality control.

    • Written by from Alexandria

I was happy with the first one of these I got a year or more ago, aside from the tiny headphone jack opening. When the rubber disintegrated after being pulled off and on too many times to get access to the headphone jack, I got a replacement at the Apple store; it was a tiny fraction of an inch too short, and depressed the sleep button. I returned it to the same store and got a new one and it has the same problem. So now my phone is constantly trying to turn itself off. Looks like someone at Foxconn didn't get the metric/SAE conversion right.

Seems to be a flaw in this product

    • Written by from Midland

I had one of these bumpers for about 6 months and ended up damaging the bumper (not the phone!) by dropping it. I liked it a lot so I ordered a new one. However, I cannot get the new bumper to seat properly over the sleep / wake button on top of the phone. The slightest pressure anywhere along the top of the bumper will activate this button. So, I'm going to try returning it and take my chances on a 2nd one - maybe they are not all defective. I really love it .... I hope I can get one that works. With this bumber and a good screen protector front and back, your iPhone is not only sleek but well protected.

Wore out in about a year

    • Written by from Edgartown

I love the bumper, except that one can not use the phone to connect to a car mp3. However, it has already worn out, sides started separating after about a year. For $29 it should last longer. I dont suppose there is a warranty?

    Wears out far too quickly

    • Written by from New York

I expected this bumper to work well as a simple case -- protecting from simple drops and scratches-- and it has done that. However, the rubber has deteriorated rather quickly (after just a few months into the hopefully 2 year life of my phone) and it not longer grips the sides evenly. For $5, I would buy every few months, but for $30 it simply isn't worth it.

I bought this from the 5th Avenue Apple Store 1 Year ago and I only used it on my iPhone 4S. I have to admit it is a little bit bulky but really does protect it from falls and hits.

    Nice minimal case

    • Written by from Greenfield

I bought this case from Verizon when I got my iphone, because I wanted something that was minimal and wouldn't make my phone bulky. This case is exactly that and surprisingly protects my phone very well. I've dropped it off of my desk and had it fall out of my pocket onto the driveway and the front and back glass were fine. I also like the new design because the headphone area doesn't stretch out when I take it off and put it back on. The only bad things about the case are that the headphone port is very small and most headphones won't fit into it and when dirt gets under the bumper it scratches the metal on the side of my phone. If you want a minimal case that protects, this is for you.
