    I like this...but a couple of tips

    Tried this with a Canon 40D - worked first time, Canon 350D - worked but I had to change the Communication (USB) setting from PC to Printer/PTP (not obvious) and Canon G10 just worked (I say all this cause I still can't find the compatible camera list!)
    Also tried a couple of memory sticks which initially said 'Not supported' which is actually a lie, I copied the directory structure from one of the cameras onto an unsupported memory stick and suddenly it worked (why doesn't the message say something like 'no images found'- why do apple make things difficult). Would give it 5 stars but still annoyed that the original camera kit for the ipod doesn't work on the ipad. Also, integration with Aperture could be improved, it forces you to use Apples directory naming standards on import and you not your own. Hope all this helps somebody

    Great with cameras, so so with SD cards

    Works fine when connecting to a camera. I use it fine with my Nikon D70 and Olympus Stylus Tough 6000. Also works fine with my Sandisk 2GB SD card. However, when I tried it with the higher capacity Sandisk 4GB SDHC card, which is what most cameras use today, it says that it is not a supported USB device. So, if you plan on using it with any type of High Capacity SDHC card, think twice or get confirmation that it is compatible with your specific card first.

    One other note is that when the 4GB SDHC card is in the camera and tethered using the USB adapter instead of the SD reader, it reads the card fine. It just takes away the convenience of being able to download your files without having to be tethered to a camera.

    I reluctantly went ahead and bought the Camera Connection Kit after reading all the reviews. I was looking for a way to import my pics from my phone, Canon G11, to my iPad while traveling so that I might email and manipulate them. I read a lot of the reviews and they seemed either very positive or very negative. Basically the product either worked for the person or it did not, no in between. I realized that for my purposes, if the kit worked, I was all set. It did work without a hitch. I have not tried the RAW format nor have I tried the card slot. I can see great advantages to having a USB port in the iPad and I was really hoping Apple would have put it in the new generation iPad. Alas it will have to wait. Shame on Apple for "dumbing down" the product to take away people's creative outlet (inlet). I await the real USB port in an iPad! Advice for this kit: Try it, if it works for you, Great. If not, return it.

    Very Useful but needs Software Improvement

    After importing your photos, you can't move them out of the "Imported Photos" folder, until you plug the iPad to iTunes. The photos app should allow you to select the album where you'd like to save the photos before importing them.

    Not compatible with SDXC cards

    Awesome product, but it is not compatible with SDXC cards. I am pretty disappointed that the 64gb SDXC card that I purchased is not compatible with this device, which I bought for my my new camera to use with the iPad 2. My SDHC cards do work with it, so I am happy about that, I just wish I had known that the SDXC card was not compatible because I wouldn't have purchased that card had I known that.

    A must have for iPad owners

    This is a must if you intend to take your iPad along with your digital camera. The pictures transferred from my SD card into the iPad very fast and the user interface is nice.

    The USB connector did not work with my 3G iPhone. Not sure why but neither the iPhone nor the iPad recognized the other. Of course I changed the cable and made sure connections were tight. No luck. So, if you have a 3G iPhone, take a note of this issue.

    Finally, the only complaint I have about this product is the way it's packaged. The two connectors come in a little tiny box and inside a plastic envelop that is open from both ends. Just exactly where does Apple think we are going to store this little, easily misplaced connectors? And why not combine both of them in a single connector?

    DCIM folder needed

    This may not work for everyone, but neither item worked for me until I made a main folder on my USB stick or sd card named "DCIM"' into which you then put your pictures. My iPad 2 then could read and upload them. You don't need to make the files DCIM, jpeg works, just naming the folder that does it, which makes no sense but at least it worked.

    My first iPad disappointment

    So my rating doesn't match the title. Because the product is great, the iPad is the issue. I researched and checked supported formats because I wanted to take movies and photos from my Kodak Zi8 video camera. I imported (from the SD Card) but the movies won't play. They are in H.264 (MOV), AAC LC format and I can't do anything with them. The whole point was to not depend on a PC/Mac and file conversion software. Therefore, disappointed

    SD card connector

    Sd card connects quickly and photos are imported easily. However after the choice to clear the card or keep the photos there is no option to "safely remove" the sd card. Just pulling the card out results in it needing to be formatted in camera before it will work again. Powering down the iPad sorts this as far as I can see.

    Is this a common problem or is it just me ?

    SLR to IPad2

    Ok folks,
    I was having the same issues as a lot of you. On my cannon 20D I was getting the USB doesn't support prompt and on my point and shoot nikon I was getting not enough power prompt when using USB. In the menu of the cannon there is a section in the tools section called communication. The factory setting is normal, change it to PTP. This made the connector work. I used the card reader connector for the nikon and it worked.

    Just what I wanted

    Must admit that I bought the camera connection kit with trepidation after reading a lot of the reviews. But it works perfectly for what I wanted....the ability to download photos right from the SD card from my Panasonic Lumix camera. It will be perfect for traveling. And connecting my husband's iPhone worked great, too. The only thing that didn't work was the micro card from my Blackberry. But that would have just been a bonus!

    Great Product But PLEASE UPDATE!!!!

    Great product for the price. Had no issues connecting my Nikon D60 with the SD card reader adapter to my iPad2. Really helpful in eliminating the computer from the equation and making the iPad self-sufficient.

    APPLE: Please further eliminate the computer from the equation by adding an update that will allow the iPad to recognize an external hard drive/flash drive via the USB Adapter.

    Worked great for me

    Since I rely on reviews I had read many here some were mixed. I had concerns but went a head with buying the connection kit as it hopefully would fulfill a big need of mine. I cruise a lot and take hundreds of pictures. I always bring my 15" Macbook Pro for email, picture transfer/backup etc. I am looking to eliminate need to take the laptop with me and for that to happen I require a method to backup the photo's off camera card in case of camera loss etc. Turns out using the Ipad as backup coupled, especially with iPhoto app on Ipad makes whole picture thing far more useful that using laptop. Far easier to review and dump photo's don't need and establish the ones to keep.

    Bottom line this connector transferred photos and video fast. I was extremely happy in the transfer process. Simply plugged into Ipad then inserted 16gb Ultra card HC I sandisk. Up popped the thumbnails and options, downloaded, even then offers keep or erase on card option. I kept then did it for next days shots, options complete with option to download all or new etc.

    Worked fine every time! Note the iPhoto app is not needed to transfer that is done with normal Ipad picture functioning, all automatically just plugging in card.

    Came home and for once had already edited down my 350 photo's to 175 thanks to reviewing them on the Ipad. Simply transferred them to my desktop.

    Easy peasy

    I love this, it works perfectly with my Nikon. The only obstacle was disabling my cameras USB charging function which prompts the "Accesory Unavailable" alert. Once that function is disabled it is smooth sailing! Just a heads up to those that can't get around the "Accesory Unavailable" prompt!

    It works and love it for the ipad, BUT why not iPhone? Is that to perfect?

    Works as promised very well. So no complaints. But wow, it would just really save my day as a professional photographer to connect my Nikon D3 to the iPhone and send my photos off to clients after they were thru Snapseed or similar photo.
    Why is that dear Apple?

    iPad adaptors

    I use the SD card adaptor o transfer all of my photos from my Nikon. It always transfers without any problems. One note. You should not use you camera to directly download your photos through the USB adaptor. There is always a possibility that your camera or card could be damaged. Always remove the card and plug it into the SD adaptor.

    Disadvantages to this kit

    Whilst the camera kit is ideal for downloading from sd cards it has no facility for compact flash other than through the camera. So that's ok just plug the camera in via the USB connector.

    Big problem cannot transfer files with USB memory stick. Why not? Error shows not enough power. iPad fully charged, tried 2gb and 8gb USBs -no luck.

    Good product, bad instructions

    Don't return it yet !!! It's not plug and play, but by googling I learned the following for using the SD card:

    1. The images on the SD card MUST be inside a folder named DCIM (just like a camera)
    2. The file name CANNOT exceed 8 characters, plus the suffix. Example: 12345678.jpg

    Don't ask me why these are the rules..... I was so frustrated....I made sure these rules applied and then it worked perfectly. Works for loading .mp4 files too.

    It works with iPad mini and lightning to 30-pin kit

    I used this with my iPad 3 and it worked wonders.
    I got the iPad mini and used it with my Lightening to to 30-pin adapter with both the SD card and USB adapter and it works mostly like a charm. The SD card had no issues, but with the USB cable. I had to get a 6" USB cable to work with my camera. I used to be able to use my 12" and above USB cable with no issues. Now it shows that it is drawing too much power. I also used to be able to use my Sandisk USB thumb drive, but same issue now. Overall it serves its purpose and I don't have to now buy two separate Lightening adapters for $30 a piece! I can use my old 30-pin USB cables with the $30 Lightening to USB adapter and the 30-pin camera kit for $30. I hope they don't remove this option in future software/hardware updates.

    Side note, thank you Apple for finally bringing the Lightening to Micro USB port adapter. But $19... Wish you brought the 30-pin to Micro USB port adapter to the States.
