    Almost a Paperweight.

    • Written by from SAULT SAINTE MARIE

With Front Row being phased out the remote is now semi-uselessl. The remote will work with iTunes, but it's buggy and the Menu button on the remote has almost no functionality with Lion.

Now that I have upgraded to the almighty Lion I cannot use my remote anymore because Front Row which is on snow leopard has been taken off, Quick assemble the Geniuses and lets have the remote compatible with Lion.

Great product if using with Snow Lepord.. otherwise.. useless with Lion!!!!

    • Written by from Harrow Weald

I love apple. I think they show so much class in product design and go-to-market than any other manufacturer out there! However.. with this.. Steve.. (even though you've gone).. apple did a bit of a BOO BOO! Seriously.. to miss out front row with Lion.. surely someone in the development team must have tested this and realised this didn't work. It's like polishing up a brand new mustang and selling it to customers without any tyres. Looks good to sit in but ain't gone take you very far. Come on apple. Please please make an update for Lion and get this out for us Lion customers. Gosh, imagine what life will be like WITH the new apple remote as a means to guide us through our very own desired content! P.s. still buy the darn thing.. its just so lovely to look at. Might frame mine.

Apple Remote's most important Menu button doesn't work with Lion!!

    • Written by from Singapore

The current Apple Remote is a work of art - beautifully crafted, though too much bigger than the old white Apple Remote which was the size of a chewing gum pack - that was neat. While the new remote looks beautiful with it's aluminum finish, the all important Menu button doesn't work with Lion! Apple, please look into this quickly - worst still, I ordered my Apple Remote along with the new 15" MBP that comes loaded with Lion, and I was not told or neither was it indicated anywhere that this remote will note have full functionality with the Lion OS! So, you've sold me a volume control for SGD28!! Please do something about this asap.

Apple remote doesn't work on OS X Lion

    • Written by from Greve in Chianti

The apple remote works perfectly on OS X Snow Leopard!!!
But after the upgrade (Snow Leopard -> Lion) the apple remote doesn't work.
The menu button does't work, in fact you can't choose photos, slide shows of your albums, movies and many other things in the menu screen.

    UUUUUGGGGHHHHH! A waste now!

    • Written by from Fontana

So I was all excited to get this remote cause I have oodles of movies stored on a hard drive and was thinking how nice this would be utilizing Front Row. So I drove 30 mins to the nearest Apple Store and all the way back....open it up and press the menu button...and NOTHING! No movie...no front row. It somehow went unmentioned that THERE IS NO FRONT ROW IN THE LION OPERATING SYSTEM!

This now renders the Apple Remote utterly useless other than starting and stopping your song in itunes. BOO! Totally not worth the purchase! Now I am gonna have to make a trip to the nearest apple store again (gas=$$$) and return this ASAP!

Why would they disable something that worked so well?

    • Written by from London

I have an autistic boy who taught himself to use the Apple remote. He likes to watch movies on Front Row (a lot). After installing the Lion "upgrade", the "menu" part of the remote no longer works. Now we have to be around to start the movie (and shut it down) for him. I tried the remote to our Apple TV thinking the batteries might be weak in the original remote - nope, same thing! I even went as far as to buy a new battery for the remote. Still nothing.

Why would Apple push something through like this? Now the remote is a volume control for the iMac, and not much more.

This is going to cause a lot of frustration until Apple fixes this.

Does not work with OS X Vista (I mean Lion)

    • Written by from Vine Grove

This was a very nice tool with Snow Leopard, worked great! Since I upgraded to Lion (they removed Front Row), it only controls iTunes - when I say it controls iTunes, I mean you can play a song or video that is already selected but you cannot change the selection. Additionally, you can control the volume; otherwise, it is useless now.

    • Written by from Milton keynes

This was a fantastic gadget for Snow Leopard and i would have given 5 stars. However now i have upgraded to Lion it does little else than control the volume in iplayer as Front Row no longer exists. Please bring back Front Row for Lion!!

Runs multiple devices at the same time

    • Written by from Phoenix

I have my Mac desk top and Apple TV in the same room. The remote drives me crazy because it will control both my Mac and apple tv at the same time. To picture how frustrating this can be, imagine every time u start a show on Netflix it starts up my music on my computer at the same time. Then if u attempt to stop the music you of course stop the show at the same time. (even if computer is in sleep mode it will pull it out of it)

I have basically deemed It obsolete and just use my iPad as the remote. The only issue with this is if I leave the house with my iPad my family is SOL if they want to watch TV

Not up to my expectations for Apple.

    • Written by from Fairfield

From a purely functional standpoint the remote performs as advertised. However from an ergonomics standpoint it is terrible. It is too small to be held comfortably in the hand, even for someone with small hands. The buttons are awkwardly placed and require you to adjust your grip to operate it. The click wheel from the ipod is mimicked in the design but it is in fact a faux click wheel that is really a directional pad. You can advance through menus by pressing => but you cant back through them the same way, you have to hit the awkward menu button. Until apple updates this I wouldn't waste my money. The Remote App for iphone or ipod is far superior, easier to use and has more functions.

Not for new MacBook Air :(

    • Written by from Cleveland

Bought it to go with my new MacBook Air, guess what: no infrared port... Really?!
Now I have to carry around a bulky USB presenter instead of the nice Apple one.

Apple please mention this in the description of the remote!

An accessory that requires more accessories

    • Written by from Lakewood

I should have looked closer before purchasing the apple remote as it does not control the iPhone without the phone being in a universal dock. I was excited to control my phone from across the room with it hooked up to my stereo, only to discover I have to purchase another accessory to do so. I will sadly be making my first return of an Apple product:-(

    Not available for new MacBooks!

    • Written by from Salem

I'm quite upset this option isn't available for the MacBook anymore, because it doesn't have IR. I absentmindedly tried using the remote control of my old MacBook on my new one to adjust the volume of my music from across the room. Needless to say, it didn't work, and this product won't work either. Now I have to stop what I'm doing, get up, and move to the computer to change the volume. . . thanks for the exercise?

Despite the fact that the idea behind Apple Remote is quite handy, the functions are very limited. But that's not the main issue.

The remote keeps losing its connection with my MacBook Pro. So you're all set on your couch, watching a few movies and tv shows, listening to some songs, podcasts via Front Row... all is good until, suddenly, the Apple Remote just stops working.

To solve that, you need to get up, stop whatever media you're currently watching/listening, close Front Row, access System Preferences > Security, disable and re-enable the remote control infrared receiver. AND YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DO IT EVERY TIME THIS ISSUE HAPPENS (WHICH IS QUITE OFTEN). And this is the only solution offered by Apple support.

So what's the point in having a remote control, if you have to keep getting back to your computer to make it work???

I'm sorry, but until Apple gets it together, this is absolutely USELESS.
