I have one of these for my apple tv and i love it. It is strong, definitely because i dropped from about 7 feet and it still works and i love how small it is, i actually forgot it in my pocket once while traveling to school.

I got this remote because I'm lazy. I want to play my movies and music without getting up and when I received it today, that's exactly what I did and it worked perfectly. Easiest setup in the world, very light and thin, and simple to use. 10/10

    For College Classes

    • Written by from rockwell

I bought this today for a class project. I was using a wireless mouse to go through power point presentations... and after being embarrassed by accidentally right clicking... I decided to get this thing. Its small and feels flimsy, but the uni-body design reassures me it is strong. on top of that, im using a Macbook Pro Mid 2011 upgraded to Lion, and it works great. People need to realize its a remote, not a genie.

    Mostly Pointless

    • Written by from La Crosse

The remote works great, but found out after purchasing the remote is almost completely pointless when used with Mac OS X: Lion. The "menu" button is useless on the mac, as the former only use for this button was for "Front Row" which was discontinued. The remote works perfect on the Apple TV, and is the only device I would recommend the use of this on.

Apple continues to make tools that work across multiple platforms

    • Written by from Bonney Lake

My family has been converting to Apple for about 2 years. I think we are complete. I was surprised when I bought Apple TV that the remote that came with it actually worked on both of our Macs too. NICE. I didn't need to buy another accessory. What ever you are doing in design and customer relations... Keep it up!

    Quit complaining

    • Written by from Croydon

To those who keep gripping about how upgrading to Lion totally killed their experience, use Plex or Boxee (support discontinued). Both are ≥ to Front Row, and have more functions for the remote.

That aside, this is the best piece of hardware in the universe. Its well built. And small. what more needs to be said?

    COOLEST THING EVER!!

    • Written by from bassett

I ordered this remote with my MacBook Air, it came in before the MacBook. The 1st thing that impressed me was how thin the remote was, 2nd was i figured I would have to set it up with my computers but much to my surprise I did not. I accidentally hit a button and my iMac came on and my jaw dropped. Another thing i was worried about was it would only be compatible with one mac but no it works with both of my computers and i can mess with my friends by turning their music on in class! For $19 you can't go wrong.

Beautifully made, works well, but for what?!

    • Written by from Bronxville

With Lion Apple removed FrontRow which is the ONLY reason i bought the remote in the first place. The remote works well when you are mid-movie, or already listening to music, but that's annoying. I am using this remote on my Mac Mini that is a media center, so I have to use the keyboard/trackpad to do anything to only THEN use the remote.

The divide is gorgeous and well made, it works perfectly when "primed", but with the removal of FrontRow it just doesn't make sense. Please put an app on the app store for front row, please!

Great design, little capability (on OS X Lion)

    • Written by from Cianjur

Great design. It's IR but worked very well from any direction to the receiver. It's about 5 meters on maximum distance from the receiver.

The function of this remote on OSX Lion are for controlling Quicktime, iTunes, and Keynote or PowerPoint presentations. They are turning up and turning down the volume, getting to the next or prev song, getting to the next or prev slide, play or pause the song or movie, play a slideshow (stopping a slideshow isn't supported), fast forwarding or rewinding the music and the video.

You're cool when you're presenting a slideshow using this device. That's the most great feature of this device.

    Works quickly and works well!

    • Written by from New haven

I bought it as an impromptu purchase right before I gave a Keynote presentation. Right out of the box, it immediately somehow "recognized" my macbook and my macbook only (other people in the room had macs and I still can't quite figure out how it knew to direct itself to mine) and I was able to use it seamlessly with my presentation. The only thing that might be handy is a laser pointer at the end so that I don't also have to carry a pointer. But very happy with this sleek littile thing.

    Don't Buy for Lion

    • Written by from Hickory

This remote and the old remotes worked great with Front Row. In Lion there is no Front Row. Until Front Row returns this is really not a good purchase.

This remote has limited functionality with iTunes. Just not worth the money.

    Why no mute button?

    • Written by from Seattle

I mean really. I know you like to have them look all spacey and minimalist, but seriously, a mute button is super helpful in a remote control. Just double it up with the menu button, make it a single tap and menu a double tap. Come on.

So small - lost it the first week and had to spend $20 for another

    • Written by from Gorham

I suppose it's a good thing that this remote is small. The first thing I said when I opened the box was," wow this remote is really small - we'll have to make sure we keep it somewhere safe." One week later, with two teenage boys in the house, we cannot find the remote anywhere. Looked under sofa and sofa cushions. Cannot find it! We got along for a while using the iphone remote app, but we had to reset the apple airport and it caused the apple tv to no longer work - apple tv needs to be set up again and you cannot do that with the iphone remote app - has to be done with the apple remote. What were the designers thinking when they designed it so small! It should have come with a built-on honing device.

    Used to be great

I loved this little remote it was awesome now, since the upgrade to Lion it doesn't work anymore. Apple where is Front Row it was the best app if your computer is your entertainment system.

    Best. Remote. Ever.

This is AWESOME! I took it out of the box and said, "Wow, its so light! And thin!"
This could easily be the next iPod shuffle model.

I'm sure it will be of use to someone....

    • Written by from Brisbane

Like others here, I thought this was wonderful! I could control my videos/music/podcasts while on my x-trainer across the room, or just relaxing on the lounge, but since upgrading to Lion it is useless to me. I can either exercise to the same song or podcast over and over or control volume - big whoop! I'm sure it is of use in Keynote (from what I've read) and Apple TV, but for those of us who don't want/have Apple TV, this has created a HUGE hole in my life.

    Flawless as Usual

    • Written by from Pace

When buying anything Apple you don't need to worry a lot about reading the manual because the stuff works right out of the box. Aside from the lack of functionality regarding the menu button, the remote works perfectly and looks great. Keep em coming Apple.
