Great!

Just works since the day I took it out of the box. No reboots, no slow service. The device is transparent - exactly what you want from a wireless netwroking device. Delivers great reception throughout the house. I keep this in a enclosed bookshelf, on top of my DVR (not the best location), and it just plugs away. No overheating, no worries. Highly recommended.

This is the best wireless router that I have found on the market and have used. I have never had to reset this
, never had any kick offs like with other routers. I have it in my basements, in my office. My wife works upstairs
. She has a mac book pro and I have the 24 IMac, waiting for my new 27 coming today. I have my work PC set up along with a wireless printer and a shared printer as well.161 of 176 people found this useful

GREAT ROUTER!
Written by TB from Tomball

I have used this router for 8 months. Great replacement coming from linksys routers. Setup was a bit lengthy but after the setup the router hasn't been off since. Airport Extreme truly sets a precedent when coming to consumer routers.

Xbox live and the xbox 360 wireless adapter are not compatible with the airport extreme right now but may become compatible later on. Other than that the airport extreme works great and it is compatible with the PS3 and Wii

Great, great product
Written by JC from Portsmouth
31-Oct-2009
I've a mixed network, imac, macbook pro, pc (XP), laptop pc (XP), couple of iphones, wii, 3 printers and a scanner. Was running a netgear router with a 4 port linksys print server. Special drivers, mixed static and dynamic addressing, frequent crashes, slow internet due to confusion at the firewall, inconsistent printing. My 14 year old became an expert at resetting the boxes to get back on line.
Bought the airport extreme. powered up, it "just worked", and fast. Automatically recognized all products, configured in less than 10 minutes, and it all works great. Plugged a seven port USB expander into the airport usb port and connected all the printers and an external HD. It took a short while to realize that the trick to configuration was to delete all the printers active on all the machines then just let the hardware do it's thing. All devices were correctly recognized and configured.
Only gripe is that getting Bonjour installed on the windows machines too some retries, and this should be done first to ensure that internet access is available for the down loads (I could never get the bonjour stuff loaded from the disk provided by apple, shame on you guys). Once done, configuring the PCs were as easy as the macs.
Expensive box, but given the behavior of the USB port and the ability to connect so many devices via that route, this is a great product worth the price (a separate box to add multiple USB devices to connect to a more conventional router will add $100).
NB Apple: PCs are out there, and often mixed with Macs. Make the PC install work as well at the install on native Apple products and you'll have a winner with broad appeal.48 of 51 people found this useful

simplicity without sacrifice
Written by MM

After moving from PC to MAC, and seeing the benefits of how much more user friendly the Mac OS is compared to anything else available, it's no surprise that their hardware is equally as impressive. The automated installation walked me through the entire process of setting up my home network, and not just a simple one, but with multiple hard-drives, Time-Machines, printer, Sonos music system and other peripherals. It detected all attached devices, and set itself up to allow access to all. My Macbook and Mac-Mini were recognized, and within minutes i was able to move files from one machine to another, to use my iPhone to control Sonos, and to set up a secure network in less time than it took me to read the installation instructions for my previous Routers. I've read the problems associate with the dedicated "time-capsules" and i can only say that my base-station with attached HD's set up as time-capsules and extra-storage has proven to be another example of why Apple is the one to beat.

The AirPort Extreme has been the easiest router I have every set up. Being used on a pc w/xp home (soon to be a Mac), under 5min. I have used only NetGear brand Routers in the past. It so clean and sleek looking. Very easy to change the settings or set up your network. AirPort Extreme is being used in a home with two pc's, ps3, xbox360, two apple TVs, and a iPhone 3G.

wonderful piece of hardware and software from apple! worked right out of the box, with just the right time taken to setup my 1 wired computer and 3 wireless laptops, some running XP some - Vista. Comment: if you are replacing your older wireless router with the new one, do not forget to restart (turn off then on) your cable modem after switching your wireless routers. this step was not in the manual.
Printer discovery via Bonjour worked like a charm from all machines. Previously, i tried using iomega ix2-200 NAS with print server functionality - it was asking me to reinstall printer driver every time i tried to print from a different pc. sent it back. AirPort prints from all pc's without a glitch.
did not try attaching my external usb drive yet - waiting for the usb hub to come in the mail.
download speed with this apple's 801/n is much faster than what i had before with my netgear 801/g. love the product! will buy more apple's going forward.33 of 37 people found this useful

I've be using this for about 4 months now and have been extremely satisfied. I'm using it along with an Airport Express. I put the Express at the other end of my home and between the two I have I have a very very good signal throughout. At first I had to restart it a couple times, but after the latest software update I've had no restarts.

Best Router I have used
Written by GG from Selinsgrove
5-Nov-2009
I have used the Linksys "B" then the "G" then the "N" versions over the years which were good for wired Ethernet but wireless signals were week in my house not that far from the router; especially with iPhone and iTouch type devices. The Airport Extreme provides full wireless signal strength all over my house to all devices (including iPhone and iTouch).
The main reason I got this is the new "wake from network" available with Snow Leopard for my Macs in my house (Airport Extreme is required for this). So even if my other Macs in the house are "asleep" I can "wake them up" and access them from any other Mac in the house. This makes it worth every penny to me to manage multiple Macs on my network!25 of 26 people found this useful

A good investment

I had purchased a Belkin N+ wireless router 6 weeks ago and have had problems ever since. Spent a lot of time on the phone, and on hold, with their tech support, and it would work for a few days before it would stop working again. In the end, I believe the Belkin was not compatible with my ISP provider - Comcast. Purchased this router, had my MacBook Pro, a PC upstairs over the garage, and my iphone all connected and working within minutes. I should have known - stuff from Apple just WORKS. I also love how easy it is for someone visiting to be able to connect as a guest so they can use the internet without having access to your home network.

A huge improvement over last router

Bought the airport to replace a newish Linksys WRT110 which would always disconnect every computer everytime a new client connected to the wireless. Hooked up the Airport, fired up Airport Utility, and was setup in under 5 minutes. Been using it for over 2 weeks now with no hiccups in service of any sort. Easy to configure, and love the disk sharing as well.

Great Upgrade!!
Written by DM from Toronto
6-Nov-2009
My refurbished AEBS arrived today and just finished setting it up and posting this review using the new network. All I have to say is what a HUGE speed difference being able to access the 802.11n network!! Load times just feel so much snappier. The router is a bit on the pricey side, but picking it up refurbished really softened the blow on the wallet and the price was truly comparable to other routers out there.
Despite what some negative reviews state, this router works just fine on mixed platform (Win/Mac) environments. When setting up on a windows machine, make sure you install the airport utility software. Getting onto the network is the same as before. Simply double click on the wireless icon in system tray and find the network and enter the password.
I definitely recommend this product. Take a look in the refurbished section first though. Happy Networking!24 of 27 people found this useful

The Ease of Apple
Written by MC from Pontiac
30-Oct-2009
I just recently purchased the Airport Extreme to work with my new 64GB iPod Touch and new Quad-core iMac (which I am patiently waiting for) and I am currently running with my Dell PC. The setup was very easy (unlike my previous D-Link router, which my iPod touch would not connect to) and the Airport Extreme works like a charm. All I had to do was install the software CD, plug in a few cords and follow the simple onscreen instructions (a few clicks of the mouse) and my new network was all set up. Thanks Apple.

The new model is a wonderful piece of hardware. I've had Netgear and Linksys routers before. Nothing compares to this Airport. The Airport Extreme is 10 times better than the any other router. It works really well with my mac, my brother's vista pc, and my windows xp pc plus my xbox 360. Definitely recommend it to everyone!!

i have my airport connected to an external hard drive and two printers, and it could not have been easier to set them up. i am glad that i have purchased this unit with my mbp. its also very compatible with pcs; i have all my pcs connected to the base, and they all print wirelessly now. i just had to install the program that came with the cd. so far i have two pcs, one mbp, one hard drive and two printers connected to the airport, and they are all working flawlessly. i simply could not have asked for more. exactly what i wanted.

Nice
Written by MK from Youngstown

I am going to be brutally honest, this router is awesome, BUT, it may be completely unnecessary for some. I have a 15Mbps down internet connection and was using it via an Airport Express and my macbook for about 2 months and got awesome speeds. i decided to get the extreme base station to incorporate some desktop machines me and my roomate have into out network. The switch was a snap and couldnt be easier. However, ive notice significant speed loss in my internet connection. Im not sure if maybe it is something that is related to firmware or what but there was a large loss of download speed when using the extreme compared to the express. This of course was all with the exact same configuration for both base stations. I am still working on trying to figure out where i am losing this speed.
Overall the extreme base station does all it says it is going to do. Gives your decent speed with good range and enough settings to mess around with to get it right to your liking. However, if your just looking for a solid wireless network only, i would recommend the express base station to save yourself 100 bucks. I still have hope that i will see my "extreme" speeds soon with enough fiddling of settings.
PS. I noticed some poor NAT port forwarding with the extreme, but it may just be the network i have it running. All in all, it works and makes me happy looking at it =)21 of 25 people found this useful
